You are little bit to obsessed with rankings, I guess.

Word to the wise : Never take IMMEDIATE results as if they're set in stone. Players go through slumps, get injured , etc. etc.

P.S. the clay season is over waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

Muhahahaha! Your wrong, clay season is not over! I've conspired with the Belgiums to make all American hardcourt tournies into clay! HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Rtael needs to get new medication, seems his or her treatment is doing any good. Consult your psychiatrist now.

1. How to define 'better'?

2. That doesn't even garantee you a better ranking

Kim may have 500 points more to defend then Justine but she had a bad summer in 2002 and has almost only points to gain untill the US-Open. And as you know, she is always one of the best players at the end of the year. She may lose some points in the last tournaments but I don't think that Justine will win The WTA-Championships together with 2 other tournaments after the US-Open. I give Kim a little more chance to be the best Belgian at the end of the year.

Even if Kim finishes the year ranked higher than Justine, it doesn't matter, because Justine has something that Kim doesn't have - a slam title. I would rather win a slam and finished ranked 10th than not and be ranked #1. (assuming, of course, that Kim doesn't win Wimby or the US which I really doubt will happen)

Although this is all so interesting, there is also the little issue of defending points. One of the reasons Kim managed to do so well at the end of last year is that she'd had a lighter schedule or court time than she has this time.
I bet my salary that this year her end results are lesser than last year (Anyone for the taking I get a healthy bonus at the end of the year!)

I know winning a gs title is a big achievement and hopefully Kim will do it in the near future. However if she were to reach no. 1 she should be quite happy about that too, because as it was stated in another thread many more players have managed to win a grand slam rather than having been no. 1
That must be an indication that it's a thing far from easy to reach!

Well, we'll see. Indoors is Kim's best surface, and her wins over Justine on hardcourts have been pretty convincing. And Justine has only signed up for two lead-ups to the US Open, I think, so she won't stack up a lot of points there.
True, Kim has a lot of points to defend, and she's dtopped at least one tournament (so she won't be defending points there) but Justine can only really pull ahead if she does better than Kim at those tournaments. So we'll see.
