After a huge success it's always hardo to motivate yourself and fufill the needs of listeners and critics!

The record industry got a little too "tough, tough, tough"

and so they "turned out the lights, turned out the lights".

Sorry, had to go there.

That song reminds me of Sydney in the Summer of the Lions Tour.

Good times, cute chick.

Doesn't she have a new song with Swollen Members?
It's pretty interesting although I think Swollen Members is way too overhyped.

Maybe she made like a bird....

Yup she Flew like a bird and went away, thank goodness...

Hey! she was good! :(

I never really get into this type of music, but she was cute, and she could sing. and Steve Vai played with her at the grammy's

I just never got into her... she had an good voice but some of her songs just got on my nerves, thats all......

Jul 31st, 2003, 12:38 AM
She's somewhere living comfortably off the sales from her first CD.... She'll be back in about another year, as she's trying to follow the Alanis Morrisette trend. ;)

Jul 31st, 2003, 12:39 AM
I think she cursed gratuitously on her CD.

Jul 31st, 2003, 12:40 AM
In Spain we can hear her featuring in a song by Juanes, but that song might heve been recorded more than a year ago, so I have no idea

hey any portugese ppl in this forum? Didn't she release a few portugese songs too? I heard about something like that...she's apparently speaks it very well.

btw King Satan, if you want your Nelly fix you can download the song 'breath by Swollen Members feat. Nelly Furtado'....hopefully you'll be able to stand the rapping that accompanies her vocals  (unless you already like Swollen Members in which case ignore what I said)

She's bilingual so I would imagine she does :)

I liked her CD but thought she sounded shit on the radio (joke for Whoa, Nelly owners)

Maybe Nelly thought she was like a bird and flew away.
Or maybe she turned off the light and now can't find the switch anymore.

I think I forgot my medication :o Sorry.

Oh, i had to read the posts first. Seems like there were already people making jokes with the songs. Bummer!!

It is really hard to sustain success in the music industry. Look at Macy Gray. After her first album's success, she debuted last week w/ her new CD somewhere around 45:o . FOURTY FIVE. Even WEIRD ALL did top twenty I think.

Translation for what the above poster means:
It's because everyone is a thief.... They would rather steal the music and cheat the RIAA.... That's why Nelly Furtado isn't around anymore. Don't let any one else tell you different... it's because of the bastards at KaZaA and all of you that steal music..... I hope to see you all in court.

Actually when Napster was at its peak the record industry was doing great.
Cynical programming and producing did the industry in. You can't slap the same producers onto every friggin' single; shove "soul-less" boybands and their solo offspring down the consumer's throat; create duplicates of every new trend (there were at one point in time a dozen Britneys competing for the same market share, including Mandy, Christina, Hoku, etc.)
Let's not even talk about rock, push a bunch of model dating, trust fund kids (Strokes) down our throats as the vanguard of "gutter rock"; meanwhile guys who really can rock a crowd don't get any marketing even if they're lucky enough to get a deal.
The industry is getting what it deserves, it shat on the consumer and outside of Hip Hop and Country, its paying the price.
Hype doesn't work anymore because they over hyped everything two years ago; the music industry is in the perfect place for all true artists...

...clueless with no "plan" in sight.

If I was running a label right now, I would be loving life; if nothing is working you can't be second guessed to death for deviating from the pretty pop star formula.

This is the second worse period for music (the Poison-led, pre-Nirvana, hair band late 80s will always be the worst) in my life time.

Where are the Knack and Cheap Trick when we need them? :p

She is probably doing herself some good by not being in everyone's face right now after the success of her debut album. People are picky and get sick of people so quick these days it's disgusting. Hopefully working hard on her next album and not just throwing out a half ass job of a second album for the sake of riding on the same wave.

Jul 31st, 2003, 10:05 AM
She's working on her second album as we speak, having spent two years on the road in support of the first one, a tour that finished a couple of months ago. In the meantime she's guested on work by Swollen Members, Juanes, Paul Oakenfold and Tricky, amongst others. New album expected by the end of the year

Jul 31st, 2003, 10:13 AM
She also did that really annoying track with Ms Jade, where she goes Ba-ba-ba Ching -ching-ching

In the beackground it really grates after a few listens.

Jul 31st, 2003, 10:50 AM
Her and Juanes' single went to #1 in Argentina and it's still at #4 IIRC.

Jul 31st, 2003, 01:13 PM
hey I liked ching ching ching, dava! :p

like everybody else said, she's working on her second album. I'd rather wait than have an Nsync type record that they record while they still promote the previous one.

Nelly Furtado evokes thoughts of Penelope Cruz and that's not happiness to think of.

Jul 31st, 2003, 06:48 PM
She is working on her new album as we speak. VH1.com did something on it and she said she feels "free to do whatever the hell I want on this record." Due out by the end of the year.

I agree with Randy H as well, it's a good thing she is not in people's faces yet. When her album came out, she was only a small notch down from Britney, X-Tina, N'Sync etc, in terms of popularity. It's better for her to take the time to make a good album in order for her to prove she isn't a flash in the pan. She better not make the Hootie and the Blowfish mistake of being anywhere and everywhere for 4 years straight.

i'm portuguese and I only know 1 song in portuguese! Don't really know her work! She does speak the language, although she's not a very good speaker which is understanding! She's famous here, but not that famous!
