Girls and their phones!

Coming with iPod
Nicole always comes on court with her iPod before each match and organizers have to push her forward on court because she can't hear "Mademoiselle Nicole Vaidisova's coming on court" because she listens to her iPod.

She listens to her favourite music and her small iPod has hidden in pocket of her jacket and she always takes out her iPod till she sits on chair. "I'm accostumed to listen to my iPod for 10-15 mins before my match... I often listen to faster music. It calms me down till we would be on court," Nicole said. Which interpreters are her favourites? "I often change it along my mood. I have Justin Timberlake at the moment and then some rock groups which aren't too much known. But they play something like Metallica," she told.
Justin Timberlake :tape: :help:
But I'd like to know what those rock bands who sound like Metallica are :rocker2: :D

That would be cool, but not too many girls are into thrash metal unfortunately. Then again, I went to a Slayer gig last year and there were quite a few women in attendance, close to 10% of the crowd maybe (as opposed to the usual <1% ;)), some of them very young. But Children of Bodom (with their "cute" if somewhat effeminate frontman) were also part of the line-up, so I suppose that's who most of them came to see.

i think it was established by her agency who thinks Nicole can pull a Maria thing, winning slam as soon as her career takes off. when she could't accomplish that, they gave up and the site died

but i bet they still held the copyright of nicolevaidisova.com. whenever she win slam, it will comeback for sure. just like Maria who happened to has her own official site year ago.

Children of Bodom :help:
I' used to listen to their first two albums when I was teenager until I recognized that they were a bunch of clowns (although some of their guitar solos were not bad). I know and met many girls who were into thrash or even heavier stuff and their taste was quite good. But you are right, the more "handsome" frontman the more women attend the jig. Despite the band being a complete shit.
I can't imagine Nicole listening to Raining Blood 10 minutes before start of her match.

I found a report.

Wednesday 20th June 2007
Then over on the second practise courts watched some sessions of Tsvetana Pironkova hitting ground strokes and serves, in the far distance was Nicole Vaidisova having some serious treatment/stretches with a physio. (She seemed to be having a few problems with her lower back)

and now Nicole Vaidisova was jogging up and down, warming up and started a long practise session full which seemed to be many focused mainly on volleys and net work. At one point Nicole hit a very wild shot that flew in the air and landed in the middle of someone's picnic at the Pimms bar hahahhaha After the initial embarrassment Nicole was calling over to them saying sorry, but the people seemed to find the funny side in it, so it was alright! ;)

I hope the treatment was just as a precaution. It seems she wants to practise her volleys on grass.

Yes, but Eastbourne QF pts were more than Rosmalen SF pts since Rosmalen is a Tier III.

Ready to make a name for herself
By DAVE SCHEIBER

Published June 27, 2007

One of the top women competing at Wimbledon this week is a tall and lanky teen from overseas with long blond hair and a Top 10 ranking honed at Nick Bollettieri's elite Bradenton academy. And the answer isn't Maria Sharapova. She's Nicole Vaidisova, and the 18-year-old Czech is making a name for herself in spite of the unavoidable comparisons to the 20-year-old Siberian star and fellow Bollettieri product.

Of course, Vaidisova has a long way to go to match the achievements of the 6-foot-2 Sharapova, ranked No. 2 in the world, with more than $9.3-million in career earnings and a pair of Grand Slams wins.

Still, the talented 6-footer is making waves. She's ranked 10th in the world, with six singles wins, $1,771,696 in career earnings and semifinal appearances in this year's Australian Open and last year's French Open.

Though Vaidisova has been battling a right wrist injury, she climbed temporarily to a career-high ranking of No. 7 in May and reached the quarterfinals of the French Open.

Larry Scott, head of the WTA Tour, calls Vaidisova a player to watch at Wimbledon and a future star of the tour.

"Keep your eyes on Nicole and Ana Ivanovic -- they both have great grass court games and are capable of breaking through, " he said. "They are our next generation stars; these are Top 5 players a couple of years from now."

Bollettieri praises Vaidisova's big serve and says she can excel at Wimbledon if she can "capitalize on her defensive returns, play aggressively and cut down on her unforced errors."

We caught up with Vaidisova recently and talked with her about her burgeoning career.

Do you feel like you're hitting your stride?
"I feel like still I'm improving and playing better, so that's a good thing."

How do you like working with Nick?
"It's definitely a great training facility and Nick is an unbelievable coach. He sees everything. And he's such a genuine, nice person who really tries to help you. He worked with me when I was younger, now he'll work with me on little things on the court, or we'll go to dinner and talk about my game."

What goals have you set for yourself?
"I don't set myself goals (on ranking) anymore. But I just want to feel like I'm working hard and if I do that, it'll pay off. I just want to enjoy playing tennis. There are still so many years ahead of me. It's an unbelievable journey and I don't want to spend it worrying. Of course, you have ultimate goals of getting to a certain spot and winning Grand Slams."

What do you like to do apart from tennis?
"When I'm home, I just want to spend my time with friends who I don't see much. That's the hardest thing -- the travel that makes it so you don't see your friends and family as much. So I just like to relax with my friends, go to movies, go to dinner. I just try to stay very mellow. I don't go to too many parties. I also love to read. But that's usually more during the tournaments. I went to a lot of hockey games because I'm a big Lightning fan."

Do you listen to a lot of music?
"Definitely. I like pretty much everything -- except for country and jazz. I have a couple of iPods."

How about television?
"I'm addicted to America's Next Top Model. That's my one show. I love it."

What, no American Idol?
"Not really. But I like Katharine McPhee. I have her new album. It's pretty good. But I never got into the show."

What are your biggest influences?
"Of course, my parents. My dad is my coach, so he's had a big influence on me as a player, and my mom, who has helped make me the person I am. Also I'm Czech at heart, so for sure it's my Czech roots."

Did you watch Martina Navratilova a lot as a child?
"Well, I was born in Germany, so pretty much Steffi Graf (left) was my idol. But I didn't grow up watching tennis too much on TV. I was more just enjoying watching tennis, not knowing there were tournaments or prize money or Grand Slams."

Do you like living in the United States?
"The people here are very nice, very open and welcoming. But I still feel like I'm European. Every time I go back there I feel like I'm home. But I'll always be influenced by America."

Was there a turning point in your life?
"In the Juniors, winning the Orange Bowl showed me that I can do very well. And in the pros, it was winning my first WTA tournament when I was 14. It gave me more to work for."

Do you get tired of the comparisons to Maria Sharapova?
"I definitely admire Maria for what she's done. She's an unbelievable tennis player. But I think we're just so different, and we do different things. We have different interests in every aspect. I try to do my own thing and just be myself. And I think people are slowly realizing that."

Nicole Vaidisova: "Of course, I'm disappointed right now. It's hard to see the positive things. But I think when I wake up tomorrow or Saturday I'll see how great my run was here... Of course I'm disappointed right now, but I'm not going to go and be all heartbroken about it. It's tennis. It's a sport."

Nicole, of course the way you lost the QF match has made some of your fans cry. At the same time, I remain very proud of your performance and your game. You Are The Best!! It's just a matter of time before you will shine brilliantly!! Of course I Believe In You Totally!!

Q. Do you think because of what happened today you need to start working on the mental side of things?
NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Definitely there's things I still could improve. Sure, I mean, I'm a very emotional player and person. I'll always be. But of course there's a limit up to it. Something you have to work on.
Q. Does that mean working with a sports psychologist more?
NICOLE VAIDISOVA: I don't think so.
Q. No?
NICOLE VAIDISOVA: No.
Q. How do you improve it, start to control those nerves?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: I think also as you get older, I think you get better at that. But also I have my family and people around me who can help me with that.

I think she should take one

Tennace
Jul 6th, 2007, 08:32 PM
I dont think she needs one.

She just got nervous in a big situation on a surface she does not do so well on. On any other surface I think Nicole would have beaten Ana if she was up by the score she was. She has learned from past experiences, and I think she will learn enough from this one to help her.

It would help to get a sports psychologist, but I dont think she needs one.

It really isn't only on grass though.

She has lost a lot of three-setters and close matches to top 10 players on other surfaces too.

On one hand, I think Nicole would benefit from talking to someone about her nervousness in those big matches because it has happened a few times already, and her having three matchpoints the other day and losing isn't a good sign.
But at the same time every player matures and progresses at different paces. I like what I saw at Wimbledon from Nicole. She's becoming pretty consistant in the slams and improved on last year's result.

I'm hoping for a title this summer. I really think if she won a title it would really boost her confidence.

i disagree i think that she will learn as she plays more its just she needs more experiance she didnt really play that bad in the last part of the ana match just ana lifted her game and there were a couple of points that she had some shocking errors eg the Double fault but mainly it was ana playing better so i think she will learn with time hopfully :D

I know that's her US Open outfit, along with the black one, but I don't think she'll wear it before the US Open.

There's a black dress she'll be wearing too? I didn't know that.

I like the blue dress. :)

Gasquet has the reputation to chase the girls  (Well, he's cute but not sexy)

Considering Nicole's illness can be very long, she'll lose a lot of points in the rankings. So far, she didn't play so much this year.Apart from the Gs, she played 5 tournaments in 6 months.

I don't think Nicole will be 100% ready for the Uso and it could be her worst Gs of the year (as last year) but she has the perfect dress to shine ;)

Nicole Gets Caught Reading

Ever since she burst onto the scene as a fresh faced 15-year-old, Czech starlet Nicole Vaidisova has gained a reputation as not only one of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour's brightest young stars, but also as one of its most avid book lovers. On Wednesday, July 25 The Association of American Publishers unveiled Vaidisova as the latest sports star to lend their support to 'Get Caught Reading', the nationwide public service reading campaign which promotes the joys of books and reading to children of all ages.

As a regular book report contributor to 'Smash Tennis' Magazine, Vaidisova has gained repute as one of the most well read players on Tour and the President and CEO of the Association of American Publishers, Patricia Scott Schroeder was understandably delighted about the world No.10's desire to get involved in the initiative. "With millions of fans by her side inspired by her tennis prowess and now influenced by her love of books, we're honored to have Nicole join our cast of public figures by contributing her time and sharing her commitment to books and reading. We're expecting tennis fans across the nation will soon be caught reading, both on and off court!"

Vaidisova first came to prominence when, as a 15-year-old qualifier, she won her maiden Tour title in Vancouver. This spectacular showing was followed up by an even more impressive feat, when she became one of only three players in Tour history to win two events in her rookie year. The following season brought with it even more success for the teenage sensation, as she won three consecutive Tour titles, in Seoul, Tokyo and Bangkok. The past two seasons have seen the 18-year-old transform these performances onto the greatest stage, reaching semifinals at Roland Garros and the Australian Open and earlier this year she climbed to a career-high world ranking of No.7.

Get Caught Reading is a nationwide public service campaign launched by the Association of American Publishers in 1999 with the aim of promoting the joy of reading. The cornerstone of the campaign has centered around enlisting public figures to "get caught reading" their favorite titles, with posters available at no charge to booksellers, librarians and educators across the country. Through celebrity involvement, Get Caught Reading leads by example. Now in its eighth year, the campaign continues to grow and has caught on worldwide. Celebrities who have appeared in the campaign include boxing legend George Foreman, Mary Kate and Ashley Olson, Hollywood stars Whoopi Goldberg and Robin Williams and Johnny Damon of the New York Yankees.

To view the posters of the many celebrities getting caught reading their favorite books are available at no charge to complement the reading campaigns in every community across America by visiting the web site at www.getcaughtreading.org.

Vaidisova ready to resume training
Eurosport - Wed, 01 Aug 11:53:00 2007

Nicole Vaidisova is ready to resume training after taking a month off with a mild form of glandular fever.

The 18-year-old was diagnosed with the illness after her quarter final loss to Ana Ivanovic at Wimbledon but a check-up on Monday cleared the world number 10 to return to training.

"Nicole is all right and we will start with light training," her step father and coach, Ales Kodat, told Sport.

It is yet to be decided whether Vaidisova, who reached the semi finals at the Australian Open earlier in the year as well as the quarter finals of both the French Open and Wimbledon, will make her return to competitive action in Toronto or two weeks later at the US Open.

"We will decide according to how Nicole will be feeling," Kodat added.

No tendría ninguna preferencia.

¿A quién admiras?

Talented Vaidisova hoping to temper emotions for 2008
Ubha

By Ravi Ubha
Special to ESPN.com

In an era in which more and more coaches seem to coddle standout athletes, Nick Bollettieri didn't hold back when discussing Nicole Vaidisova.

Vaidisova, with looks to match Maria Sharapova and a game some say is better, appeared to make progress this year, reaching a Grand Slam semifinal and two quarterfinals, even though she was hampered by a wrist injury and suffered a bout of mononucleosis. For Bollettieri, it seems, the glass was half empty.

"She's only 18, and a lot's been expected of her," said Bollettieri, still spotting and nurturing talent at the age of 76. "However, she doesn't want to throw away opportunities, and a few opportunities have been thrown away. Not because of striking a ball, but I believe the focus, and knowing that you're a winner, not thinking it."

Vaidisova has won plenty since she joined Bollettieri's Florida academy eight years ago, traveling from Eastern Europe in what's becoming a more common journey in tennis nowadays. She emulated child prodigies Jennifer Capriati and Martina Hingis by winning top-tier matches as a 14-year-old -- a 6-foot tall 14-year-old -- then claimed two titles when she was 15.

Two years ago, Nicole Vaidisova won three titles in as many weeks. Unfortunately, the Czech has not been able to build on that momentum.
Two years ago the feats continued as the Czech became the first women's player since Lindsay Davenport -- Vaidisova and Grand Slam champions popping up in the same sentence is a theme -- to claim three events in as many weeks, and strung together an 18-match winning streak eventually halted by Amelie Mauresmo.

But like the young Roger Federer, who flung his racket and berated himself even when he won points, Vaidisova struggles with her emotions. More than a few of her own rackets have been pulverized, and those glares between points to her stepfather who doubles as her coach, Alex Kodat, seem almost ritualistic.

Federer overcame his foibles, of course, and has 12 majors to show for it.

"If you don't control the emotions it's very seldom you'll reach a level of excellence," Bollettieri said. "She needs probably to sit down and say, hey young lady, this is it, this is a business, you got to get a hold of yourself and go for broke [in 2008]."

Two high-profile examples of Vaidisova's temper have come in New York, which she calls her favorite city. Vaidisova tossed a water bottle on court and smashed a ball into the crowd during a fourth-round defeat to Nadia Petrova at the U.S. Open in 2005, drawing jeers from the notoriously feisty Big Apple fans.

This year at Flushing Meadows, her preparations wiped out by the mono that surfaced the second week of Wimbledon, Vaidisova pummeled her Yonex against her chair upon squandering match points against Flavia Pennetta in the second set, seemingly forgetting she was in the lead, before wrapping up the second-round encounter in a tiebreak a few minutes later. She's currently testing out some different Yonex models, by the way, and will have a new one by the time 2008 begins.

The glares came to the fore in the Wimbledon quarterfinals, when Vaidisova blew three match points and this time couldn't recover against Serbian starlet Ana Ivanovic, one match after dethroning Mauresmo, the defending champion.

Former U.S. Open champion Tracy Austin suggested at the time Vaidisova travel without a coach during the U.S. Open Series, which turned out to be a moot point due to the mono.

"She's got to trust herself," said commentator Mary Carillo, a former French Open mixed-doubles champ. "It's the question of taking charge of your game and not relying on someone to calm you down. It would make a world of difference."

Bollettieri predicts progress by the time the Australian Open starts in January, with Vaidisova's agent adding changes for the good have already been made.

"I think this is already showing in the way she played the last tournaments of this year," said Olivier Van Lindonk, who saw another of his tennis clients, Mario Ancic, get stricken with mono this year. "With experience she will only get tougher, and we feel the end of the 2007 season is a great springboard for 2008."

Vaidisova herself now says she has ample "motivation" to control her emotions. It was a gradual metamorphosis, rather than a single match, that instigated the process.

"I know until the rest of my career I'll always be an emotional player," she said. "It's just me. I'll always have my emotions on court, but of course there's a limit to it. I'll try to do better on that next year."

Injuries and illness aside, tempering those emotions might just put her over the hump.

Vaidisova didn't suffer many upset losses in 2007. Apart from retiring against Renata Voracova in her final tournament, Quebec City, because the wrist was acting up and losing to a disproportionately-ranked Serena Williams in the Australian Open semifinals, she only got beat by two players outside the top 30 -- Lucie Safarova and Michaella Krajicek, both of whom can hardly be considered journeywomen.

Of her other 10 defeats, six went to three sets and only one, against the Federer-esque Justine Henin at a Wimbledon warm-up, could be classified as lopsided. Vaidisova, armed with a big first serve, came close to toppling Henin in the Zurich Open semifinals last month, falling 7-5 in the third set.

It was only the second time post-Wimbledon that Henin dropped a set and was arguably the world No. 1's closest match since.

"I really like her strokes," Carillo said. "They're well crafted. I think she does a lot of things well. She's got tremendous natural power, and she's got a lot of what she needs. What I would love to see more from her now is the confidence to know what to do at the big moments."

Great article. :yeah:
Thanks. :)

WTA Tour - Q & A: Nicole Vaidisova
Eurosport - Tue, 04 Dec 12:51:00 2007

Nicole Vaidisova wants to forget about an injury-filled 2007 season and is already looking forward to her biggest challenge of 2008, the Beijing Olympics.

The 18-year-old Vaidisova started the season at 10th in the WTA rankings, but finished 12th at the end of the year.

The Czech's injury troubles in 2007 were as follows: a split finger during an exhibition in Hong-Kong in January, an injured right wrist in April that kept her out of much of the clay season, a case of glandular fever in July that kept her out of play for nearly two months between Wimbledon and the US Open, a problem with the ligaments in her left knee in September, and another injury to her right wrist in October.

She is clearly hoping that 2008 will be a more healthy year than 2007:

Q: Nicole, have you started training for the new season?

NV: I have been building fitness since last week and I have just started actual tennis training a few days ago.

Q: I heard you have a new fitness coach. Is he strict?

NV: Yes, but I need that. (laughs)

Q: Tell me something about his training methods.

NV: I had not been doing anything for four weeks so we were starting practically from scratch. I mainly do a lot of jogging, sprinting, squatting, and gym work. Nothing unusual but a lot of practice.

Q: As for tennis, are you working on anything special with your father Ales Kodat?

NV: We have some points which show themselves in unsuccessful matches that I need to improve on. I don't want to talk about the main one but in general those are the technically-tactical things - going to the net or positioning on the court.

Q: What about your health?

NV: I am tired from the fitness training but apart from it I am absolutely fine. (laugh)

Q: So that is a change from what was otherwise a really unsuccessful year in terms of injuries. Are you happy that the season is over?

NV: To be honest, yes I am. I was happy to see the season over. I am looking forward to moving away from it and having a new start. I hope the next year will be better than this one. And I am working hard to make that happen.

Q: Has there been anything positive that stuck in your memory from 2007?

NV: It was a strange year. I had a great start, reaching the semi-finals of Australian Open, I played well at French Open after the wrist injury. I don't have only negative memories of this year, it was more like up and down.

Q: Many people predict you to be a main star in 2008, what are you objectives?

NV: I have just one objective, to go through the season without being injured or ill.

Q: What about returning to Top 10, a Grand Slam final or taking part in one of the Masters Cup events?

NV: Of course, I have an idea in my head what I would like to achieve. But that can be achievable only if I stay fit. Now it is useless to speak about it.

Q: Are you looking forward to the Olympic Games in Beijing?

NV: Enormously. The Olympic Games are one of the 2008 events where I am most looking forward to play.

Q: A lot of tennis players don't want to take part in it. Have you considered not playing there?

NV: Not at all. I would rather miss other tournaments than the Olympics. I love the tradition and the fact that you don't play just for yourself, that you also play for your country.

Q: The chances of winning the gold medal there might be open as Justine Henin is considering skipping the event. Why do you think she is ruling the tennis world in such style?

NV: Of course she has unbelievable strokes, but foremost, she is a big fighter. How she plays under pressure, in critical situations, that is simply unique.

Q: You are saying that you want to be the world number one in the future. So, would you like to have Justine Henin's fighting spirit and psyche?

NV: I would not like anything from her. (laughs) I would like if I personally make improvements.

Q: So, what are you lacking, except the points, to be like Justine?

NV: (laughs) Probably a sense of how to solve some exact situations on the court. But we are working hard on that. We need a little luck, for me to be fit and hard work. Then we will see.

Vaidisova rates her Aussie chances

By Nikki Tugwell
December 07, 2007

CZECH glamour Nicole Vaidisova has world No.1 Justine Henin in her sights and says she is ripe to better this year's semi-final finishes at the Australian Open and Medibank International.

Her forecast coincides with confirmation all four of the world's top players - Justine Henin, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic - will contest next month's Medibank International.

Nine of the top 12 will be in action from January 6 to 12.

World No.12 Vaidisova, beaten last January by in-form players Serena Williams and Jelena Jankovic in Sydney and Melbourne respectively, believes she has a realistic opportunity to win her maiden grand slam at the 2008 Australian Open.

"I go to every tournament to win but I have beaten the top girls in the world and know I can do it on any given day," Vaidisova said.

"It is a matter of being able to perform two weeks in a row like that and that is what I am learning."

Vaidisova, whose semi-final finish at the Australian Open equalled her previous best grand slam result at the 2006 French Open, believes the experience on the "True Blue" Plexicushion surface in Sydney before the Australian Open is critical.

'It is crucial to prepare on the same surface and it is a key part in myself coming back to Sydney to prepare as supposed to getting used to the courts in Melbourne," she said.

"The Australian Open is a tricky event as it has very tough conditions.

"Sydney is a great preparation as I get (a) a lot of tough matches, (b) the courts are the same as Melbourne and (c) the weather conditions are similar."

Strikingly similar in mannerism and appearance on court to Maria Sharapova - Vaidisova rose as high as world No.7 through the year but ended the year at No.12.

The Medibank International launched Jankovic's 2007 season, whose rankings went from world No.12 in January to world No.3 at year's end. She finished runner-up to Kim Clijsters at Homebush.

Henin returns to Sydney after missing the event last January for family-related reasons.

Twice a winner of the Medibank International, she won 10 titles in 2007.

France's 2006 Australian Open winner Amelie Mauresmo, although now ranked No.20 after taking a break from the game this year, will also return to Sydney.

Kuznetsova, the highest ranked Russian, had an outstanding year that culminated in her world ranking reaching a career-high No.2 and she recently guided her nation to the Fed Cup championship.

In the Boys 13-15 division,

Oliver Vaidis of Bradenton, FL (2012) put together two solid rounds and earned his first FCWT title. After opening with a round of 74, Vaidis was co-leading with Brandon Baerwaldt of Bradenton, FL (2010) . On Sunday Vaidis played some very consistent golf, making 12 pars. His last par of the day on # 9 was what sealed it for him. He and Brandon entered the final hole all square, but Brandon's bogey on # 9 kept him from a playoff with Oliver, whose par gave him the Champion's title.

Did you hear what Nicole said about Maria Sharapova? "The only thing we have in common is the blond hair "(or something like that).I have to say I found it quite funny. It wasn't really shoking anyway, but you can see that some players are bored about all this comparisons with Maria Sharapova.

Wtf? She's 18 years old which makes her adult according to czech law, she's allowed to drink alcohol, she can apply for a driving license. 11 years between a woman and a man is nothing unusual in todays world (that's if the man is the older one :tape:).

I am quite disgusted with the replies in the GM, is everyone a fucking superficial retard with looks obsession?

Anyway, let's see how it will turn out.

If you look at the comments, most are from the Americain posters. Some of them are very puritan (:tape:).I don't find it's weird that she's going out with a men which is 11 years older than her, that's quite common in Europe. But to get married with him, it becomes unusual I must say and it's suprising because Radek was engaged with Hingis at the first place. That's why I think most of the posters are suprised.

Thinking about that, I don't know how I would react if one of my friends tell me she's going to marry with a guy who is older than her.

But, of course, most of the players are by far more mature than most of the teenagers.

Anyway, I'm very surprised if it's true.

(sorry for the mystakes)
