Worst

Definately Lindsay Davenport because she gets down on herself soo fast. I mean she missed 2 shots and shes pouting with her head down and throwing her record.

Next is Jelena Dokic, she looks like a lost soul. I mean she smacks 3 winners and then dumps 4 balls in the net. She looks lost on court like she doesn't know what to do.

Justine Henin- after the French shes definately has my worst attitude on court for cheating

Serena- Shes tooo emotional, i mean that was rude when she said c'mon at Els Callens Double Fault.

No doubt Venus, I mean you never see her throw her racquet down or pout. You never know if shes winning or losing. She has a determined face on always. That intimidates most players

Yeah i agree i think Venus has the best attitude along maybe with Kim who is very fair on court.

Serena some times get on nerves when she she just saids "come on" at the wrong times. ie US Open last year playing Bartoli (i think that how you spell it) she was 51 50 something like that Serena gets a let cord the ball dribles over the net so the kid cant get it and Serena shout "COME ON".
for me I dislike that more then swearing on court and throwing your rackett

Justine has the best attitude on court by far. She is very emotional but does not get down on herself, and is one of the few players who is able to balance this medium. See her record in three set matches this year for proof of how great her attitude is.

Serena played Bartoli in Miami

Venus and Monica are probably the best. Kim is right up there as well.

The worst?

Jennifer, when she swears. Serena, when she gets overly emotional.

Arantxa is really very good, so is Mandy. Mandy has been known to argue call or two, though. But they are really good at staying focused. Also, Monica is very good at it too.

Serena does get a little obnoxious (vs. Loit at the Australian Open, or against Callens at Wimbledon) but by 'worst attitude' I think of someone getting down on themselves and in that case, definitely Davenport! It's very disconcerting when she starts slumping her shoulders

depending what you mean by worst and best attitude.

As for having the worst attitude, I would definately say Lindsay. She gets so down on herself, and in big matches, if she misses on deuce, or 30-30 at an important point, she loses the game and the match because of herself, as she just slumps her shoulders and gets down on herself. I just knew it was going to happen at the start of the third set against Venus, this past Wimbledon.

The most unsportsmanlike, however, has to be Justine.

The best sportsmanlike attitude is either Kim or Venus.

But the best mental attitude (except when recently playing Serena) has to be Venus. Man, her on court demeanor, and her mental strength are awsome. If you dont believe me watch the Miami 2001 final, or the US Open 2000 semi.

I think Jennifer and Serena have brilliant fighting spirits out on court and never ever give in, and their attitudes alone have brought them through many tough matches, just by their greater beliefs in themselves, than their opponents.

Does Venus applaud good shots from her opponent or acknowledge them in some other way? I haven't seen that, but I don't follow her so I may have missed it.

I think that is part of good sportsmanship. Seles does that routinely. Kim and Justine do it as well.

I always like that little habit Chris Evert had of saying "Yep" when she saw a winner land. It was her way of acknowledging that the shot was good and had her beat.

She does I have seen her.
She does not clap but she does look and nod her head. But then to be fair very few players hit great shot when they play her as she runs them down.
The one thing with Venus is she wont give a player any thing like if they hit an ace and its called out I have never seen her walk over to the over side or anything like that.

Everything you say is true.

it annoys me though that, when Linzi is "in the zone", she is unflappable(Aussie final 2000). She just keeps her eyes to the ground, doing that walk around the court, swaying her shoulders from side to side rather than slumping them.

I think she needs Robert Vant Hoff's mental influence again.

It was really good until she came back from surgery. Now if she loses a close set, she loses the next one 6-1 or 6-2. She can be up 6-2 4-1 and look like she is losing by that score. Her attitude is just awful now.

She was afraid on the court vs. Serena at Wimbledon. Also players are picking up on her shady tactics during the matches. Venus also intimidates her. She isn't the pillar of mental strength or good attitude.

I would give Chanda the thumbs up for best attitude on the court. You can never tell by looking at her if she is up 6-0 or down 0-6. Worst attitude in my mind goes to Lindsay, Hantuchova and at times Myskina.

Just because you don't agree with a comment it doesn't automatically mean it is idiotic.

For a PROFESSIONAL Lindsay's body language for the great majority of her time on court is disgraceful. What other word is there for it????

Woeful
Unprofessional
Disappointing

They are harsh words but how else do you call it????

There is no excuse for someone of Lindsay experience or maturity to let her body speak so loudly - you never know, if she cut out the negativity out of her mind and body she might just play that much better!

It's obvious you have no idea or inclination about who Lindsay Davenport is as a tennis player. What is disgraceful is that a poster such as yourself can watch what a handful of Lindsay's matches and immediately determine that she is a bad presense on the tennis court?

What you need to do is do some homework and learn a little more about Linsday Davenport the tennis player and person. Perhaps you would not be so harsh about a very classy human being.

Worst: Lindsay (too sulky, your not a teenager any more!)
Jennifer (too fiery sometimes in the past, I think though she is a lot more relaxed now)
Serena (attempts at intimidation during play, stupid twirly thing at the end if she wins but if she loses she barely acknowledges the person who beats her)

Best: Martina H. (wry smiles and grins, little shreiks and squeals, she's so cute!)
Justine (steely attitude, very impressed at her mental resilience)
Kim (very straightforward, means everything, honest, you gotta love her!)

I think Lindsay sets really high standards for herself and when you know you're one hell of a player and miss a shot you really should have made, it's annoying and frustrating. She expects so much of herself (which is normal for a top player like her) that when things dont work out the way she wants, she starts to curse herself and if it were possible she'd slap herself over the head aswell at times ;)

I wouldn't say Kim has the best attitude. When it comes to fairness, yes, but not about mental toughness. I often get the impression that she gives up the game when she's breakpoint down. Once a player gets a break point against Kim, she's almost guaranteed to break. And Kim has problems closing out sets and matches. She fares better when it's on the other player's serve.

Remember the site www.lindsayonline.org???

That was my site and I put my heart and soul into it and have always loved and admired Lindsay - because I remain objective doesn't mean I don't know what I am talking about.

If it wasn't for a lack of money to run the site I would still be at it.

Don't tell me I don't know what I am talking about.

I look forward to the Lindsay matches that I will watch in the future where she will hold her shoulder and chin up and play like the competitor I know she can be - right now she isn't doing that and it is disappointing and at times her body language IS disgraceful! Sorry you can't see beyond the silver lining but don't you dare mock me for doing so!

Jen > Needs to calm down, and know balls can land out
Serena > Sometimes it effects her game like in Rome this year. She needs to realise she cant play every shot perfect
Elena D> Gets so nervous, and can not believe she can win (like last week would be a good example)
Dokic> same as Serena, but the consequences are far worse

BEST

Kim> Always seems to have fun
Justine > Professional (most of the time)
Ai Sugiyama > I love watching her play tennis, she never gets mad with herself.

ITA!
That's the one thing that frustrates me so much about Davenport.
She way to egar to concede defeat. She could've beat Kim last week but her crappy attitude stopped from doing it. I was yelling at the tv for her to just retire, let someone who wants to be out there play!
I'm not surprised she's contemplating calling it a career and if this is the way she'll continue to play I say go for it! Why do something if you're not going to even try and fake giving it some effort.

Now Venus, she is the most difficult face to read and gives away little to nothing! Bet she'd be a great poker player! Her attitude and demeanor are perfect for tennis! She shows you some emotion but not too much. She doesn't get extremely happy or down on herself. She stays even kilter and it carries her through the match. I love the way she seems to laugh off mistakes or you see her hand jesture as just brushing the error off. She's my girl!
