What are those 5 people doing sitting there??? It's a bad angle for watching a tennis match, surely they could have sit somewhere else as the stadium is empty.

If you look carefully, you'll see that many of the people near the camera are sitting in the shade. The very top row on the south side of the court got a little shade from the media boxes. I sat right below the box from which the Tennis Channel was doing their broadcast for a while. I could hear what the announcers were saying.

One idiot fan was standing behind me even closer to the Tennis Channel broadcasters, and his cell phone kept going off. He would answer it, talk for a while loudly! Fans were shushing him. Finally an usher told him to get out of the stadium if he wanted to use his phone.

Attendance was sparce today. Part of it is that it's simply too hot to sit still for long periods of time outside in Los Angeles. Hopefully they're getting better attendance for the evening sessions. The upside of all this is that I could sit anywhere I wanted in the stadium (or the outside courts). You gotta like that.

In contrast to the picture posted at the beginning of this thread, I understand that 85,000 people attended the World Championships of Surfing in Huntington Beach last weekend!

The tennis stadium could really use a partial roof over it to cast shade into the seats. That might sound far fetched, but there's a soccer stadium adjacent to the tennis stadium that has exactly that - big overhangs to cast shade into the upper bleachers. Why didn't they to it for the tennis stadium too?

It's time to move this event. The 5th biggest event of the year is held in LA now, and IT has attendance problems. Given that every year after this week players pack up and go to Toronto/Montreal, then New Have the next week, then New York the week after, it would be easy to move this event North and East. Chicago hasn't had a tournament in years, nor has anyplace within a few hundred miles of it.

I would have no problems if they moved this tournament to Ohio.

Awww... man, I wish I could go watch the games!
My office is 15mins away from the place!!
Well, first of all, location is bad... Carson is like... way south of where everybody in LA is!!
Westwood (UCLA) is a good location to bring lots of people... but Carson...
Manhattan Beach... is a bit isolated from LA too...but still really a cool place to go out... so people would come...

and, more than the location, they need to change the advertising agency!!! Including the Season-ending tourney, I rarely heard about the tournament in town!!

yea, last weekend, there were so many events going on around here...
Surfing US Open, Film Festival at Hermosa... another surfing tourney and events at Redondo Beach...

It's a great facility tho...
Man, I'll go play after the tourney is done...

Ha-ha you are really lucky ones there with your sunny weather. Look what kind of conditions we got here in Finland at Nordic Light Open:
