Will she still maintain her rank? Not sure how that "injury ranking" works... how long does she have to be off?Vee's abdominal strain seems more serious than thought...

good question, wish I had the answer... doesn't it have to be a significant amount of time off where she'll get a protected ranking?

trying to remember how long Lin-c was off, and maintained her rank...maybe this is what Richard really meant when he said the girls should take time off...

Why speculate when there is no concrete evidence of her injury being serious?? She's pulled out of the doubles, but she's signed up to play Fedcup.. We won't know until Venus speaks for herself.

isn't Fed Cup in September?

Fed cup's in July... 19th-21st.

I'm still worried about her, even if she hasn't spoken a word about the injury. People cope in different ways. :)

I think they have to be off the tour for around half a year to get protected ranking (from the moment they ask for it).

I have a tape from Acura 2001, semi-finals, Venus vs Lindsay. Venus needs to watch that match over and over again to see how she was serving, and how she was hitting her forehand. Even her motions seem different.

And also she needs to go back to her mindset of 2000/01 when she looked like she was out there for the fight! She should stop looking so apathetic and lost. Perhaps it is time to take time off like she did at the beginning of 2000. A sparse schedule wont help. She needs to go away, hire a good shrink, and work on that forehand and serve. In 2001 she was belting winners with that shot, and she did have tight matches, but she never quacked!

Did Venus look apathetic and lost at the A.O.? NO! Venus is one of the best fighters on the tour, but when you're injurred(unless your last name is GRAF) it's hard to block that out.

Venus plays the French w/an injury and people are already writing her off. I hope her opponents are too, she could use the easy victories.

right on, da forehand! it's good that she's going into things as an underdog. GO VENUS!

Venus only pulled out of doubles she is not withdrawing from anything?? Venus will play just like she did 3 weeks ago.

Maybe she doesnt want to play doubles at the moment and only wishes to focus on her singles game. Especially since she was hurt not more than 3 weeks ago.

robrich I think her strain is actually going to be feeling better it's just that she is taking it easy.:)
