Actually (no names, no "process of elimination"), I spoke @ some length with a European player who when healthy is typically in the 20's who's the only one I can say was as interesting as the many coaches, etc. I've talked to in detail. (I'm not referring to the brief "medical quick fix pre-AO" talk with the Placid Parisian, who was on someone else's phone in the office @ Hobart when I was just going to leave the info on an Ozzie, er, Wizard). No, not THAT Wizard, Nat attended her wedding! :p

I've heard a few times that Dementieva is rude to her fans after practice, and losing after matches.

As for Bovina, she is very nice... she loves to talk. She's very friendly. However, she does have a short temper, stay away from her when she's like that.

i spoke to Vera Zvonareva years ago on the old chat rooms at the sanexwta site when she was a junior. she had some injury at the time and was recuperating..

other than that not really..i know a few of the junior girls like evies sister dani and a few other aussies but i wouldnt label any of them as a 'friend'..nice girls tho ;) spoke to some a fair bit and they gave me a good insight in to what its like for them

Dementieva is very nice at least to me, and i have seen her five times and i'll see her soon!!!!

Unlike Bovina that girl is not friendly, she refused to give out autographs to her fans, i didn't wanted one, but her fans did all she said "I have a match", I was just glad Lindsay took care of her and took her out, that tournament was at Indian Wells.

Bovina is very intense when she plays. If this was right before the match it doesn't surprise me.

I am friends with a pro player, but it's hard for me to think of her like that. She's not a star or anything. She's a "struggling" player, although we try not to think about her career in those terms. She's my friend. And she really wants to make it. She's gone through so much crap in her life and playing tennis is like re-birth for her. It's the coolest thing about her life and she is happy just to be able to be competing professionally. We are good friends. When she's in town (which is usually only for about 4 months out of the year max) we shoot the shit, chat, see one another, go out and stuff. She trains everyday so it's hard to find time but we always do. She's strictly an ITF circuit player at the moment and has only recently been able to go directly into 25K qualifying draws based on her ranking (which is around the 1000's). She has only qualified for one main draw in her two years on tour so far, but we all wish her the best of luck. She's currently playing the 25K quallies in Lenzerheide in Switzerland. I'm not sure how she did in that. After that, she goes to England to play some 10K's over there. And she's also got tickets to Wimbledon where she will most likely catch up with her other pro-tennis-playing mates. It's so exciting!

I would reveal her name but I don't want to use her name behind her back without her consent. I want to respect her privacy. I'm a friend that way.

Most players dont like to give out autographs before a match. Bovina was very nice after her match when i saw her, she was signing autographs for everyone and generally talking and being friendly.

LOL!! This thread is hilarious!!
Well, I am friends with no players. But I manage the men's tennis team at my uni (we have a pretty good team--went to the NCAAs, the coach used to be on the ATP Tour), so through them, I am really good friends with a lot of the female players. And our school is 2nd most international school in the country after Harvard, so every girl on the team is from another country. They are all Russian and Eastern European and stuff. So they all played junior tennis and were on the European circuit as kids and they all know all the top players and used to party with them and stuff.

And one of our players, Katerina, she said this funny thing, she told me she was Slovakian. And I was like, oh, cool, I LOVE Daniela Hantuchova. And she was like, "Yeah, she's cool. We were friends, but obviously, she went a lot farther than me." Aaaaww

uh, I've talked to Brie Rippner a couple of tims online, but she doesn't like talking about tennis. She was really nice and she is really cool.

I tried messaging Nargiza Tulyaganova a few times, but she never answered. Dunno if it was because of the language barrier or because she doesn't like talking, but whatever.

I've gotten several autographs...small talk though with Mauresmo, Smashnova, Neffa de los Rios, etc.

I have talked with Marta & Maria Antonia on line

Ainhoa Goņi & Arancha Parra were very friendly to talk to in person.
Cristina & Vivi too...
Blahotova is cool too, i was sitted with her for 1 hour and looks kind and nice.
Liggan was funny, i tried talking to her in english, and after she let me ashame myself, she told me " yo hablo espaņol" ( I speak spanish) pfff lol

And my best memorie so far, my lunch with Nina Duebbers :D

Anna K was nothing talkative lol but of course Conchita Martinez was, and i took a very strange pic with her lol

Generally all players don't like to talk about tennis... whenever I write to *insert player* she rarely says a thing about it.

I usedto correspond wit a couple of players by e-mail an internet. One has retired but had a decent career and did really well at a couple of Grand Slams. Another was a british player. I also shared a table with Dally Randriantefy, I just wish I had known more French at the time so I could've communicated better with her. I have had a couple of serious conversations with an Australian
female pro ranked in the 1000's. Also a couple of times at airports I have been surrounded by pros but was to stupid and thought they were pl on tennis vacations. Cecil Mammit was next to me at Bagage Claim and Alejandro Fernandez from Mexico made a phone call when I was sitting a few seats away from him. However. those of you that are at least aquainted are very fortunate, I think I don't have an aquaintance because I drool over anyone that is a professional. I think players think I must be psycho.

I wrote a letter to Chanda a couple months ago (this was the day of her SF match with Capriati at Miami) and within two weeks, she responded! Inside the return envelope I provided, I found a great color 8x10 of chanda signed "To (My name): Thanks for being such a great fan! Chanda Rubin" This just shows how much class Chanda has off the court, as well as on. She really appreciates her fans, and to reply that quickly and nicely proves it!

Most of you wouldn't know my friends as they were stars in the 60s and 70s:
Francoise Durr, Nancy Richey, Betty Stove, Judy Dalton, Chris O'Neil & Pam Whytcross. They are all pretty good friends and mainly keep in touch via email although I play tennis regularly with Chris O'Neil.

I have had extensive business dealings with many other legends from the past including Evonne Goolagong, Margaret Court, Billie-Jean King, Rosie Casals, Lesley Turner, Rod Laver, John Newcombe, Ken Rosewall and Tony Roche. Would you believe me if I told you that none of them had their own Wimbledon and US Open victories on video tape? So I organised their footage for them.

Have met and had photos taken with some of the other younger stars eg. Serena / Venus / Scud / Rafter but not friends with any of them.

I hit w/Cory Ann Avants @ the US Open a couple of years ago. We chatted for about 20 minutes after her first round qualy match. I went to watch her practice the next day and I asked for a picture w/her. She looked at me and said "You can get more than that, get out here," and she threw me her racquet  We hit for about 10 minutes and her coach said "Alright, play a tiebreak." She didn't know if I was any good or not, so she pattycaked a first serve, and I hit a winner by her. I served a first serve and she hit an unforced error and then screamed "OH BS, THAT'S IT!" She beat me 7-3 after that. So nice though
