I really hope Alina can win this match...I feel like I've been waiting for years for a lucky break for her and maybe this is finally it. She can play, but has a really bad history of terrible draws. Beat Jul 23rd, 2003, 08:14 AM congrats MGM, francesca and alina!! :D Tennisfan-Mtl Jul 23rd, 2003, 12:45 PM Teryn :( Experimentee Jul 23rd, 2003, 12:51 PM Alex :) but it shouldnt have been that tough! jojoseph Jul 23rd, 2003, 03:13 PM Francesca SCHIAVONE d. Jill CRAYBAS 6-3, 6-1 missed it Marie-Gaianeh MIKAELIAN d. Julia VAKULENKO 6-1, 6-2 Mikaelian is really good. I missed the first set, was taking pics on the practice court, but Vakulenko apparently injured her wrist slightly around the time I showed up in the beginning of the second and called for a trainer. She taped it up and worked on it for the rest of the match. Maria VENTO-KABCHI d. Nadia PETROVA 6-1, 7-6 (4) Kabchi has a lot of power. She's gotten a whole lot better than when I saw her last year. And she has great accuracy on the run. That is a great asset. As the score states, the second set was close. Nadia called for a trainer, but it didn't appear to be anything serious. Alina JIDKOVA d. Sarah TAYLOR 6-1, 6-4 I like watching Jidkova play for some reason. She has a cool game. This match was actually a lot closer than the score dictates. One of those, most games were close, kinda match. Amber LIU d. Tara SNYDER 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 Everyone and their mom were rooting for Amber. It's prolly no wonder. :) She started off very shaky, but got her stuff together. It's amazing that she's able to generate so much power. But she has great footwork and fundamentals and since she makes sure her feet are off the ground, she's able to dictate a lot of points. Eleni DANIILIDOU/Rita GRANDE d. Jill CRAYBAS/Mashona WASHINGTON 6-1, 6-2 missed it Cara BLACK/Lisa RAYMOND d. Kim GRANT/Maria VENTO-KABCHI 6-4, 6-3 Not much to say here, Good team vs Not so good team. Yoon Jeong CHO/Francesca SCHIAVONE d. Amy FRAZIER/Elizabeth SCHMIDT, 6-2, 7-6 (1) Schmidt was the weakest link here. NIGHT SESSION CAPRIATI/HANTUCHOVA d. AUGUSTUS/EMBRY 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 For some reason, the theme song from "Wonderwoman" applies here. I have a greater amount of respect for Jen. She totally and singlehandedly took control of this match. Dani played really bad. She seems so unsure of herself out there. It's cool 'cause she knew it too. A lot of times, when Dani should have went for a shot that was hers, Jen had to get it for her, and she was say sorry to Jen, but Jen made sure to tell her that it was alright. Jen is really a class act. The only thing is that she has to play today at 12:00 and I hope that all of the running around she was doing doesn't affect her play today. Man, she played great though, great first time outing for her here. Alexandra STEVENSON d. Teryn ASHLEY 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-1 Teryn and her Jedi tricks didn't work on Alex. I left after the first set, but it just looks like it was a continuation of the first set. Alex just had too much power for Ashley. She played really well and her serve was on. I'd like very much someday to see Alex not lose her cool and look like she's ready to complain about everything. She could really do so much better. Ashley is a good player. Task Jul 23rd, 2003, 03:16 PM Teryn   But a great first set in what was expected to be a straight set loss. Now here's hoping for a Jidkova win. A quarterfinal place would be a heck of a comeback for a lucky loser. polishprodigy Jul 23rd, 2003, 03:52 PM Teryn :( Beat Jul 23rd, 2003, 04:02 PM thanks joseph for the report! :) | |
