What a big win for her. We all know how psyched out Russians get about playing countrywomen, so this is a great victory! Go Maria!

I'm glad she's building on the success at Wimbledon after a pretty shaky start this first half of the year

Maria meeting Clijsters will be a very valuable experience for Maria. I don't expect her to win but she needs to start playing with top players and some day sooner or later, she would be able to play at the same level with them. :)

Try your best in 3th rd as much as you can. I am finally able to see how she fares with Clijsters. :)

Kim is a bit tired now playing straight tourneys, so Maria has a very strong chance to pull an upset in this match.

Shrapnel knock the Blonde Bomber out???

Nah.

Even if Clijsters is a bit weary... it's a straight set loss for Shrapnel.

Sharky and her agent figured out how to benefit from the excellent coaching skills of the LA area's Robert Lansdorp. Spend enough time with him! For example, during July she played WTT for nearby Newport Beach, not, duh, Springfield (Missouri). See, the Contessa's agent is a hockey specialist who doesn't know jack about tennis (but fired her touring coach, Sviotaslav Mirza, who had merely guided the bitch from around #50 to #13 in '02; because her new boyfriend was supposedly qualified, and that didn't cost $). So now, guess what, Mr. Gandler and Ms. Myskina: Lansdorp has a hot young player who's going to make him (as well as herself) rich (and famous @ least to us 0.000001% tennistards :p). So he doesn't need a player who's reached her upper limit! And Nadya, stay healthy and make your coach, "Flying Dutchman" Glen Schapp, proud. (Just don't beat up on Baby Blue Eyes)!

Well done Maria! :bounce:

I thought the Sharapova - Petrova match would take place on wednseday. :o But I was pleasantly surprised to come to WTA World this morning and see that Maria won.

I predicted Masha to beat Nadia in 3 sets and she did. :)

Sharky, you thanked Nadia for giving Maria a "good fight". ;) But I think Nadia is probably furious that she lost to Maria! :fiery:

JR, Anastasia Myskina works with Robert Lansdorp when she trains in America. And Maria splits her free time training with Lansdorp in Los Angeles and at Bollettieri's in Bradenton.

Does this tell us more about Sharapova or Petrova?

Sharapova, definitely. It kind of confirms my suspicion that (hype notwithstanding) Maria is the only one out of all these Russians with the potential to be a Slam winner and #1. The others are good, but not great. :)
