View Full Version : Alanis -- Under Rug Swept

Jan 29th, 2002, 10:26 PM
OK, I've just downloaded the whole thing (spare me the lecture of downloading music and copyrights, I'll buy the damn thing when it comes out).... And it's fantastic!!

1. 21 Things I Want In A Lover
Great way to start. Upbeat, rocking, great lyrics!

2. Narcissus
Not my fave on here, but it's still great.

3. Hands Clean
Current single.

4. Flinch
Absolutely brill! I just adore this song. Wonderful lyrics!

5. So Unsexy
Slower tempo, very different than the first 4 songs. Excellent song, none the less.

6. Precious Illusions

7. That Particular Time
Best Alanis ever. Nothing else to say.

8. A Man
A little but clunky here between #6 and #8, but it's a good song, maybe just misplaced.

9. You Ow Me Nothing In Return
Very moody and dark. I could see this as a single.

10. Surrendering

11. Utopia
Sad, haunting yet a hint of hope. Lyrically sound!

OMG! OMG! yay i love you seles fellow alanis fan! :D

Yeah this album is brilliant and i'm definitely buying it on Feb 26th or 25th i forgot!!

My review then! :)

1. 21 Things I Want In A Lover
Excellent song! I love the beat!
Are you unhinbited in bed more than 3 times a week, up for being experimental?

2. Narcissus
Not my fave either, weird lyrics but catchy.
You go back to your friends who will lick your ass

3. Hands Clean
I love it, radio friendly!
I might marry you one day if you watch that weight and keep your firm body

4. Flinch
Beautiful but not my fave!
i'll only flinch at your name

5. So Unsexy
Excellent song!
I can feel so unsexy for someone so beautiful

6. Precious Illusions
Superb indeed, certainly my fave, see my signature. :)
You'll rescue me right? in the exact same way they never did

7. That Particular Time
I like it but not as much.

8. A Man
Quite a scary music lol! i like it though!
i am a man, as a man i've been told..

9. You Owe Me Nothing In Return
Excellent song! I love the lyrics!
You owe me nothing for giving the love that i gave, you owe me nothing for caring the way that i did, i give you thanks for receiving it's my privilege and you owe me nothing in return

10. Surrendering
And i salute you for your courage and i applaud your perseverance

11. Utopia
Really sad but beautiful and lyrics are so true!
We would open our arms, we'd all jump in, we'd all coast down into safety nets

Also listen to the b-sides, they're excellent, she wrote 27 songs and only 11 on the album.

Listen to Unprodigal Daughter, Fear of Bliss, Sister Blister, Bent 4 U, Awakening Americans etc.

She's soooo totally awesome! Last weekend on MMUSA (Much Music) they had a concert w/her where she surprised a girl in her school and sang some new songs. It was so good.

Another Alanis Fan Here also

Jan 30th, 2002, 08:18 PM
I have to buy this album when it comes out! Only 11 songs. A much shorter album than her previous two. Any "hidden" songs like "Your House" on Jagged Little Pill?

Jan 30th, 2002, 09:34 PM
Aloysus, i think there's one hidden song but i'm not sure. Also they will be a lot of b-sides on the singles, and a dvd! :)

I'm so excited i cant wait!

We'll fast forward to a few years later
And no-one knows except the both of us
And i have more than honored your request for silence
And you've washed your hands clean of this

Jan 30th, 2002, 10:15 PM
yeah I love Hands Clean, I can't wait till the album comes out.

I like Alanis, too!

I have "Jagged Little Pill" and "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie" so I suppose I'll get the new album someday.

"You Oughta Know" is such a KICK-ASS song :D

I wish Sheryl Crow would hurry up and get a new album out!

Jan 30th, 2002, 11:10 PM
Shirley I completely agree with u, Sheryl has been away too long.

Feb 25th, 2002, 08:21 AM
OMG maybe it's out today, omg i have to go to the store!

Feb 25th, 2002, 01:00 PM
I heard Hands Clean is about a relationship Alanis had with a 30 year old man when she was 14...BTW did Glen Ballard also produce "Supposed Former..." I cant remember!

Yeah she produced this one on her own, should be interesting to see what it sounds like, but if Hands Clean is any indication, then it should be great album!

Feb 25th, 2002, 02:12 PM
I love Alanis and Hands clean too. Can't stop listening to that song.I'll buy the album as soon as I can.Is it already out?

Feb 25th, 2002, 02:37 PM
!This album comes out early March in the UK, I have it on pre-order with Amazon so it'll be dispatched as soon as it's released. I've downloaded "Hands Clean" and it's a great song. From what I'm reading it seems like Alanis hasn been through her rebellious phase (Jagged Little Pill) and her dark, depressive phase (Supposed Former...) and seems more content with things. I don't have the album yet so tell me if I'm way off the mark lol :p !

Feb 25th, 2002, 03:00 PM
I saw it'll be in Virgin Megastore on March the 4th, pff i'm not waiting one more week, the official release date is today or tomorrow! There must be a way to find it somehow! lol.

Feb 26th, 2002, 01:42 AM
I preordered it on Amazon.com!:bounce:

Feb 26th, 2002, 06:56 AM

Feb 26th, 2002, 12:21 PM
Happy Alanis Day!
The CD is out today!!! :)

Feb 26th, 2002, 02:01 PM
I bought my copy of the CD today! :bounce:

Haven't heard it yet, but I will tomorrow hopefully. :)

Remember when You Oughta Know came out and there was the rumour that the song was about her affair with comedian Dave Coulier (Uncle Joey on Full House)? She was only a teenager at the time. He was in his thirties. Is Hands Clean about the same relationship? I hope not. I hope she's moved on.

About the Glen Ballard thing, I recall that another poster posted something in another thread about Glen producing for another artist at the same time Alanis was making Under Rug Swept, and so was more dedicated to that instead. I might be mistaken.

Actually, from the CD, you can access a website (you have to register) and then you can listen to 3 "hidden" mp3 songs: "Flinch (live at the Whisky in LA)", "Sister Blister", and a karaoke with "utopia" ...
And there is the "Hands Clean" clip with the making of!

For all Alanis fans, you must buy it NOW ;)
