View Full Version : Bumping Old Threads

Can we put a lock on old threads or something??

I_like_tennis is bumping threads up from over a year ago, and you can tell they are all to cause problems. He brings up things like Hingis is coming back, and everyone doesn't realize it was from last year, and they get all upset when they realize it's not true.

It just causes problems.

And, will this poster ever be banned completely?? He only causes problems everywhere he goes.

I totally agree with Venus_Forever :) It does cause problems and he should banned ;)

I have locked a bunch of the threads in question, and am happy to lock others, but I can't check the dates on every post in every thread I read - you know the drill :)

If I see any, I'll report. ;)

Thanks. :D

You can tell old threads cos when you put your cursor on the title, you don't get the first line of the thread like you do with recent ones, you just get a URL. :) It was annoying though.

Suggestion: recruit a panel of "volunteers" to sift the old threads for opinions, funny stories, and other stuff deemed worth "keeping active" (in "merged threads by topic") and dump the rest (to an archive the board can use in selling ads, etc., but are otherwise either locked or hidden). Especially live score threads, that get hundreds of posts, then are "rendered obsolete" in ones discussing results of the matches.

I agree...but I think their should be a limit. I mean, some older threads are still relevant. Would we get in trouble for bumping those threads?

Jason, we basically "agree in principle". Meaning that there are posts (and direct reactions to them, to give a full picture) that are. Jen vs BJK @ the '02 Fed Cup must have produced many, for example. That's why I suggested "harvesting" these, and combining them into "vintage threads" by topic. Re. the hundreds of posts in a live scores thread, other threads kinda cover the "meaning of the match", who played how, etc. Certainly a record of the # of posts via forum page "snapshots" (same as "Select All" in a regular browser window), backed up by "proof" on zip drives for skeptical possible advertisers, makes sense. As does freeing up server capacity. On the last note, "companion suggestion": given legal stuff having been "handled", player forum mods ought to be asked to choose pics to keep, and have the rest deleted to free some up. (Obviously, "newsworthy" photos, like about Dani's weight, are a "GM issue", not one for the diehard fans running a players forum).

Something definitely has to be done still.

what the hell is so bad about it? someone brought up a loeffler-caro thread today and i thought it was interesting. you need to get lives if you are going to be concerned with little things like this.

There is nothing wrong with it, until certain posters bump up threads that cause trouble.

Ex- a thread was bumped up by this very poster about Hingis returning to Toronto next week, except, it was from lat year.

Of course, people didn't read any of it, and they thought it was from this year, got their hopes up, and they got angry.

It's funny to you because you are not a fan.

If this was a thread about Natasha Zvereva coming back next week in Toronto, and you read it, I guarantee you would be one of the first to complain.

I have no problem with "old" threads but like Venus forever stated, it is only done to steer up trouble. I even brought back old threads to show or to restate something and to show where I stand but to make it a constant thing just for the sake of it is annoying and pointless.

No I don't think I'd complain about that..I might not think its funny but I wouldnt go whine about it as if I have nothing better to do with my time. Gee its funny, your posts in here are the first ones I've seen that have more substance than just a players name and a bouncy or sad face

your only saying that now to defend your notion. If a real circumstance like this did happen, and you were there to see it, then you probably would retaliate.
