It's the same as singles...

If you have 103 in singles and your partner has 103 too, you have a total of 206. But I prefer when people send the average of the two players points. Like if you have 103 and your partner has 101, your doubles points are out of 102.

Morkovina; confident like no other!

Reuteurs

When people are asked what player is from Belarus, it's without hesitating that they answer 98% of the time, Larissa Liashenko. Yes, Liashenko, the 19 year old from Minsk has been ranked as high as 8 and has won 5 career titles as well as the 2001 junior French Open. But comming back from career-threatning injury, Liashenko is no factor to win titles these days.

There is also another Belarussian that made an impact at Wimbledon this year. She won the girls title and it was her 3rd career junior grand slam win. Her name? Dorissya Morkovina. You don't know her? Listen well, her grunt is like no other. Her game is like no other. And her Morkattitude is . With wins over Valentine and Liashenko, Morkovina is a confident 14 year old girl.

Question: Dorissya, thanks for sharing some of you time with us!

Morkovina: No problem! I really like doing interviews.

Question: Since comming to the junior tour in 2002, you have really came up fast. Are you surprised?

Morkovina: Why should I be surprised? I know I have the game to beat anybody out there, whether it's Ferrer or anybody. At the start of my career, I was nervous and I wasn't playing my game at all. I was just hitting with the other girls and most of the time, I would make the error. But after talking with Larissa in Fed Cup, she convinced me to go for my shots and in that week-end, I beat both Selima Valentine and Sabine Graf. Since then I've dominated the junior tour winning the last 3 out of 4 Grand Slams.

Question: So you basicly try to hit the lines of every shot?

Morkovina: You've got that right! I don't try to hit one line, I try to hit both of them every time. And the other girls feel really intimidated my me so they don't do what they would do against another player.

Question: What is the key to beating you?

Morkovina: I have to play bad. If I play well, I don't think I can be beat. I know that sounds arrogant, but I truely feel that way.

Question: You are playing Stanford this week. How do you feel about that?

Morkovina: I'm so happy to be back on hardcourt. It's by far my best surface and winning the 2002 US Open and 2003 Australian Open junior titles shows that. I have won a lot of events on that surface.

Question: Still playing with Anastasia in doubles?

Morkovina: Of course. When something is working, you don't change it. We play well together, so why change it?

Question: Yeah, I guess so! Thanks for your time!

Morkovina: My pleasure!

Tatjana Vukasinovic in action against Izabela Klos

Promising Croatian Tatjana Vukasinovic continues to struggle on the FWTT Junior tour, with yet another 1st round loss. Vukasinovic lost a tight three-set match against Izabela Klos.
''I felt I did have some chances in that match, particulary in the second set. But Izabela played really well on the important points and that was one of the major differences.
I'm really dissappointed to lose in the first round here, I gave myself a good chance to really progress far and play good tennis here. But today Izabela played better. She definitly has potential, perhaps with more experience will see her mature into an even better player'' Tatjana said after her 4-6 7-5 7-5 loss.

Tatjana's focus now shifts to the doubles. She and good friend Jacquelyn Whitten are seeded fourth and open their campaign against Lena Shulai and Sophie Gambill.

Tulyaganova Overcomes Diana Mahler For 1st Quarterfinal Appearance!

Venus Tulyaganova has been waiting to win a breakthrough match against a top player, and she's finally done it. In the Round Of 16 of the Bank Of The West Classic, Venus overcame nerves, heat, and her opponent, (2)Diana Mahler 6-3,7-6(1)! Tulyaganova came out with a game plan, and executed it from the start. She used her tall frame to overpower Mahler. Venus hit her pwerfuly groundstrokes corner to corner. Venus was playing so well, she was leading 6-3,5-3 when her nerves started to kick in. A few double faults and errors later, she found herself in a Tiebreak. Tulyaganova knew she had to pick up her level to where it was, and she did just that. She hit 5 Winners, and 2 Aces in the Tiebreak, including an ance on Matchpoint that was 129 MPH. After the match, Venus was overcome with emotion, and pumped her fist to her coach in triumph, because she advanced to the Quarterfinals of an event for the 1st Time.

"I'm so excited right now, I can hardly speak. I've been training so hard for this moment, and now that it's here, I don't believe it. I've struggled so much on this tour, and I'd really like to get things rolling. I really hope I can win maybe 1 more match, I don't want to go home just yet..."

SOPHIE GAMBILL CONTEMPLATES GOING BACK TO SCHOOL

Sophie Gambill is wondering tonight whether tennis is for her or should she return to school and try to achieve her dream carrer in medcine.
'I'm really not enjoying tennis. It was fun playing wimbledon and birmingham but they were my best matches ever by a long way and i still couldn't win. I just don't think i'm good enough to make it big i've been on the tour for 8 months now and i think after the US open i will quit and let another british girl have the chance.I was only offered as my twin sister died. She was so much better than me as the fact that she won junior roland garros 2002 showed'

Rumors are emerging that Lena Keothavong will be joining the FWTT junior tour.Lena 14 from Mold,North Wales was Welsh under 18 champ at age 13 and is the current british under 15 champion which she won last agaust aged 13.She is hot favourite to pick up the british under 18 championships this year!

Venus Tulyaganova's Amazing Run Finally Ends!
American Falls 7-6(1),1-6,6-2 to Fridorzally Hingisafrilia

http://www.clarence.com/contents/sport/speciali/010126tennis/images/m06.jpg

Venus Tulyaganova was having the best week of her FWTT Career. She was in her 1st Quarterfinals and everything seemed to be going great. That is before she played Fridorzally Hingisafrilia. Both girls came out firing, smacking winner after winner to send the 1st Set to a Tiebreak. Hingisafrilia'a experience helped her win the Tiebreak wasily 7-1, while a shaky Tulyaganova made errors. In the 2nd Set, Venus relaxed and let her groundstrokes do the talking. She took the 2nd Set 6-1 and seemed to be on the road to victory. But Fridorzally wouldn't have it. She stepped up her game as Tulyaganova retreated to her errors again. Hingisafrilia closed out the 3 Hour Match, 7-6(1),1-6,6-2.

"I'm happy that I had a good week. I could've played better in the Quarterfinals, but what can you do? I won more matches then I lost and I beat the #2 Seed, so hopefully, I can continue this success, and start winning more consistently."

The second set saw Larouche hitting her spots before comming to net where she ended the point 95% of the time! In the third set, the fans saw a lot of momentum swings. In the end, Hingisafrilia forced the error to reach the final of the junior Bank of the West Classic.
