Um.. where is Regla Torres?

I don't know... where is she? Too bad she didn't wanted to play in San Diego... I mean if she was in the commitment list she would be. But as she maybe didn't commited or she was not added and didn't checked her commitments 2 weeks ago when thread was checked now she is out

 Please check that with Joshua, he is not perfect... that's why she releases the second list... to check errors. Sorry if you commited I can't add you to the draw unless someone do not sends points.

Spears ready to kick ass

http://members.tripod.co.jp/asiasemi/vera-palermo02.jpg

After a poor performance in half of the season, Spears is ready to win this time, well at least she's trying this time. Spears, who was given WC in this tournament, have a very difficult task in the first round facing Ruflina Taliamanosoko.

Q. Rachel, whatever happened in the first half of the season?
Rachel Spears : (smiling) I must say, I was too lazy. I was not scouting oppoent's strategy before playing. I was just like hopefully i can win.

Q. Lack of determination?
Rachel Spears : Yeah, that the word. I was not really go for a win. Instead before playing, I was like shit, I'm gonna get kicked again this time.

Q. So what's your expectation this time?
Rachel Spears : Definately something better than the first half. I want at least to reach quarters or semis. One step at a time.

Q. Even in this tournament?
Rachel Spears : Yeah, I guess. But this time, it's kinda tough. My first encounter with Ruflina. It's gonna be tough. But I'll try.

Q. What is your chances?
Rachel Spears : Very Little. But again, there is always a chance. Moreover I like hardcourt. And in front of my people, I promised to do my best.

Q. What about doubles?
Rachel Spears : I'm still trying to find permanent one It's seems hard. (smiling) I mean, most players had commited with other players. Moreover, I need to adjust my commitments if I have found one.

Q. Any feelings for not being chosen to play for USA in Fed Cup
Rachel Spears : (smiling) not at all. C'mon. There are so many players that are better than me. Bryanne told me about it. I was cool with it. And USA had stayed in the WG. So I'll try next year.

Q. Well, that's it for today. Good Luck
Rachel Spears : Thanks

Lindsay Sarile poses with a fan after her 7-6(8), 5-7, 6-4 victory over Larissa Liashenko of Belarus in the first round of the Acura Classic in San Diego California. The Filipina will next face third-seed Angelica dela Coutiere of Canada.

"I think we were both cramping pretty bad in that match. That first set was unbelievable. I think I was trailing, what, about 5-0 or 4-0 then? Larissa is just this incredible veteran, at such a young age, that you should never take her lightly. I was lucky to scrape through."

"My hopes are not up for tomorrow. Angelica is very good at making her opponents run all over the place and I don't think my body is up for that. You can't go out on court against a grandslam champion without your full arsenal and expect to win."

SORRENTA BATTLES INTO QUARTERFINALS

Q: A tough match out there today, you lost last time you played Spears if I am correct - What was the key to winning today?

A: It was a tough match and I was definitely ready for that. It was a difficult draw to face either Rachel or Ruflina in a second round match, so I am relieved I was able to play a good level of tennis today and pull it out in 3 sets.

Q: You reached the final here last year, did that put any pressure on you this week?

A: I just tried to gain inspiration from that coming here, I have good memories of last year's event so I am trying my best just to push myself to compete to my best abilities with each tournament and not think too much about what points to defend and such. You can't get too worked up or distracted by those things or you will lose it.

Q: You face Tiffani Eggert in quarterfinals now, a rematch of last year's final, a bit of an unfortunate draw there?

A: Yeah for sure, she's playing pretty well lately, she won the title at Eastbourne not long ago, and she has played well to make the quarters here. I think most players coming in as a defending champ may have let nerves get the better of them but she has shown that she is not phased by that given her 2 wins here already not to mention she has been in the media spotlight here with her circumstances with Tami. I think it will be a hard fought match as I am sure neither of us is keen on losing!

Q: Is it harder playing the veterans, or do you prefer playing them over the young guns?

A: You know it's hard to say, it really just depends on the circumstances of the match. Sometimes a young player is easier to play in a big match as they don't have the experience, while on the other hand sometimes harder because they have nothing to lose. With veterans you know their game better, but they know yours better too so it's really hard to say I would rather play a veteran before a newcomer or likewise.

Q: A disappointment in the doubles after a final last week?

A: Yeah, for sure it was a disappointing loss, we were basically just unlucky in that final set tiebreaker, you can never know what to expect at that point in a match and unfortunately we came up on the short end of the stick but it was a good match for me to just work on fine tuning a few things in my game that need extra practice with.

Q: Thanks Eva.

A: Thanks.

Spears ousted in the second round

Q. What happened just now?
Rachel Spears : Well, Eva is a great player.. I played well but she played even better. You know. I did some pretty good shots just now. However, against Eva, you need to be in really good form to beat.

Q. I think you beat her before.
Rachel Spears : *smiles* Well, she has definately stepped up her level today. She managed to win the crucial points. But it was a very close match. The third set was unbelievable.

Q. What are your feelings?
Rachel Spears : Well, it was pretty good overall. There are many great players playing this week. I beat Rufliana yesterday. I think that was pretty impressive though she was not in good form.

Q. What are your next tournament?
Rachel Spears : Hmm, next week I'll be heading to LA. I hope I'll get a better draw.

Q. WEll, good luck to you then.
Rachel Spears : Thanks

Spanish #1 player, Adriana González has reached the semis of The Acura Classic in San Diego after defeating Lindsay-Ann Sarile from Phillippinas in a straigh-sets match. The final score was 7-6(13) 7-6(6). "The first set was very hard, she had three set points but I was able to save them" told Adriana to our reporters. "The second one was a little easier, she didn't have any set point". There were no breaks in this match, but there were a lot of chances to get broken. "Anyway, the most important thing is the win, so I don't care about break points now. I just care of my next match against Monica". In other matches, Monica Gambill became next Adriana's opponent after defeating world #2 Marteena Huubere in straights. "Monica is very tough. I think she is a little weaker in hard, but well she is in the semis here so it's obvious that she's improved. She beat me in straights in Rome. I hope I can get revenge now". Adriana González is playing her best season in tennis. She's got to the final at Paris, and the semifinals at Canberra, Antwerp, Miami, Rome and now San Diego. Now she's reached her highest ranking at #7, but she could even improve that this week. Asked about who was the favourite for this tournament Adriana told: "I don't like to answer to that, because I'm still playing in the tournament, and for me I should be the favourite, because it's like losing a match before playing it. Anyway, the best player outhere is Larisa, but any of us could win the trophy. I hope to be that one *laughing*".

SORRENTA PULLS OFF UPSET - MOVES INTO FINAL

Q: Eva, a very close third set, you started so well and then you seemed to lose some focus in the second set - Were you feeling nervous today?

A: It was a very interesting match with many momentum changes. I did start the match well, I told myself today to just really go for my shots and I started that well. I think in the second set I started to think about it a bit too much and was a bit tentative, and Larisa saw that and pressured me even more by taking control of the points more. In the third I fought really hard and it was a great mental test for me to win against a player I have struggled against before.

Q: Did you think about the head to head? It's been a long time since you've beaten her?

A: I think at one point yes I did think about it, but I tried hard not to. I had only beaten her in singles on the tour once before in Leipzig, so I knew that I had the ability to win, but Larisa is playing so well on hardcourts this year that I knew I would have to really raise my game up to another level.

Q: After this win, surely it's not going to be any easier mentally for the final against Gonzalez?

A: Oh definitely the final will be just as hard for me. It took a lot of energy to beat Ferrer, and Adriana is a great player who has a game style that can give me a lot of problems if I am not playing at my best. I know she will be very eager to win her first singles title of this season, especially a tier 2, but of course I am happy to defend my final, and I hope that I can play even better tomorrow and make it one step better this time.

Q: Thanks Eva.

A: Thanks.

MONICA GAMBILL OUT IN SEMIS

Monica Gambill lost her semi final singles match to Adrianna Gonzalez after a three set clash with a high standard of tennis.Gonzalez triumphed 6-3 1-6 6-3.
'It was a tough match she played so well. She got off to such a good start that i was always playing catch up.I played a great second set and started to dominate the play her level draopped a bit aswell. At 3all in the third she just seemed to raise her level but shes a top 10 player and at the moment on a hardcourt she has one more gear than me.'
'Its been a great week with 3 great wins.I'm very confident now and i hope i continue with the good form into the US open.I was in the semis in doubles aswell me and Dorissya had a tough 7-5 in the third loss but we lad a lot of fun this week.I'm sure we'll play with each other in the future'

Adriana González moved into her fourth final of the year after reaching the ones in Paris, Surbiton and Bastad, winning the last two. Last night, the Spanish player beat British Monica Gambill in three sets. "I'm very happy to be in a final again. It's very nice. It was a good match. I dominated the first set, she dominated the second and in the third we were tied, but I got an early break with 4-3 and that was definitive" Adriana will now face Eva Sorrenta from Canada. "This is my second FWT Tour final against a Canadian. I lost the first one very easily but I hope to change that result now. I'm also want to win this match. I want revenge from the Fed Cup *laughing*. No, it's a joke. Eva and I get along very well, and a win on this tournament would be very appreciated by each one. I hadn't won a main draw in a month and my confidence was starting to get low, and it would be also very nice for her after all the things that Anjelica did to her" Adriana is going to play Los Angeles and Toronto next week. She was also scheduled to play New Haven but she might pull out "Well, this final wasn't on my plans *laughing*. Siex weeks in a row is too much. I should rest that week". If I win I should be climbing to the 6th or 5th position in the rankings. It would be very nice, my career high".

Adriana González won the second FWTT title of her career after defeating Eva Sorrenta with a double 7-6.
"It's been such a good season for me, I mean, I've been a little bit up and down, but I've got some very good results that make this season worthy".It was a very tiring match, with many chances for each player, "I was down 2-5 in the first set, but after that I think I calmed down. I won the tie break and got a 4-1 lead in the second. After that I think I got nervous again, since she managed to serve for the set, but I could break her then". It's the second title of her career, after winning in Canberra the last year. "Of course this is a very good one, in fact it was the best week of my career. Both titles are special, because they both came when I was a lil down mentally. I don't know If i'll retire this season. I don't think so. My sister wanted to get pro after I retire, because she didn't like a lot playing against me, because she's my sister, but I'll make her wait one or two more years. *laughing*". Adriana could climb to her best ranking ever, because she had chances of being number 5 of the world had she won this tournament, and she did so. "It's like, I don't care a lot about rankings, I just care about to play good and win the more matches I can" She was scheduled to play until the U.S.Open. "That won't be possible now. I will withdraw from New Haven. I've played Stanford, San Diego and the WTT at the same time. I will play Los Angeles and Toronto and I'll rest in New Haven, because I'd like to get a good result at the US Open. After that, I'll go home to get some resting, and I'll play in Europe". Adriana González is the current ninth player of the world and these are her results so far this year:

W-San Diego, Surbiton, Bastad
F-Paris
SF-Canberra, Antwerp, Miami, Rome
QF-Dubai, Acapulco, Madrid
