I dun no why, I'm gettin bored of tennis....... it's just gettin too predictable and monotonous.. i suppose it's always been monotonous, maybe I'm just bored of the monotonous of the game?

We've lost Hingis, and now we're losing Seles, who I consider one of the most exciting players on the tour.... and we're also losing Kounikova (not that I ever had her or anything!)... ai............. hope Wimbledon ain't a drag too....

The poor British bastard can't even get his own homie rootin' for him! :p

Allez Sebastien! And goodness me, I'm saying that as a Henman fan. Mind you, there are a lot of people other than Grosjean that I would have preferred to beat Henman, but then there are also a lot of people whom I would want to beat him even less (Hewitt comes to mind).

Should be an interesting test of the British crowd's loyalties given the precarious tightrope act that we have recently walked between the USA and France. Roddick is certainly deserving of the title, but this early in his career it would seem, I don't know, weird... at least Grosjean has some grass-court history behind him with his previous titles.

ye.. my brother was sayin that Henman was gettin less support ... I didn't notice any different to be honest

SJW

they should boo Grosjean because hes not English speaking like Roddick

yea that situation would never happen though

It's interesting... Queens always has a less rowdy crowd than at Wimbledon, their support is more along the lines of the occasional shout of encouragement and general enthusiastic applause whenever he plays good points. To be honest, Henman gave them very little to cheer about today, and the noise virtually died out by the start of the second set. A lot of credit for that goes to Grosjean, who did what he had to do very effectively.

yep... i just dun see Henman winning Wimbledon... maybe he'll prove me wrong.. but his serve is pathetic and his volleys are a bit off....

I've never liked Henman. He has zero personality and he gets all our tennis coverage. I just don't like the guy. Greg Rusedski is a different story and he should get much more coverage over here!

I'm backing A-Rod to win tomorrow straight sets, hopefully! :) :bounce: :bounce:

I prefer Rusedski over Henman.. but Henmania seems to take over.... overrated!

Well I'm a Belgian Brit. Lived in the UK pretty much all the time since I was 8 and all my family are Geordies or Welsh.

Anyway, Rusedski is so much more of a charcter than drab Tim Henman. It annoys me how Greg is overlooked so much after all he holds the fastest serve record and he is the only one to reach a Grand Slam final!. But despite all this Tim is the media's favourite. I don't get it.............

Well, it may have something to do with the whole nationality issue, but I think it's because the British public can also sense who is the likelier prospect for a Wimbledon win. Overall Rusedski has had greater peaks than Henman in his career, but Henman has been the more consistent, largely due to his lack of injury problems until recently but also perhaps a more solid temperament.

Bottom line is, if Henman was an absolute robot on court (which he's not), the public would still root for him just because he is the best British hope for their title. Even Rusedski suddenly lost all traces of his personality, the crowd would love him if he could equal Henman's consistency at Wimbleodn.

It'll be pretty pathetic if dickhead can't even win a title on grass.

There's also the matter of Greg being as British as Mary Pierce is French...

Tim really is 'their Tim' whereas Greg's more of an import from the colonies...

Well actually, given that Roddick grew up on American hardcourts and is relatively inexperienced on grass, that he had never won a match at Queens before and that he has made the final in only his second appearance here, I wouldn't say it would be that pathetic if he lost to an all-surfaces player in Grosjean who has won a grass court title and made the last 16 at Wimbledon before. Mind you, if he serves anything like he did today there won't be much danger of that happening...

Jun 15th, 2003, 12:14 AM
so henman has no titles on grass???!

all our british players seem to be imports:

Rusedski: Canadian
Keovathong: looks Asian
Baltacha: Eastern european derivatives
Palmar: Indian
Bogdanovic: Eastern european

Bored? Predictable!?

If you had told me, that Masha and Shinobu would have made it to the semis of BMH I would have laughed in your face.

If you had told me that Justine would beat Kim I would have been ahrd pressed not to laugh!!!!

Shinobu.. i had an incline that she'd beat Bovina...

Justine beating Kim was predictable but the score line wasn't

Well, those are minor upsets, but they are really small ripples in a tide of predictability. What the women's game really lacks is the surprise factor that has happened recently with the men's Grand Slam events, where an unheralded player has suddenly got to the final beating many other form horses along the way (viz Nalbandian, Schuettler, Verkerk - BTW, note how Schuettler beat Nalbandian to get to his GS final and how Verkerk beat Schuettler to get to his. Just a thought...).

Well....Petrova made the SF of the FO...NO ONE predicted that ( and anyone who did can just kiss it =P)

well, this isn't anything new in the women's game. Unlike the men, the top women players have always been much better than the rest of the field and have pretty much contested all the grand slams amongst themselves leading to the long streaks in grand slam wins etc. Nevertheless, I find the personalities on the women's side much more interesting and intriguing...

watch san antonio spurs vs new jersey nets then you'll see what's more predictable

I thought the French Open was great actually and quite exciting to watch.

If someone had told me it would be a Henin-Hardenne V Clijsters final which Justine would walk, while Petrova knocks out Seles & Poor Old Cappy to make the semi final and Zvonareva knocking out Venus in the 4th round and Henin would beat a fit Serena in the semi-final, I would've called this person a complete prat and tell them to go away and add some realism to their diet!! ;)

well i kinda did

i knew she would beat Monica, and as each round went on and her next opponent was unveiled, i knew she would beat them too

i actually predicted she would beat Kim but i ran out of "luck"
