Advances to the 2nd RD of LA.

Aug 4th, 2003, 10:20 PM
Who will she play now? I know that if she wins her 2nd round match, she is likely to play Clijsters in the third.

Aug 4th, 2003, 10:27 PM
She now faces #14 seed Nadia Petrova

Aug 4th, 2003, 10:33 PM
Congrats Sharapova!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was somewhat surprised with the ease Masha beat Srebotnik. I was not expecting Maria to win 6-3 6-1. But she dropped the Russian hammer on Katerina! ;)

Aug 4th, 2003, 11:05 PM
Hope she beats Petrova

Aug 4th, 2003, 11:06 PM
Me too.......

Aug 4th, 2003, 11:07 PM
somebody stuff something in screamer's trap please  Hopefully Kim will give her a tennis lesson :D

Aug 4th, 2003, 11:11 PM
I think Kim would beat her now, but Sharapova has a lot of potential. Her grunts don't bother me ;)

What's with you, TF? In 2 different threads your moaning about Maria's grunting.

Aug 4th, 2003, 11:29 PM
Congrats to Maria! I'd like to see her scream all the way to the final! That would inject some much needed excitement in women's tennis!! "Teenage Screamer Takes LA Title!"

I think that Maria defnitely has the game and concentration to take out Petrova, who seems to be playing very inconsistent. It'd give Maria a huge confidence boost to beat Nadia. And playing Kim would be good for her. She probably won't beat Kim, but it'll give her a good idea what a top play is like and what she needs to do to improve her own game. Each of those experiences are very valuable to "up and coming" players. You learn much more from defeat than from victory. And why not learn from being defeated by one of the best out there?!?!

COME ON MARIA!!!! Keep the screaming up! I love it!!!! :bounce:

i think she is nice in interviews but her grunts are annoying to me.

Aug 5th, 2003, 03:15 AM

anyone have videos of some game of maria?

Aug 5th, 2003, 03:20 AM
My Maria predictions:

She finishes 2003 top thirty (a stretch, but still)

She finishes 2004 top ten, winning the year ending championships

She wins a slam in 2005

She wins the grand slam in 2008, and ends up going down in the history books as the best women's tennis player ever:p .

Yes, I am a completely obsessed Maria fan, but don't neg rep me:sad: . I am just having some fun.

Aug 5th, 2003, 04:39 AM

Well done Maria!

the WTA is definitely promoting Maria as the next big thing now it seems that Anna might not come back

Aug 5th, 2003, 03:32 PM
I don't think Sharapova is a draw. She wasn't in World Team Tennis.
In today's L.A. Times, Lisa Dillman said 150 people were in a 8,000 seat stadium yesterday.
Sharapova: "Just hope more people come out in future days."

Aug 5th, 2003, 03:36 PM
Hopefully it will be cracker against Nadia. At her best Nadia is among the best 10 players IMO.

Aug 5th, 2003, 03:42 PM
if Sharapova beats Petrova, I'm definitely going to put a few squid on her against Clijsters

Aug 5th, 2003, 04:17 PM
Maria, Maria
She reminds me of an east Sibe(rian) glory
Growing up with Nick and Robert
She's living the life just like a movie star.

Maria, Maria
She learned to scream in Bradenton, FLA.
To the sounds of the guitar, yeah, yeah
Played by Carlos Santana

You can count me in as one of the Maria-obsessed nuts on the board! :)

Aug 5th, 2003, 04:30 PM
Hopefully it will be cracker against Nadia. You hope it'll be a what? LOL.

Aug 5th, 2003, 06:10 PM
Absolutely adore the plucky Maria (after seeing her play at Wimbly!!) and hope she beats old p*ssy face Petrova!

Aug 5th, 2003, 06:21 PM
You hope it'll be a what? LOL. Yeah, I mean a highly exciting match. To use cracker I'm used to BBC Sports, where they often use cracker.

Kata's problem is right in her WTA profile:
Coached by doubles partner Tina Krizan...
