RIAA Hit List

The subpoenas are flying, and we're naming names. Are you on the list?

By Tech Live staff

The recording industry has launched a sweeping effort to identify and shut down individual song swappers, making good on recent threats to expand its legal battle against copyright theft.

To be on the safe side I deleted Kazaa from my PC. But I'll be searching around for me to get more music for free without worrying about the RIAA reeming me up the ass. DAMN THOSE BASTARDS

for once I agree completely with you

What RIAA is doing is a violation of our privacy rights. Providers shouldn't give those data to RIAA, it's private!!!

I keep on using Kazaa Lite, I'm one of at least 10 millions users..I'd like to see RIAA sue them all

WINMX is great!! They have all the songs, and I don't RIAA is on to them yet.

Bacardi
Jul 28th, 2003, 05:55 PM
I think if you use Kazaalite you can be in trouble too, they have lists with Kazaalite users as well. It's the damn piss and moaning recording artists that are doing this to us. We should repay the honor by refusing to buy any new CD's of any kind. If they are going to start this shit, then they can lower the price of CD's as well. Stupid music artists saying we are taking money out of their pockets.... Bull Shit, they are still rich either way. We'll all just find other ways to get free music. Hell I might start buying CD's copying them, returning them to the stores and creating a little online business for my friends. :p And if I do, I'll charge a whole $2.00 for CD's and that includes shipping.

Bacardi
Jul 28th, 2003, 06:01 PM
what winmx, bacardi? do you hear anything on that one?

I haven't heard anything about winmx, but I did indeed see peoples names who use Kazaalite... So nothing Kazaa has is safe.
Is limewire still around by chance? I know I had it once before, but traded that in for Kazaa.

Bacardi
Jul 28th, 2003, 06:06 PM
I might have to get limewire back.... I had it before, and it done OK. A little slower than Kazaa but that won't matter... as long as I don't get my ass busted by the RIAA. Because I'd fight til death.

Bacardi
Jul 28th, 2003, 06:15 PM
I might have to get mirc Cari. :)

I'll bring down the price of CD's... $1 each, and $1 for shipping up to 5 disks. Once I have time to compile a list of all the crap music I own.... I'll list it on the site somewhere. :D

yawl are paranoid deleting kazaa off your computer.

.you can either not share
.keep only a lil music in your shared folder, move the other music to another place on your HD.

the RIAA are only going after people with tons of music in their shared folder. so if you keep only like 50 songs at a time, you should be fine.

i think this whole thing will backfire on them. who the hell is gonna wanna buy cds now? as if these bastards arent rich enough. maybe if they didnt charge 20 for a cd with three good songs on it and the rest filler, people wouldnt be DLing music. they need to rethink their position, not go around suing normal people that dont have much to begin with anyway.

oh, and you SHOULD have kazaalite on your puter and use spybot to eliminate all your spyware.

winmx SUCKS, people are so selfish on there. soulseek is pretty nice, they havea lot of underground and rare/live music.

harloo
Jul 28th, 2003, 07:04 PM
they are coming after movie downloads too. I read about it, they are starting a bunch of commericials discouraging downloading movies, but they say if it continues legal action will be taken. If anyone has the hookup on some dvd movies, holla at me. LOL

I don't care, these hollywood stars are getting paid millions to put out crappy movies.

You should be safe if you don't have a lot of songs downloaded. They are going after the suppliers. The average user should not worry. I know i will keep burning. :D

Cariaoke
Jul 28th, 2003, 07:13 PM
right on, harloo.

in fact, new line cinema contacted my boss because someone in our department was sharing lord of the rings 2. I think the guy was expelled from our school.

today, in another dept, someone got in trouble for sharing star trek movies.

people like this are usually caught because a shitload of people are d/l from them. If you limit the # of people that can d/l from you or don't share at all, this won't be a problem.

this is exactly what the RIAA wanted... a feeling of paranoia to sweep the online community and get you to stop downloading. you're doing the hard work for them by being scared.

spokenword73
Jul 28th, 2003, 07:21 PM
I think there will be a slowdown of d/l, until someone comes up with a way to get around the RIAA!

Shuji Shuriken
Jul 28th, 2003, 07:24 PM
fuck all of them...I share 420 files and I will continue to share. I also use WinMx and it's the shit. I might go and download MIRC and all other music sharing software I can find. I still buy CDs, but it makes no fucking sense buying a CD, then you only like 2 songs on the whole Cd. At least by downloading you get to sample first :fiery:. To hell with all of them. I would love to be subpoenaed all the way in South America for sharing music :haha:. I'd be famous :).

decemberlove
Jul 28th, 2003, 07:25 PM
not sharing at all is completely pointless. if everyone did this, the RIAA would be getting what they want.

i dont see the point in DLing movie. maybe this is cos im a DVD whore and id rather buy the DVD and see a top quality movie than wait forever for a DL to finish and have it turn out real shitty anyway.

as long as they dont go after porn, i dont care :p

Cariaoke
Jul 28th, 2003, 07:32 PM
well most times, I get tv episodes and movies, DVD quality, at about 400k/sec. which is about 20 mins per file. if it's a movie that I want to go preview before spending my hard-earned money to see in a theater, I'll d/l it. I make VCD's. Like, last week I made Alias VCD's because I love the TV show so much. I'm doing 24 right now. I might eventually buy the DVD's for the extra features but I have time to kill so wth. :D

The stipulations of me downloading from work state that I can't share on kazaa. That's the only reason why I don't. The RIAA is really targeting universities. :D

Get over it. Music isn't free like so many retards like to think. Artists work almost two years just to record ONE CD. And if you don't sell 500,000 copies, you lose money:o . Even after that, you only make about 1 or 2 dollars per CD. Basically, you may think that you aren't hurting the cash happy singers out there, but you really wouldn't be hurting your local bank either if you just stole a couple thousand/hundred thousand dollars a year, would you;) ? All those songs really add up.

mboyle
Jul 28th, 2003, 08:12 PM
I still buy CDs, but it makes no fucking sense buying a CD, then you only like 2 songs on the whole Cd. At least by downloading you get to sample first :fiery:.

Then use that Apple program. It is only like 1 dollar a song, and the artists get paid, and you aren't stealing copyrighted material (whether you like it or not, you are violating a major federal law each and every time you download music/movies/anything else pretty much). As for previewing it, most music stores have snipets of each song on a CD for preview before you buy it (at least all FYEs do).

Bah..the recording industry has had it too good for too long. The cost of manufacturing a cd is gotta be less than half what it costs to manufacture a cassette tape, yet they charge twice as much for a cd. F them.

you dont hear the less known musicians complain about ppl dl free music, do you? ppl sharing files can be one way to promote them actually. There are so many bands, singers who arent popular at all in norway, and it's impossible for me to get their cd's here. i would have to order online, then pay for shipping and then tax when it arrives... so when i get their music, i can bring them to the local cd stores here and make them import some of their cd's.

lol mboyle, thank you for the neg points ;)

irma, I have several PC programs, PC games, VCDs, DVDs, and CDs I found online... If they want to stop this, they should make things cheaper so we can afford them. It's rediculous to pay $80 for a computer program and $20 for a CD.

The first thing I remember knowin'......

was a lonesome whistle blowin'......

and a youngun's dream of growin' up to ride

On a freight train leavin' town...........

not knowin' where I'm bound......

and no one could change my mind.........

but Mamma Tried

One and only Rebel child ..........

from a family meek and mild.......

My mamma seemed to to know what lay in store......

'Spite all my Sunday learnin'...........

towards the bad I kept on turnin'...........

'Til mamma couldn't hold me anymore

And I turned twenty-one in prison........

doin' life without parole.......

No one could steer me right.........

but Mamma Tried ....... Mamma Tried ........

Mamma Tried to raise me better...........

but her pleading I denied..........

And that leaves only me to blame.........

'cause Mamma Tried

Dear ole' daddy...... rest his soul........

left my mom a heavy load........

She tried so very hard to feel his shoes.........

Workin' hours without rest........

wanted me to have the best.........

She tried to raise me right but I refused.

And I turned twenty-one in prison doing life without parole...

No one could steer me right, but

Mamma Tried , Mamma Tried

Mamma Tried to raise me better..

but her pleading I denied...

And that leaves only me to blame......

'cause.......

;)

exactly decemberlove.... what about those of us, who prefer to get music from artists from outside the USA... Or from Indie artists.... We can't get those and pay $1 to go in the "Save Xtina from her nasty self" fund.

Call us what you will, we are no more thiefs than the record companies who rip us off, as well as the artists. Nobody is really suffering... especially not the billion dollar a year RIAA. If you want to call each and every one of us a thief... what's scary for someone like you mboyle is the fact that we greatly out number you.... and things like music should be free for everyone to enjoy. How can they really put a price tag on tunes and words? They can't..... 'nuff said. Grow up, and when you get out of High school and learn about the REAL WORLD... you might find that we're right. However that's hard to do when mommy and daddy buy all your CD's for you. :p

You can find the lyrics to the songs here:
http://www.alwaysontherun.net/lyrics.htm

http://www.jasononline.com/music/lyzzz.htm

To pretend no one can find,
The fallacies of morning rose,
Forbidden fruit, hidden eyes,
Courtesies that I despise in me
Take a ride, take a shot now.

‘Cause nobody loves me,
It's true,
Not like you do.

Covered by the blind belief,
That fantasies of sinful screens,
Bear the facts, assume the dye,
End the vows no need to lie, enjoy,
Take a ride, take a shot now.

‘Cause nobody loves me,
It's true,
Not like you do.

Who oo am I, what and why?
‘Cause all I have left is my memories of yesterday,
Ohh these sour times.

‘Cause nobody loves me,
It's true,
Not like you do.

After time the bitter taste,
Of innocence decent or race,
Scattered seed, buried lives,
Mysteries of our disguise revolve,
Circumstance will decide.

‘Cause nobody loves me,
It's true,
Not like you do

‘Cause nobody loves me,
It's true,
Not like you

‘Cause nobody loves me,
It's true,
Not like you do

One of the ways to use Kazaa is to simply create a folder on your desktop to download files to and when you are done downloading, take the files from your newly folder and put them in your reg "my music" folder.

When you do this, someone searches for files, then yours will not come up cos there will be nothing in your folder.....

I do this to make sure that no one can download any of my files.......but to be safe, I erased Kazaa from my pc cos it also slows my damn comp down. Plus kazaa pisses me off with the spyware all the time.

On a legal note, how can the RIAA sue users for having their comps open to be spied on....we don't have to protect their materials......I could see if they come after the ones who downloaded but they are coming after the ones who simply have their files exposed....how is this feasible in the court of law? I don't get it. If only someone would stand up and fight back at the RIAA.......it is perfectly illegal what they are doing....cos they are actually going into the comp to find your information and they say that I have to change the names of files that say something like 'madonna or usher" or anything similar to a musician.....that is the outright violation of my civil rights......they are actually coming into your house and telling you how to live cos they gonna tie you up in legal shit for years and have you sued for money that you would never see in your lifetime. I think this is like the bully punking the lil kid.......

It is something that is bundled with the kazaa or whatever you are using software. It sends pop ups to your pc and sometimes it freezes up. Spyware is also the software that runs in the background and records your every move on the net and send information to your pc pertaining to what your interests are. It also burns up your cpu and slows everything down cos it is constantly running........

not sure if this has been posted, but it looks like not just the music companies can gain access to your info now...

SBC Sues to Halt Music Industry Subpoenas

SBC subsidiary Pacific Bell Internet Services sued the Recording Industry Association of America (news - web sites) in federal court in San Francisco, saying the music industry trade group has been overzealous in its pursuit of suspected song-swappers.

The RIAA has issued more than 1,000 subpoenas to SBC and other Internet providers over the past few weeks, seeking to find the names of those who use "peer to peer" services like Kazaa and Morpheus to copy music, movies and other files from each others' hard drives for free.

The trade group says a digital-copyright law requires Internet provider to comply, and a federal court in Washington agreed this spring.

But an SBC spokesman said that ruling has opened the floodgates to hundreds of questionable subpoenas from anybody who claims that their copyrighted material is being illegally distributed.

Pac Bell has received 207 requests from the music industry to turn over the names of some of its customers, one request from a pornography company for the identities of 59 customers, and more than 16,000 warnings from an independent copyright investigator, the company said in its suit.

"The action we are taking is intended to protect the privacy rights of our customers," SBC spokesman Larry Meyer said.

"It's about the fact that anyone can without any effort obtain one of these DMCA subpoenas," said Meyer, referring to the 1998 Digital Music Copyright Act.

The RIAA said it had already settled such questions in a court battle with Verizon Communications earlier this year. Verizon is currently appealing that decision.

"Pac Bell is simply recycling many of the same arguments already raised and twice rebutted by a federal court," an RIAA official said. "It's unfortunate that they have chosen to litigate this, unlike every other ISP (Internet service provider) which has complied with their obligations under the law."

Meyer said the Verizon decision only contemplated whether the subpoenas should be issued or not and did not address how they should be handled. For example, the RIAA has filed all its subpoenas in Washington even though Pac Bell is based in California, he said.

Also named in the suit were San Francisco pornography firm Titan Media and copyright investigator MediaForce.

RIAA members include AOL Time Warner Inc.'s Warner Music; Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE - news) (news - web sites).'s Sony Music; Vivendi Universal's Universal Music Group; Bertelsmann AG (news - web sites)'s BMG; and EMI Group Plc (news - web sites) .

Fuck... any new songs I downloaded there is this annoying sound, is this permanent what they are doing? I've been away the whole summer and so don't know what's going on, but it seems they seem determined to keep this up. Well fuck them. They are not doing anything to help themselves, as right now I will especially not buy cds. I think it will only be worse for them.

that noise thingy was on some of the Kiley Dean songs that I DL, but I deleted those and found some versions without that ish. I loooooooove Kiley Dean and I have to get her CD when it drops. My faves are Make Me A Song and Confused :hearts: :hearts:. I'll keep DL forever. I don't give a fuck who thinks I'm a thief :o;)

right so Kazaa spies on your coputer and kazaa lite doesn't? And by ads do you just mean the ones down the bottom of the screen when you open kazaa? Coz they don't actually bother me! lol I don't take any notice of them! I don't get any other ads! But maybe I should change to Kazaa lite.

Kazaa has more then just spyware. It even has software in it so that other people can use some of your CPU power!!!!!! They say that part of the software isn't in use yet..but anyway I don't like the thought.

Kazaa Lite rules!
