View Full Version : Another Thread for Karolina Sprem

I know there have been a ton of threads about Karolina, but I couldn't help adding another. I have become a great fan!

Karolina has really earned her ranking, the hard way, playing and winning the challenger events. Before she turned 18 last October, she could only play a limited schedule and she didn't get wildcards into any big events. She just gradually worked her way up with the tournaments her ranking would allow her to play. She hasn't played many main tour events, and she's had to qualify for most of them. (I think she has only received a wildcard into the Bol tournament in her home country of Croatia -- not sure though.) She must be in great shape judging from her match record -- many three set matches day after day. To me, Karolina's results are even more impressive than those of the other young players like Ashley H and Maria Sharapova, since Karolina hasn't had all of the hype and attention. I hope we will see a lot more of her in the coming months!

Go Karolina :)

Should be interesting to see how she copes with grass. She's never touched the stuff before. But she has had some great results on faster surfaces (Carpet, which I *know* is not grass...but it's the closest she's ever been). Plus, she has about 6-7 days of practice on the grass before her first EVER Slam match EVER. :) I'm sooooo excited for her.

cari.,...you could have seen her (though not very well) during the Vienna tournament, there was a live broadcast on the internet of the SF's and Final. (though it was very poor quality)

Anyway! Good Luck At Wimbledon Karolina! It's true that the only WTA wildcards she has gotten were at Bol....but she's never won a match there....in fcat her first main draw match win was this year at Strasbourg....and then went on to reach the final...and then the final of Vienna....Amazing! And this girls has won challengers on Indoor Harcourt tooooo, she will be pretty good in the post-USO season and perhaps during the summer American hardcourt season!
