i admire chanda rubin very much. she is such a classy tennis player, she cares about her own business and also trys to help others. i think she is one of the few players that don't have any enemies.. she is just so polite, and i would love to see her go even further in the rankings! she is very much like james blake on the mens side. they both handle controversy so well and have an extremely high amount of class!

She takes care of business and doesn't talk any smack. If she wins, she's gracious... if she loses, she's always very complimentary. It's nice to read her interviews when she is so nice to the opponent. Some could learn a lesson.

I don't think James is even near as polite as Chanda though, I caught some of his interviews on tv and he always looks not intrested, doing other stuff, never watches the interviewer in the eyes.
I think Chanda and Andre Agassi are very comparable.

Chanda is a great person, a very classy lady, if only others could even be half so lovely!! James is gorgeous, I have never seen any interviews with him so couldn't say anything about his personality. On court though he always conducts himself well I think. I like hime too.

I totally agree with that... Chandia is one of (possibly THE) classiest player on tour. Unlike some other players (Clijsters, for example) Rubin will acknowledge her defeat and give credit to her uponent. She is also nice off the court. I don't know if any of you guys know this, but you probably do, Chanda runs a foundation for children back in her hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana.

Let me (yes, yet again) post the related link (not technically for the foundation, which is part of another one, but "Shonda's" actual program): http://www.jstennis.com :)

Oh no! We all know how wrong it its for women to talk smach or be confident and aggressive, to say what they want to do and how they will do it! Noooooo thats so bad! Women should all be the same, they should all be like chanda and become Stepford Wives. Lets all dress like chanda and act like her because thats truly how all women should behave.

Clijsters ?

Doesn't Clijsters give credit to her opponent ?

Doesn't Clijsters acknowledge her defeat ?

What are you talking about ?

You cannot be serious (thanks, John McEnroe) !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm,, this thread is a little fishy to me.. It hasn't been said, but lurking beneath the surface is a poster who wishes Serena, and or Venus were more like sweety little go along to get along Chanda.

Would James have been mentioned if he called Lyetton on his racist comment?

I certainly see what your saying. I have to say when I saw this thread I thought 'yea thats how people want all (black) people to be like' But I dont think this is the case here. Chanda is just a great person who you almost can't help from loving and I definitely would not want Serena or Venus to be any different from the way they are, they are all amazing people! About James though, I think I would have handled the Lleyton incident differently, but thats how he chose to play it...........

The funny thing is, while Chanda is very gracious about her opponents in interviews, she's not exactly self-effacing, either, and in fact is very political and outspoken. For example, she boycotted Charleston over the confederate flag issue - in fact, it was that boycott that prompted reporters to ask Serena about the issue and I don't think Serena had even thought about it until then - and got her doubles partner, Sandrine Testud to do the same. She may not have the gift for self-promotion that some of her colleagues do (and I'm NOT saying self-promotion is bad), and her ranking may not encourage the media and the public to pay as much attention to what she says, but that doesn't mean she's sitting quietly in a corner, and it hardly makes her a "Stepford Wife."

I'm not sure which I find annoying - complimenting one person to make someone else look bad, or slagging someone to make someone else look good.

Chanda is really kool.

Last year, on all her on-court interviews at Eastbourne she was very gracious and just really bubbly.

I've never heard anyone say anything bad about Chanda. I think if she had a teeny bit more fire in her though, it would help her get her first Slam :)

If it's gonna happen I'd have to guess the A.O. would be her best chance.

Plus Chanda is very confident! If anyone would just ask her. I remember last year after she beat Serena, she and her coach mentioned how no one is taking her seriously when she was the one who beat Serena and no one was calling her a contender. I think people want to put a label on Chanda so they can compare and contrast her with certain other players but in reality they haven't paid a bit of attention to actually who Chanda is. Anyway that wasn't meant about anyone in this thread in particular.
