View Full Version : Is Justine going to replace Hingis as the player that fans most root against?

I think so. With her defeats and cocky statements and her past actions on the court. I think Justine is going to replace Hingis as the most disliked player, that tennis fans want to see lose a match.

note: note a player that is disliked has to be a great player. So this is not taking anything away at all from their tennis skills. Nor does all the below fanbases wish to see her lose.

It just seems that Justine has pissed off Kim fans, Lindsay fans and of course William fans. This total= a HUGE fanbase of people.

Sorry to say this but Martina wasn't one. The W sistaz are actually the ones fans most eagerly root against.

EVIL WOMAN
Electric Light Orchestra

You made a fool of me
But them broken dreams have got to end
Hey woman you got the blues
Cause you ain't got no one else to use
There's an open road that leads no where
So just make some miles between here and there
There's a hole in my head where the rain comes in
You took my body and played to win
Ha, ha woman, it's a crying shame
But you ain't got nobody else to blame

Evil woman, evil woman
Evil woman, evil woman

Rolled in from another town
Hit some gold, too hot to settle down
But a fool and his money soon go separate ways
And you found a fool lyin' in a daze
Ha ha woman
What you gonna do
You destroyed all the virtues that the Lord gave you
It's so good that you're feelin' pain
But you better get your face board the very next train

Evil woman how you done me wrong
But now you're to wail a different song
Ha, ha funny how you broke me up
You made the wine now you drink a cup
I come runnin' every time you cried
I thoughjt I saw love smilin' in your eyes
Ha, ha very nice to know
That you ain't got no place left to go

lol, even at the US open, people sometimes rooted against american players playing Hingis  When Hingis would say something, it would be attributed to her 'confidence' while if Venus said anything similar it came out as 'arrogance' in the press...
It made some sense at the time though, with her results Hingis clearly seemed as 'the chosen one' on a trajectory to greatness whereas Venus was this new kid with a loudmouth father, no results in juniors and a story about how she and her sister were going to determine the winner of all the slams in a few years :o

Justine needs to win a whole lot more before she can be considered in the same league for anything as Hingis.

i think its more likely for Justine's words to be compared to Tauziat.........hehe lol:D:D:D GO JUSTINE!!! but then again people miss Martina Hingis so much these days, mentioning her name wouldn't hurt;)

please... Hingis was called arrogant all the time, as well as some less flattering things  Not that it wasn't deserved, but no one was sugarcoating her statements and calling them 'confidence'

I doubt it. Henin is winning and now people are hating.

People always hate on those on top. However, Henin is a KNOWN liar. That's a strike.

Henin may not be popular on this board, but something tells me she's not crying in her waffles every morning over that.

The general public rooted against Hingis-I haven't seen signs of that yet with Henin.

I love Justine. I find her actions kind of funny.
She so wants to win at all costs; and doesn't give
a flying back hand f*ck what others think. Good for
her. In contrast to the other great 1 handed backhand
dynamo Amelie Mauresmo who's just too damn nice
to win in big events and to my disappointment is
really a big sissy. :lbf

If only there was another 1 handed backhand that
is a bit of both Amelie and Justine in the mental
toughness department and graciousness. :)

The more people hate Justine; the more I like her.
I don't think she'll be the favorite to bash against.
It looks to me of her being the player other players
don't like playing. lol.

Everyone is sweeped up by the media, that's it. All these quotes..I bet the media just picks some quotes out, change them a bit and face those quotes with words of another player with another opinion -> FIGHT

Generally, unbiased fans will cheer for the underdog in any given match. Justine can no longer be seen as the underdog (unless playing a Williams) and will therefore get some people cheering against her!

Simple really.

I don't think you can compare what Justine has said to what Hingis has said in the past.... last time I checked she didn't call anyone half man, 2 headed monster or referred to champions as too old..

tennisjam
Aug 6th, 2003, 09:46 AM
Hingis called someone a "2 headed monster"
who and when...?

...and Martina was such a "controvertial" player, the most "hated" and appreciated at the same time...

...still she wasn't the one that fans rooted the most against...but those who did were doing it in a "loud" way because Martina herself wasn't keeping her mouth shut...

...and for Justine, it depends how she will continue to behave....but her personality is rather different so I don't think she will get the same kind of response...

Justine won't be replacing Hingis as the player that fans most root against. Atleast, not until Venus and Serena continue to play. They don't even get crowd support in their own country.

Not true, I've been IN crowds that have cheered for Venus, although I must admit I'm shocked to hear Dawn Marie disagree with you and label Hingis the person fans most root against ;)

Have you seen San Diego final?! There was standing ovations for both players, and some "C'mon Justine" from the crowd and that's all after RG semi. So I hope it won't happen in tha future either!

Martina Hingis most disliked??? Maybe in America where she was beating the crap out of all the "American favorites" America is so into it's self with it's "American players" that it shoves and credits only the American players down peoples throats. The American media seem to think that Americans are the only ones that make up the Tennis tour. I'm sure it was hard for the media to have to show nothing but matches with foreign players at the last finals. I'm sure it especially bugged Pam Shrivers who seems to think there is nothing but Williams and American players that exist. I am sure that all thoese who once bashed Martina would love to see her come back so they could once more appreciate GREAT tennis.
By the way I am American but sometimes it embarreses me. The media had there unjustified field day bashing Martina. By the way. Martina did not lie on her comments about "half man and old" Not diplomatic but honest statements.

Martina actually had so many fans, people rooted for her all the time.
If you want a correct question, it should be: will Justine replace the Williams sisters as most boo'd against players?
And my answer would be no.

Yeah maybe soon really stupid fans but Serena and Venus never said anything like Martina. My sister hated Martina, I asked why it was because she acts so stuck up and has a big forehead. Oh dear god.

I don't even know how Serena fans make fun of Martina's forehead, because Serena's forehead is even more jaw-droppingly enormous.

The people in the stands held up Martina banners. :D

I don't think Justine cares what some people on a messageboard think.
The truth is: she gets cheered on SOOO much at tournaments.
And the Williams sisters get boo'd at in their own country!

Dawn, make up your mind, girl.

Either,
Martina was the player most people rooted against. In that case, your threads about about Venus receiving more boos don't make sense.

Either,
Venus is the player most people cheer against. Then this thread doesn't make sense.

Or,
both Venus and Martina are cheered against. Then your whining about 'double standards' doesn't make sense since they're both treated the same way.

Either way, you're not making any sense!

not a justine fan, but view people who root against other individuals (not teams) as being insecure about their own favourites ability to beat them. that's not a slur against dawn, just a general principle i have.

i don't like justine, so i just pay as little attention to her as possible. i guess i understand why people feel that way though
