I think both team are equal.
Indonesia will play Angie and Wynne both single and double, while Germany will play Anca/Ritner and Marlene in single and Ritner/Muller in double.

I hope Indonesia can win this match, may the final score 3-2 for Indonesia...

5-0 indonesia

Terima kasih, mate!! ;) IMO, 3-2 is reasonable for Indonesia or even worst, we lost 2-3!!! Win or lose is okay, as long as our players fight it out hard...It is such privilege to watch Angie and Wynne to play on homecourt since we hardly watch them live!!! :bounce:

PELTI/Indonesian Lawn Tennis Association just added junior player, Septi Mende to be in the squad...The criteria is just based on her progress so far...That simple? At least, Suzanna cannot play anymore...She can play dubs with Martina in the case of emergency...What a scary thought!!! :fiery: :fiery: :fiery:

so the double Indonesia will win for sure

Anca is better than Wynne and Angie

but Angie and Wynne are better than Marlene, Martina or Barbara

so I think 3-2 or 4-1 Indonesia

sorry neighbours ;)

I think, realistically Germany has 55-45 chance to win against Indonesia! ;) Indonesia may have the advantage as hosting country but it could be "boomerang" as Angie and Wynne are having the pressure and burden after more than 2 years are not used to play on homesoil in front of possibly very very rowdy and unpleasant local fans...Indonesian fans can be really mean to their own players!!! :fiery:  Yes, Angie and Wynne are in their slump right now - as for Angie, maybe she is going through "to be mature" process since it is her first year as senior...she faces all these walls and mostly she is stuck in 2nd round but on the other hand, um sure she has learned a lot of all these tough matches she had until now! Wynne has stated in the news that she asks the local spectators to keep cheering on their players even if they make mistakes... :D

Look at the unbalanced fact!

Germany: Anca Barna (WTA 62), Weingartner (63), Rittner (89), Roesch (107), Schruff (116) - yup, Anca & Marlene are better than Angie and all these names are better than Wynne!

Indonesia: Angie (73), Wynne (133), Sandy Gumulya (1057), Septi Mende (No Ranking) :o

It is interesting that Angie has never played any German player in singles, while Wynne win-lose record 10-3 against German players! :bounce:

Tashkent 2000 1R def. Karin Schwendt 64 60 - honestly, um not sure...Is Karin German player? um sorry, my memory is hang... :o

Pattaya 2000 Q1 lost to Angelika Bachmann 63 36 46 :(

Gold Coast 2001 Q3 def. Bianka Lamade 76(7) 46 62

Canberra 2001 Q2 def. Greta Arn 64 63

Indian Wells 2001 Q1 lost to Andrea Glass 36 46 :(

FO 2001 Q2 def. Vanessa Henke 64 62

San Diego 2001 Q1 def. Vanessa Henke 35 64 62

Canadian Open 2001 Q1 def. Anca Barna 62 26 63

USO 2001 1R def. (LL) Greta Arn 61 60

Sydney 2002 Q1 lost to (4) Marlene Weingartner 61 36 16 :(

FO 2002 1R def. Anca Barna 16 75 61

Stanford 2002 Q2 def. Vanessa Henke 61 63

Indian Wells 2003 Q1 def. Jana Kandarr 62 76(4)

Wimby 2003 Q1 def. Nina Duebbers 26 75 63

Also it is interesting that Wynne has partnered with Rittner in New Haven 2001 and in 1R, they won over Rita Grande/Karina Habsudova 64 62! :wavey:

Anyhow, let's turn around this 55-45 chance to win in the favor of INDONESIA - Angie & Wynne! Bravo!!!

Yay...we have Angie and Angy in next week play off of FC! ;)

Hi, Erikson...um not really an expert... it is just based on my own opinion...I think, Angy deserves the spot in this FC team since she is ranked 107 currently...it means no 4 after Anca, marlene and Barbara...

Angy's highest ranking ever was 69...better than Wynne's highest at 74! :D

She has been on the tour since 1996...She has defeated Dementieva 3 times when Alyona was still inside top 20s...And finally, Alyona's nightmare ended at Wimby recently when she knocked down Angy 62 61! :)

Angy's career win loss record 33-46 and this year she is 4-17!

On hard court, she has 19-21 career win loss record...It is maybe the reason why she is picked to be a member of German squad!

So, welcome to Jakarta on July 13th and enjoy ur stay at one of the best hotels in town - JW Marriot...Good choice!

Yes, Sandy Gumulya is 17 years old and when she was chosen in this Fed Cup earlier of the year, it created controversy since the Indonesian Tennis Association did not let more experienced players like Liza Andriyani & Wukirasih Sawondari to be considered. Last April in Tokyo, Sandy got the taste of playing dubs with Suzanna - Wynne's coach - when they won against Malaysian pair! Let us all pray for the best physical condition for Angie & Wynne...Sandy is really not ready at all for this senior level! :p

My prediction for German team's line-up:

singles - Anca Barna and Barbara Rittner

dubs - Barbara Rittner/Angelika "Angy or Micky" Roesch

or

singles - Anca Barna and Angelika Roesch (knowing that Angy has defeated Elena Dementieva 3 times! )

dubs - Barbara Rittner/Angelika Roesch

Allez, Deutschland!!! :D

BTW, I cannot find profile of Vanessa Henke...how old is she? I knew she began pro in 1999 - her career win loss 41-53, career on hard 16-22 and for 2003 7-12 and on hard 5-5...maybe that's why she is picked!

I had heard news from ANTV that German still hope that Marlene Weitgartner could come and join German FED Cup team. This could be good news or bad news.

The good news is that I really eager to watch Marlene playing tennis. I think she's the most dangerous german players at this moment, so the bad one is the chance for INA to win this match will decrease..

"The Germans keep their tight lips" :tape: :p

About the players' formation

JAKARTA - Tightening lip - it is what the German Fed Cup has been doing. It is being done so that Indonesian team will not get any info about the players' formation for World Group play off this week-end at "Gelora Bung Karno" Outdoor Tennis Stadium.

Maybe, such act is being done as sign of being worried towards the strength force of Indonesian team. Evenmore, this match is very crucial for Germany to retain their position in the World Group. If Germany loses, they have to struggle again in qualifying zone.

"I am still checking on the latest condition of our players. Whoever is ready, she will be playing," expressed by Klaus Everhard, the German team's non-playing captain when he was giving the practice to the players.

He added that his team formation will be openly informed at drawing session which will be held at "Menara Peninsula" Hotel, tomorrow evening. "Please, be patient. Certainly, you will know who the players are for the match," as he sounded avoiding.

Even so, the German team is keeping their secret. Especially with the absence of their number 2 player, Marlene Weingartner.

Since a few days ago, as it was mentioned in the official website of Germany Tennis Association, www.dtb-tennis.de, Klaus Eberhard said that Weingartner would not come along since she is ill. But then, as a matter of fact, Klaus corrected it that this 62nd ranking of WTA will come later on.

In the website, Klaus also stated that Weingartner's place is substituted by Vanessa Henke. It was the fact that when they arrived in Indonesia last Sunday, the German team only consisted of Anca Barna, Barbara Rittner, Angelika Roesch, dan Vanessa Henke. But yesterday, Klaus informed that Weingartner has arrived in Jakarta. It is really puzzling for the Indonesian team.

Meanwhile, from the official website of fedcup.com, it says that Weingartner is not coming along. Based on the rules, the valid player's name is the one which has been submitted to ITF 10 days prior to the actual match.

The German team has practiced on the new hard court. They said that they have no problem with the court. They also have no problem with the heat in Jakarta. "Being 2 days in Jakarta, it has made us to adjust well. We have no problem with the heat here," Klaus said after he drilled his players. "At the first time when we arrived, we were shocked. Our faces got very red and we had so much sweat, but now not anymore," he added it.

In yesterday's practice, there were only 2 players, Anca Barna and Barbara Rittner. They were very serious in their practice given by Klaus. "We did serve practice since we know that Indonesian player's first serve is not that good. Therefore, we would take this advantage as much as possible," Klaus explained.

He also said that he is not bothered with fanatic support from the local spectators. "That's just common. Anywhere you go, local spectators will always support their own team as long as they do it in a fair way, so it is not a problem," Klaus said it firmly.

Yeach, it is gonna be very very hot frying pan in Senayan!!! :fiery:  :fiery:   :wavey:

I Hope Indonesia will take this first 2 matches and that will make them more comfortable in the second day....

I'm pretty sure Angie will be able to beat Rittner but Wynne vs Barna, I think the chance is 50-50 given that Wynne's performance is not too good lately but on the other hand, Wynne def Barna twice and she'll play in front of her own public.

So I think it will be either 1-1 or 2-0 for Indonesia...

Like I have said in Angie's site, that if Indonesia will be able to lead 3-0 first, I think it will be better to give the other 2 matches to Juniors (Gumulya and Mende), so they will have the chance to play against the players in Top 100 and that will be a valueable experience for both of them....

I Hope Indonesia will win.... :bounce:

Thanks for all the Indonesian support in here. I think you only see what you WANT to see.

Prakusya is no way able to beat Anca or Rittner in their current form and all the 4-1 talk and whatever is just based on nationalism not on realism.

You might win the tie and I even won´t give a tip in here, but your players are -so far- no super stars to beat and though Widjaja is hot in the future, I doubt Babsi Rittner will loose.

So now my prediciton 4-1 for GERMANY!!!!

The German girls will do everything to win this tie. I was in Ettenheim and saw the German team. Anca played a fantastic match against Daniela, but then rain came and she lost her confidence. Same with Marlene she was up 5-2 in the tiebreak, had the chance to volley it out. But then her nerves came and she lost it. The match against Cervanova was terrible, Marlene was tired.

But then her nerves came and she lost it.

And that's the point Kris. Everytime our players are forced to bring it to an end they lose nerves. Their lack of self-confidence will crack their back-bone.
I hope they'll do their best to surprise me in that point but I doubt that ... :o

Rittner will win against Prakusya
Rittner won´t win against Widjaja

Barna will win against Prakusya
Barna will win against Widjaja

and that will be 3-1 for Germany

In doubles, Germany will win due to Indonesia testing juniors.

4-1 for Germany.

TBE, we knew that ;) I think the doubles is changable till right before the match and no way Henke/Roesch will team in that. I think Henke/Rittner would be the choice, but can anybody confirm wether or not Marlene is in Indonesia and wether or not she´s on the list to replace someone in a match.

Thanks for all the Indonesian support in here. I think you only see what you WANT to see.

Prakusya is no way able to beat Anca or Rittner in their current form and all the 4-1 talk and whatever is just based on nationalism not on realism.

You might win the tie and I even won´t give a tip in here, but your players are -so far- no super stars to beat and though Widjaja is hot in the future, I doubt Babsi Rittner will loose.

well.. you have your own prediction as we have ours...

Hey, Chris...Um not chicken as you may think...I just got home after a traffic jam near the stadium and I live far away from central Jakarta...even I live in different state!!! ;) We are not afraid, Chris...First of all, German crazy fans...congrats to ur German team...anyhow, they had to work hard to lead 2-0! The weather was friendly to the Germans...overcast! :wavey: The heat was not so hot then! :D

I have always been conservative about the final results - 3-2 either for Germany or Indonesia...

Angie was tensed since she was under pressure to level up the match. Angie needs to play variative game against Barna plus really focus and be patient!!!

Match report:
Wynne Prakusya vs Anca Barna

Honestly, Wynne was playing better than Angie today. In 1st set, she was a bit nervous but she was able to handle it with good patience of those Barna's top spins. Wynne was quite focused with some variative strokes and she was lucky since Anca made a number of UEs along with Anca's lack of patience and being emotional. Wynne was better mentally in 1st set and she could cover her lack in backhand by placing quite tricky balls and then she closed it with her FH winners.

Unfortunately in 2nd set, Wynne lost her focus big time and she was simply sloppy. She let Anca to find her own game and overpowered her. I think, Wynne is actually a smarter player than Anca! By losing with bagel may have affected her mental. It kept on going then in final set when she kept losing again and she made more UEs. After losing 2-5, Wynne gained back her own rigorous game by her good return services and kept the ball in play which resulted in accurate FH winners. Too bad, Wynne hit the ball into the net after she tried to hit a dropshot in 10th game. Such point recharged Anca to regain her confidence and she could overpower Wynne to win first lead for German team! I have to admit, Wynne was playing fiercely and she showed us that she has top 100s' quality. She is truly a fighter! Good fight Wynne and congrats Anca for closing the H to H gap! :wavey:

Angie Vs Barbara Rittner.

I was dissapointed with Angie's performance today. She entered the match with lack of mental toughness. Her 1st serve was too easy and even she made DF on her 1st game! :( I have to admit that Rittner played very smart game with such accurate angles and she dictated Angie despite of those fast and hard FHs of Angie. Rittner was simply returning any strokes Angie hit. Angie played quite a boring game and she could only use her power either to left or right side of Rittner's area but Rittner was smart to anticipate all these. Rittner had good speed and with quite good reaction and she played more variative games with effective drop volley, slices and drop shots. Rittner simply outclassed Angie with lher long experience on the tour!

I was also upset with the local lines men who were afraid to call "OUT" when German player's ball was really "OUT!" It made Angie's mental went down badly! Rittner played with accurate angles, her flat FH along with her slices to ruin Angie's game...Angie was tensed and that's why she lost easily along some bad calls by our local and stupid lines men!!! :( In terms of power, Angie is harder than Rittner...I am quite impressed actually with her imropvement in this... :) but as I said that Rittner played effectively and she was smarter!

IMO, Anca and Babsi are both good players but Anca is more emotional and she has more power than Ritttner...again Rittner plays calmly and she is playing smart! :bounce:

Babsi was like "Berlin Wall" today...yup, before BW fell down... ;) Wynne is still lacking in her serve and backhand so I believe Barbara will attack Wynne's BH side tomorrow...but I believe that mentally she is tough...Wynne is truly a fighter and I wish her all the best...Angie needs to regroups herself and she needs to return to her own game with variative strokes...Angie has no weapon like Basuki...She has improved IMO, but she still has a lot of homework to do...I heard that she is going to a training camp after San Diego...Good for her! For both Wynne and Angie...please, girls...cut your UEs for heaven's sake!

All the best to Indonesian players as well as German players! :wavey:

Sorry, fans for my so so my English...English is my 3rd language!

Yup, I got there very early and it was quite hot at 10.30 AM... :fiery: I saw Anca was practicing on the outside court...Man, the parking lot was full of cars! I met and said hello to Angie's parents...I made appointment with a bunch of fans from wtaworld posters as well as regular posters in angeliquewidjaja.com

Some of us including me, we were wearing T shirt of Angie's fans club...I wore my red and white baseball cap...it is our flag colors! With around 15 fans - we were sitting together in VIP section - V-ery I-nsane P-eople - LOL... :p Being in VIP section, we were served tea, coffee, water...and food! Chinese dumplings with hot sauce along with beef noodle soup...and many more!

The atmosphere was awesome after so many years! Angie's friends from her tennis club in Bandung came all the way by riding a chartered bus...Fans came all the way from far away islands...you know Indonesia is as big as all Western Europe with 3 different time zones! It began with opening ceremony by intorducing both teams as well as today's umpires along with ITF officials and even His Excellency German Ambassador and his wife were in VVIP section! :D

Then, the flags hoisting ceremony along with listening to both national anthems! Local TV 7 was broadcasting live as appointed by ITF and former national player Yayuk Basuki was the commentator...There was also a marching band as well as dance group performing before the actual matches. I met Liza Adriyani and a bunch of junior players...Liza said to me that she is playing 10Ks in Thailand next month...

It was a truly dissapointing day for us Indonesian fans...hey, congrats to German fans...I believe only the better team will be the winner! Auf wiedersehn...is it correct? What ever the results...I am supporting my Indonesian team... :wavey: When I am feeling blue...all I have to do...dududu... but, tomorrow is another day for fight...Go, Indonesia and do whatever it takes...show ur best game...not just playing the game! :wavey:

She actually had it going when she won 6-2, all the ppl thought that she's going to win the third as Rittner was already not in the spirit in winning. But then, she ended up nervous, making too many unforced errors and doubles faults. Ritter was simply more experienced ;) Kudos to Rittner

First of all, as I have predicted 3-2 could go to either Germany or Indonesia and after all Germany won 3-2! Congrats to German team to retain ur position in WG...IMO, Anca is not deserved to be no 1 player in Germany...Definitely experienced Babsi is the one...This week-end, Babsi has taught a lesson to both German players as well as Indonesian players how you played effectively and smart at the same time! Congrats, Babsi and Anca, Angy as well as Vanessa! ;) Experience does matter!

I arrived there half an hour earlier and gee, it was packed of cars already! I was surprised that the local fans were still returning to the match despite of Indonesian team's losing condition. I believe that it was due to this big event itself...Local fans have been longing for such big event in Jakarta especially to watch Angie & Wynne who hardly stay in Indonesia unless they play Wismilak in Bali!

I was again with a bunch of V-ery I-nsane P--eople from Angie's Fans Club or some regular posters from here wtaworld such as Amri, Toto from Bandung, Setio, Niki, Erikson, Rino of Bandung (SteveG...u know her from Australian Open?), Nadia from Singapore, Firman, Andre, Dheva, Ewing, Jhon from West Nusatenggara - east of Bali (only 13 yo boy), Zaki, Aldo, Syaiful, 4 Bandung dudes - Woyo, Yan, Oki, Daniel...we were just so happy to cheer on our beloved Indonesian team especially Angie...Again, at VIP section we could have some good food and drinks...

The weather was hot...But it was not really hot as it could have been...At the break, for entertainment, again we were watching Reza - one the Indonesian top female singers who has sexy voice and she sang old tune, "I will Survive" along with a couple of Indonesian songs...She was accompanied by Grasshopper band which played some oldies and top 40s...

Angie v Anca 63 61! :bounce:

I was concerned that Angie could face problem with this left-hand player such Anca...Angie came out to the court with high confidence...She was truly a different player than yesterday! She was out there hungry for a victory! :fiery: Angie was much better player than Anca definitely...Angie was so much in control over Anca with her solid groundstrokes...She showed that she played offensively from the beginning...She kept on attacking...Her BH was killing into Anca's right side...or left side sometimes...Angie was amazingly hit so hard with good winners down the line...On the other hand, Anca played erratically with some UEs and she was so emotional...Angie was playing smart and she reminded me of how Lindsay played at certain games...Well, Angie adores Lindsay! Her FH was quite dangerous, too but not yet like Basuki's...For improvement, IMO I would like Angie to work more on her serve, volley as well as footwork! Angie deserved such solid win over Anca! As I said before, Anca is no 1 in Germany based on her WTA ranking...but in terms of quality, I have to choose Babsi!!! I have nothing against Anca since I always like her and cheer on her whenever she plays on the tour...But if Anca stays this way, she will not be in top 50s...Look forward to seeing both Angie and Anca in another match!

Babsi v Wynne 64 26 63! :bounce:

Babsi deserved to be the most valuable player this week-end among these two countries' players...She really was an inspiration with her determination, mental toughness and how she played the game...Surprisingly enough, Wynne could give a fight to Babsi's game in the first set...It was a close match actually with long rallies...Wynne managed to play variative games and I was impressed with her improved BH...Wynne hit hard several times in difficult angle down the line!!! But again, her serve was too weak...Babsi was smarter...so she could close the 1st set out!

2nd set Wynne was in control with strong and accurate FH killer that she is famous for...In the middle of the set, Babsi had medical time and she had problem with her leg...It was affecting her movement but in final set, Babsi regrouped herself and she got pain killer I think that was able to eliminate the problem...Wynne kept on fighting but she got a leg problem as well and she asked for medical time...It was affecting her game then but Wynne kept on fighting till the end until Babsi ended the drama 6-3! The Germans were all jumping all around! The fans were giving standing ovation to both players who played so hard in 3 sets!!! :bounce: It was a bad luck for Wynne but she has shown that she is truly a fighter...Wynne cried so bad after the match but we all were satisified with her awesome performance...Sure, we were dissapointing with the final result but our players did their best and I am confident that only time will tell when we will return to WG!!! Again congrats to German team for their victory! :wavey:

After 15 minutes break, Wynne returned with Angie to play the last match in dubs against Roesch/Henke...Wynne had regroup herself and she regained her confidence...She was truly the star in this dubs' match...She played quite effectively with various strokes to create some winners...Angie did play well but she still needs to improve her ability as dubs player...Vanessa/Angelika had difficulty to level up with the Indonesian pair who hardly plays together on the tour as we all know...In this dubs' match, Angie hit so hard many times...She did hit very hard twice right on Henke's body and she said sorry and she covered her mouth with her hand...She felt so guilty...It was so cute to see Angie and Wynne played together...They wore such cool outfit...yellow! They were both so elegant especially Angie!!! ;) Sometimes she shouted to Wynne to take the ball and she used local expression which made the fans laughed...It was quite entertaining!!! It was great to watch duo A & W on the court for the first time in Jakarta!!! :wavey:

80% of the fans were still sitting and watching these players post the final match...Indonesian team went to congratulate the German team...It was such a friendly and sweet moment...They were all smiling as they like friends...They were taking pics together with ball boys and ball girls...Babsi and Wynne hugged each other and laughed together...Very sweet!  Well, Babsi and Wynne paired together at New Haven 2001! :D And again, Grasshopper band played the music...They played ABBA's old hit "Dancing Queen", Village People's "YMCA" and more songs like Queen's "We are the Champion"...Anca and the German team were dancing around in such jolly moment! :yippee: Martina Widjaja, the president of Indonesian Tennis Association also went down from her VVIP's seat and congratulated the German team...Well, good luck to the German team in WG and please German players...come to Bali Wismilak...and all the best to Angie and Wynne... :wavey:

IMO, Indonesia deserves to host 2004 Asia Oceania Group I qualifying round...It will be a great event! Um gonna write a petition to ITF, ATF and Pelti on behalf of so many crazy Indonesia fans!!! :)

Angie threw away several used balls with her signature to the fans...Angie and Wynne were busy to sign autograph to the fans since it was such a rare opportunity for us to see them live on court here in Jakarta!!! Some fans also asked for autographs of Anca and Babsi... :wavey:

What a week-end it was...the better team deserved to be the winner!!! Losing for Indonesia is only a delayed winning...I am confident that we will return to WG very soon!!! Go, Indonesian tennis!!! ;) :bounce:
