Please tell me this ain't gonna happen....

LOS ANGELES - From "Crossroads" to dirt roads, Britney Spears could very well be the next Daisy Duke.

The 21-year-old recording artist and actress has been mentioned as one possibility to play the short-shorts-wearing character in "The Dukes of Hazzard," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Warner Bros. is still preparing the big-screen version of the good-ol'-boy hit TV series that ran from 1979 through 1985.

Ashton Kutcher of MTV's "Punk'd" and Fox's "That 70s Show" has expressed interest in the role of Bo Duke. Paul Walker of "The Fast and the Furious" is eyeing the role of Luke Duke, with Anthony Anderson as Boss Hogg.

next movie role could involve parading around in short-shorts. The Hollywood Reporter reports the buzz is that Spears will play Daisy Duke in a movie version of "The Dukes of Hazzard." Ashton Kutcher is interested in playing Luke Duke, and Paul Walker from "The Fast and the Furious" has indicated he'd like to play Bo Duke.

Ashton Kutcher is hot, but he is waaaaaay too pretty to play Luke Duke.

Britney could pull off Daisy Duke, though.

Did you notice how the held Zoe Saldana's talent to a minimum? I mean they hardly showed her dancing and they didn't let her sing but a small part in the car. I almost felt bad for Britney. I mean your the star but your side kick can dance and sing better than you?

HA! If I was going to be jealous of anyone, I'd be jealous of the people in my signature. Britney and even Ashton to a certain extent are, I'm afraid, just a waste of space. They do not contribute to cinema nor art at all.

Not a bad article on the subject of Britney's image:

June 18, 2001
Philosophy & Britney: Musings on the Preceding Post Minus One
Glorious Noise contributor Stephen Macaulay writes:
Philosophy & Britney: Musings on the Preceding Post Minus One

A fundamental question is: How much of an individual is separate from the persona? To the extent that the persona is the model of the way that one portrays one's self in public, and to the extent that individuals are, arguably, defined by how they behave or are perceived in a public setting (if a persona was wandering alone in a forest. . .), then the individual is the persona, at least as a practical manner (with "practical" representing social interaction rather than solipsistic activities). To be sure, no one actually knows how one's self is perceived by others (one might think that he is being cool while others might think he is being a complete ass. . .while another group of people might think he is being cool: everything has to do with context). But one must present him- or herself in a certain way and there are only a certain number of repertoires that one can engage at any point in time (e.g., I don't think that it would be taken as an acceptable behavior if one was to present one's self as, say, a French serf from the mid-16th century); Ziggy Bowie clones are seeming more appropriate (although it would seem to me that there is a curious temporal lag here, too).

While an individual's self-creation of a persona is one thing, the creation of a persona by a third party is something else entirely. The dismissal of or embrace of Britney has more to do, I suggest, to the fact that Spears is a simulacra than with any snobbishness, direct or reversed. What she is is the consequence of someone creating an object, a Gibsonesque idoru, something that goes far beyond the arch artificiality that is fundamental to and of "The Mickey Mouse Club," from whence she emerged. This has nothing to do with her singing ability. The reference that Jeff makes to Madonna is exceedingly apt, in that among pop performers she is the one who has worn personas like clothing, moving from one outfit to another, changing with time. Note, for example, how Britney's initial innocence has given way to naughtiness (but one that we can take is being not scandalous because if Bob Dole finds her to be appealing, then one need not worry about inappropriateness, because Bob Dole would be the first to tell you that Bob Dole, if nothing else, is as appropriate as Bob Dole can be. . .or so the Bob Dole persona would lead us to believe). And presumably she will be morphed into a variety of other guises as time goes on. Public stasis is death, as any viewing of "Entertainment Tonight" will prove.

While one would certainly be in favor of authenticity in place of artificiality, the questions that remain are what would those guys in the park kicking ollies be if they weren't faux Beasties Boys; what would those guys in Einstein's Bagels be in they weren't wondering how to buy a single colored contact lens to achieve the two-color effect; who would anyone be if they weren't something within the context of our understanding? Fooling one's self too much is pathological, just as too much self-awareness is debilitating (as Eliot's Prufrock asked "do I dare eat a peach?"—when you get to this state, you're thinking way too much).

As Bishop Berkeley argued long ago: To be is to be perceived.

a waste of space? who the fuck do you think you are to even say people are just a waste of space!??! do they entertain people? do people enjoy coming to watch their performances? just because you don't particularly enjoy someone and what they do, doesn't give you the right to say that they shouldn't be doing it at all or be alive. And this is not just regarding Britney and Ashton, I'm talking in a general sense whereas people need to stop degrading other people's lives and what they do with it. Do you even know how hard it is to get to where Britney and Ashton are!?!? Does your brain have the ability to comprehend the difficulty of surviving show business!? Obviously not!

No offence to Britney, but it's just that when you think about it, there is probably a 1,000,000 other people for one Britney who could do something a million times more interesting - heck, I think anyone can - but who don't have the resources to do so. I deem Britney a waste of space too, not as a person, but as an artist. I mean, not to take away from her or anything - doing what she is doing is a tough enough job probably; and who knows, she might have something to say beyond "hit me baby one more time". If she rocks somebody's boat, fine. I'm not saying being Britney is necessarily easy, but she really, really wouldn't be the first person to get my sympathy. She knows what kind of business she is in...

Er, firstly I never said she shouldn't be alive. To quote cellophane, this is what I mean also.

Britney a waste of space too, not as a person, but as an artist.

I couldn't care less who she entertains and who enjoys her "music" (I have no problem with strippers and prostitutes either) but when she comes onto our TV screens not because she's talented but because she's just beautiful and popular, then there's a problem. Fact is, many people would agree that there are so many more talented musicians (real musicians) than Britney who don't get their dues because of people like Britney who steal their limelight away from them. Take Enya for example, Coca-Cola isn't exactly going to put her in their commercial are they? Britney is all about money, no talent, just a big marketing vehicle. That's all. I'm not jealous of people like that, I pity them.

Thanks for the laugh, obvioulsy you are baised. Mya dances like the biggest slut around, you must love her new "I'm a stripper and that's the only way i can sell records" video, that is some real deep stuff there. Madonna dances like an old grandma nowadays, and pink barely dances.
As for Aaliyah her moves are so mechanical and repetitive.

I've also noticed that soo many black girls are jealous and hate on britney the most, it must be b/c she breaks the sterotype that white girls have no curves and can't dance as well.

Mya was awesome in Chicago, although she had a small role.

No, not really. It doesn't matter that much. But if she could, it would be a plus. Just as if she could write her own songs (well, with the current content, it doesn't matter). I never said I hate Britney. I only think what she (her people?) does is fuckshit. Her music is a waste of space. yeah she does have the choice to do what she wants but she wouldn't be as popular and you wouldn't see her as much as you do if people didn't want to see her. and you wouldn't have her doing a remake of whatever if it wasn't her that people want to see. it's called demmand...

She also fits that 'Daisy Duke' image which is another thing that Im sure they were going for. Lets face it, anyone that saw her movie knows she really, well, isnt a good actress. But if she's going to get paid the big bucks to act again, I'm not mad at her. I also personally dont care for her, but its all about the dollars...

It comes out on December 25th this year, but I think it's limited release, not sure. It should go wide release soon though. The Oscars are in end of February next year, so they better spread the movie and spread buzz fairly quickly. But it's Miramax we're talking about here.

I don't know if you have time, but read Charles Frazier's novel (same name) first. Renee plays Ruby Thewes, and she's the funniest character by far. From early script reviews, it seems she steals the show (which may or may not be a good thing for the movie), but for Renee it is. :)

My favourite Renee movie is Chicago. Just simply stunning, the acting, singing, and looks.

Have you seen Nurse Betty? She was robbed of Oscar nod in that. Really great performance.

Apparently she's gaining weight now fir Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason which should be really good too.

And then she's going to be Cinderella Man with Russell Crowe, a strange couple but I'm looking forward to it.

do you take Lithium?

I'm basing my opinion on Mya because I saw her do a live accustical set on HBO where one number she tap danced and didn't sing and the rest was just her voice and a guitar. Can Britney do that? You know sing and dance with out a track to lip sync to and 20 dancers to surround and distract your eyes? For the record I haven't even seen Mya's new video yet.

Madonna's 40 something year old arse can dance circles around Britney. You see Madonna actually was and is a dancer unlike your fav who has taken dance classes all her life. Big difference.

Yes I've seen Britney dance in her videos I've seen her dance on the pepsi commercial. She looks like she has cement in her shoes. She can do the hand movements but graceful she ain't.

Pink really can dance. Check out her video for Get the Party started. Also, saw her and Maya and one other girl who I can't remember do a dance tribute to Janet Jackson. Dancing doesn't go with this new "punk" image of hers so she doesn't do it that often anymore but she has talent there considering I doubt she's spent much time in a dance class, maybe she has.
