Although I hear Karolina definitely challenged Vera today, I also heard that Vera began running out of gas toward the end of the match.

Is it me or is the young Russian playing wayyyyyy to many tournaments? (i.e. Dokic)

Hope she reduces her schedule a little bit, I think she is beginning to show signs of fatique.

Any thoughts?

I think Vera may find it hard on grass, especially as she keep on playing on the clay.

You see I think they should move this tournament, as well as Porterscatdt and the like before the French, have a weeks break afterwards, and then play on the grass.

she's about to burn out. how many tourneys has she played so far? it seems like every week her name's in a draw. I really hope she drops this Dokic routine and makes a much smarter summer schedule.

It's Zvonareva.

it's because she's not used to winning this many matches per tournament and going far in pretty much all the events she plays in. it's a learning curve, thats all. and i dont think her form is in tip-top shape for her to be playing as much as she does, but she's doing awesome, so good for her

She always corrects her schedule, she realises that she can't play that much. She withdrew from Rome, now - from Rosmalen..

thank you.......she is playing her 14 tournament so far,
Jelena Dokic played 30 touranaments in a yr
after her 18 birthday.......

Vera has 18 tournaments after her birthday
celebrated during US Open, with less than 4 months to go,
i think she'll play around 27 tournaments.......

this is her yr....i dont see her defending these points.....
hopefully she'll reach TOP 10 this yr, hoepfully she wont
fall too far off the map...:)

for what its worth i think she is just feeling out the tour..i mean last year she played and had to qualify for a bunch of tiny tournaments. This year I think she entered a bunch not really expecting to make runs quite so deep in the events. It wil be interesting if she takes some time off after Wimbledon in the 2 weeks or so before Team Tennis. Then after that we'll see if she plays each week.

I think another part of it was that maybe she was concerned with defending her french open pts from last year. All in all whoever said it was a learning experience is right, hopefully she will smarten up this summer..I'd expect her to do so.

Also, I don't want to go back and look it up but I think I remember reading that her rd. 4 results at the french and us open's last year accounted for nearly half of her ranking points. Maybe she thought that by playing just about every week, and getting to a bunch of 2nd and 3rd rounds she could defend those points throughout the weeks before and after the french. She didn't have any idea how she'd do in the bigger tourneys because she has never played them...and she was prolly a bit surprised to win one, final, sf, and qf of a few tier 1 tourneys.

You're right on target Jakeev. I have a special name for it-"The Russian disease". A lot of balkan players(Dokic) get it too.

Not a single top ranked Russian woman yet has cut down her schedule. A lot of people put it down to a get the money while you can approach to life.

Whatever the cause-I'd be willing to bet it keeps Russian women from winning slams until one of them gets off the merry go round.

They need to learn from those who cut events. The last East European female to suceed was Monica Seles-whose father wisely didn't let her play 25 freaking insane events a year

Maybe she thought that by playing just about every week, and getting to a bunch of 2nd and 3rd rounds she could defend those points throughout the weeks before and after the french.

That could be true-but I recall the very same argument from Dokic fans in 2001. "She'll play less when her ranking is higher etc". Like I say, it's a merry go-round, once they get on they rarely get off.

I just pray Sharapova has a different mindset.

No, it's not just you. I'm wondering if Vera's excessive tournaments is motivated by money. Her coach has to be aware that she's headed for burn-out so I don't understand why someone hasn't intervened, unless they are the ones dictating her schedule. I agree with whoever said that she will bow out early at Wimbledon. She'll have nothing left after the amount of clay tournaments she's played this year.

well....didnt she cut down this yr?........
plus overkill did get Jelena to #4 in the world..
it's all about the timing u know,
when u have the confidence,
you have to speed your progress..........
when u dont, u slow it down,
let her overkill for awhile.......she'll start
to slow down when she reaches the peak.......
if i were her, i would do the same too,
just enjoy the time of her career.....
so GOOD LUCK VERA...:)
