View Full Version : Any justified reason why Eurosport isn't covering the Wimbledon Tourney?

It's the only GS tourney that they seem to ignore. Being EUROsport, they should voluntarily cover it with or without permission. :lick:

cos the BBC have the rights on it...

Basically, the EU has a rule whereby countries can choose their five (I think) most important sporting events, which have to be available on 'free-to-air' TV channels. So the BBC has the rights to cover Wimbledon, so Eurosport doesn't. And thank heavens for that, terrestrial coverage of tennis is bad enough in this country, we wouldn't want to see Wimbledon disappear onto cable/satellite.

why can't BBC share it with other sports channel? If Eurosport could broadcast the US Open, Oz Open, and RG Open, why not this Wimby.

dsf had wimbledon rights but that's not an english channel of course

can't they buy the rights and and make that british eurosport gets excluded?

I think wimbledon costs more because it's seen at the tournament of tournaments by (non) tennis fans

I wouldn't like it if the Wimbly coverage changed from BBC to Eurosport... BBC is so much fun to watch, the best coverage from all slams IMO

Don't you receive BBC BasicTennis?

I agree katrientje

I love all those useless babbles they have;)

Indeed, even if it was raining they kept it entertaining.... or maybe that was due to the fact that I was supposed to be studying instead of watching? Everything gets interesting at that time, no?

i prefer the Eurosport commentators (Bailey and Reed have me ROTF) but Wimby on BBC also means no adverts ;)

We have some Dutch commentators on Eurosport and they pretty much suck IMO...

I only get BBC World and BBC Prime. , which BBC channel is it?

Eurosport needs to fight for this...they're not EUROsport for nothing.

The belgian one is really boring and sometimes I get the impression that he has no clue what he's talking about. Then you the Dutch woman, she has some good stories, but here voice is nasal (don't know if the spelling is correct) and annoying

BBC one and Two have constant broadcasting from action at Wimbledon.
Now I agree: Eurosport has to fight for it! It would be sad if some Europeans wouldn't get the opportunity to watch one of the best tournaments of the year
