View Full Version : Amanda Janes - Qualifier of the Week?

Jun 16th, 2003, 02:07 PM
Yes, its only a Brit on grass, but a pretty impressive performance from Amanda Janes, ranked 523, to qualify for Eastbourne this week:

QR1 d. M SERNA (ranked 27) 76 63
QR2 d. A CARGILL (90) 62 76
QR3 d. S REEVES (112) 60 57 63

Not bad, eh?

Does anyone know where she will be placed in the main draw? It'll either be Dokic, Likhovtseva or an all-qualifier match.

And what would this do for her ranking? The win against Serna alone should be do nicely for bonus points.

I think somebody said up to around 320ish - so far...

Keep going Amanda!

It has been a really good week for her so far, but at a small cost.

She has apparantly missed the sign in for quallies for Wimbledon so her wildcard will be given to someone else.

Still this is an amazing week and lets hope she can continue that little bit further.

yeh, 523 is amazing. my friend shadisha robinson got a WC into the family circle cup qualies and beat two players in the 100s to make it to the main. she was ranked 630!

Well Done Amanda! I hope she can win a round now she has qualified and sacrificed Wimbledon, but is that just wishful thinking? ;)

Well if Sharapova plays quallies for wimbledon surely the last WC for the maindraw will go to Amanda!

I think roughly she'll climb to 330.

She has been as high as 290 a few years ago but then she went to uni.Her greatest achievment before this was getting to the final round of quallies for wimbledon in 1998 i think it was.

Amanda will play fellow qualifier Amy Frazier in Round 1!

Good Luck Amanda :D You can do it ;)

M_R: Lets hope that Sharapova is in qualies then ;)

I'm surprised British fans are not more excited about Amanda. I mean when was the last time a British player beat two players in the top 100 back to back?

Bally in 2001 surbiton, eastbourne and she beat Coetzer at wimbledon 2002

I've been excited the whole year, expecting some good results but never any as good as this  :bounce: She is obviously much beter than I had anticipated, and considering she lost last week at Edgbaston, I would never have thought she were capable!
