Serena backs out of Rogers AT&T Cup

Serena Williams will not participate in this year's Rogers AT&T Cup due to scheduling conflicts with an upcoming movie shoot.

Even without the Wimbledon champion, this year's field remains a star-studded one. Eighteen of the world's top-20 ranked players are slated to compete, including Serena's sister Venus, who is No. 4 in the female rankings.

The begins Aug. 9 at the National Tennis Centre. Also taking part will be Belgium's Kim Clijsters and French Open champion Justine Henin-Hardenne, ranked No. 2 and No. 3 in the world, respectively.

More to follow.

Not sure if this is good or bad for Serena. Obviously making another movie is great--can't wait for her to win the Oscar  --but not at the expensive of her tennis.
