Yes I use them when playing games too. Also I run FLT with Karol and we have a thread of players pictures. Just let me know if I have to remove them :)

My understanding is, after reading the announcement, that you can post any pictures you like, unless the owners of the website the pictures are from send Poe an email threatening to sue his ass if people post their pictures here*. Hope that clarifies things for everyone. :)

* which basically means ***************** and tennisinfo.com.

As I tried to explain in the other thread here (http://www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=81052), it's not the pics themselves necessarily, it's that they "jump out @ you" (and @ the snoopy fotog's who copyrighted them, etc.)

Legally if the photographers do not say anything and they know it's going on, then the images become public domain which means the person who took the images loses all copyrights.

Also posting those images steals bandwidth. If they are displayed enough, the original website could crash or be forced to pay huge hosting bills of people who are displaying images without permission.

Well, you can look at it the way willow put it except that if we get one more email about copyright violation we're going to disable the IMG tag for sure and this is a risk when you pull images from another website and post them here. Especially from sites of specific photographers. The major sites like yahoo and espn dont usually concern themselves with message boards. Anyway we may still disable the tag rather than wait for it to happen again.

That is completely false. You dont lose all the rights to your property just because you dont prosecute every person who steals it.

If it is completely false then why did Jeff from ************ who was going to sue this site tell me that?

Also who replaced "************" with "***********" above? How about replacing some of Glen's garbage with "*********".

Jeff told me in a "private email" that he was going to lose his rights to his images if he did not sue this website. That is why I posted that email and also because somebody was saying it was "completely false" which it is not.

It is completely false that you will lose your copyright if you dont sue everyone who steals your images. Argue with me all you want, it wont change that fact.

I'm just saying what Jeff told me. I don't care if it is "false" or not. They're not my images not my bandwidth that are being stolen...

Don't lock this thread. It's kind of funny, ok?

It would rather defeat the object of copyright law if you lost your ownership of copyright simply because it had been infringed. However, as I've said before, I don't quite see how posting images using the [img] tags constitutes copyright infringement, because you're not actually copying anything. Some people here copy-paste entire articles from websites without getting into trouble - on other boards I visit you are absolutely NOT allowed to do that (you can only post a link), but posting pics is perfectly acceptable.

I'm also slightly  why you've edited the name of a website, even though it's the same one named in the Announcement!

Sorry if I was rather flippant about the situation earlier. :)

Willow, I still think posting a pic as an attachment (requiring an, OMG, extra click for a member to view it) avoids the "red flag" aspect of photo's (even if legally it might make no difference). BTW, Poe, wanna see where you're still "exposed" in this area? Go check the player forums; especially the picture threads in them!

Well we care. We don't want you spreading false or vicious rumours around here without any understanding of the law. If Jeff wishes to reveal the nature of his private conversations with you, I'm sure he'd be more than happy to post them for himself on here.

While we're on the subject, you're still using my splash page despite promising to delete it months ago. Could you please remove it now as promised?

Willow, I just assumed the site is named in the announcement so that people know which sites don't want us using their images, and they're blocked in the rest of the posts so it's harder for people to post images or other content from those sites (ok, THAT site ;) ).

anton

williw, they did not edit the name of that website, if you try to type ************ in, it gets replaced with ********* automatically. everybody already knows their dot com so I'm not sure what the point of this is...

Also if you have something to say to me about LTMN.com email it to me at anton@ltmn.com or it will be ignored. Thanks.

Have a nice day. :wavey:

And what if you post the link to a picture? Will that count as posting the picture or posting an attachment? Just wondering, cos there's no way I'm gonna save all the pics I wanna post to my comp :p

Oh and most pics I post are not tennis pics, so I suppose the chance you get into trouble with that is fairly small?

Well griffins explanation makes sense: that URL is automatically blocked to stop you putting it between the tags. Of course, it also means you can't post a link to their site...but that's [i]their loss, isn't it?

Of course, it also means you can't post a link to their site...but that's [i]their loss, isn't it? I assume all the *** stuff is about the site of whoever was not only lecturing the members of this board about copyright law, but urging ppl here not to support boards (meaning this one) that violate it, blah (but use theirs instead). And I recall that their board was "dead", but the photos-for-sale part of the site quite prominent. So indeed blocking their URL may be their loss. (BTW: I wonder if THEY pay 5 cents in royalties to the players whose images they're selling)?

Is all this ************ about (edit: please don't do that :D)?

hehe  (Forbidden fruit... :o)

What I don't get is this: if other sites want to restrict access to "their" pics, why don't they make their site only accessible to members?
