Amanda Augustus (USA) d. Christina Fusano (USA), 6-4, 1-6, 6-3

The only reason that was close was because they play at Cal together.

I'm not even showing up tomorrow.

At least I got to see Dewonder

Seriously!! Pods is playing under the Russian flag?!?! My friend is one of her hitting partners in Berkeley and I thought she was representing USA. Oh well.

I hope she does well! She's very talented and I want my friend to be able to continue being employed by her! :p

Nah, it was because they're both doubles players not singles players. They had so much room on the court that they didn't know what to do ;)

Amanda no longer goes to Cal but did win the NCAA's two times for Cal and Christina goes there now and won the NCAA's this year. It was close because Amanda is coming off of a arm injury and this is only her second tournament back in singles. Yes she is stronger in doubs but lost lots of points in singles while out on her injury and it's hard to get back in both. So this was a good mental win for Amanda.

Christina no longer goes to Cal she graduated this year. I'm familiar with the Cal girls, I go there ;) It was a good win for Amanda yes, especially after losing that second set. She called for a bathroom break ;)

Thanks I'm not familar with christina as she went there after amanda.
But, it's nice to see that she won especially when she still can't serve 100%.
and hasn't played much singles in the last several months.
Would have been interesting to see her play to see if she's even close to the same player she was at Cal and last year? It shouldn't have been so close because Amanda should have been the stronger player.. but that's why it was more of a mental match.
Amanda got a walk over for tomorrow so doesn't play until the next day.

In the world rankings, Podkolzina is now down as Russian too. A surprising decision, especially as she actually played in the USA team at Maureen Connolly Cup in Bournemouth, GB last September.

Lol, what a crappy draw. Polish players should have come here! ;)

Dewonder got 1pt for losing 6-0 6-0 lol, definitely worth it for her and she knows it!

BEst of luck to Diana, please qualify!
The same for Mashona, Marissa and Gabriela.

I don't think you get bonus points when a player withdraw before the match has started.
Yes a lucky week for amanda, lets hope she can capitalize on it and get her mental
game back.. and the bonus points, she needs them. Hope the draw is as good in doubles.

You don't get bonus points when your opponent withdraws BEFORE the match.
