So far, the top8 players of the current rankings form the 8 players that would play in LA :

Clijsters
Venus
Lindsay
Amelie in one group

Justine
Serena
Jennifer
Chanda in one group

In my opinion, with Vera at 1.300 points and Amelie at 1.600, not much will change either due to the US Open or the indoor season.

Now, given the fact that Daniela is in a slump, we had the solid comeback of Sugiyama and Martinez as top16 players, the exploding Russian armada of Zvonareva and Petrova.

Given the fact that we have 5 American girls against 2 Belgians and 1 French, I think we see the best of the best there. But it makes me wonder if the mentioned players of Zvonareva or Petrova (who is hot indoors) who will miss the Chase due to the change of the format would not deserve the spotlight at the season end.

Interestingly enough I think that everybody would have thought of Monica instead of Chanda, at the beginning of the season, instead of Jennifer who everybody shouted at after the Australian. Now we see that the season heads to its final GS climax and the race -apart from injuries in the final stage of the season- is over !

why so sure Serena is gonna play?...

but kinda disappointed with the new format,
yes, understandable, but no, not happy with it..
yes it's fun to see top players play each other,
and it'll be more marketable that way,
but i still like single elimination...oh well.....
tennis isnt as popular as it was in the days
of Martina era anyways, so what do i care...:(

Don´t know WHICH Martina you mean but even for Navratilova this change is bad if she remains 5th in the doubles race this year, she won´t play in spite of the best year of her comeback to the tour.

Hopefully, the indoor season will do her and Sveta some good !

The round robin is great for tennis fans, though. It means more matches with higher ranked players. Conceivably, we could see two of the same players play against each twice or three times.

oh I hope Clijsters and Lindsay aren't in the same group:sad: . They are the two best indoor players on tour.

I also like the idea of the Round Robin but for players who in recent years tried desperately to qualify for NY, Munich or LA last year, this year offers no chance for being part of the "big money event" called "season end"

Some players like Martinez or Coetzer were part of it in the past, others like Petrova or Zvonareva would have earned their spot just due to Paris or Farina-Elia due to Wimbledon. Also Meghann had a solid comeback after a strange year.

I support the Round Robin but it must be in players´ heads that they missed a chance to present themselves in the final stage of a season and earn some Christmas money :)
