Looks like Martina won't get a singels wild card after all.
The other two wild cards were announced, (on the thread for the tourny on this board).

I think they made the right choice.

Although it would be fun to see in an exhibition type event, I don't think it shows respect to the other players to give her a wildcard for singles.

If that's true, and if I were her, I'd not play that tournament altogether.

I don't think she will be bitter. She knew that she might not get it. If she were to pull out now - that would not be very classy. She is a doubles player. She said she wanted to play singles to help her doubles. Well, she can still do that. She can still practice with the others while there. I know Jennifer likes to hit with Martina when they are at the same events, (probably because she will benefit from all of Martina's experience).

Officially, Martina retired from singles play already, so maybe the decision is justified.

Maybe her results last year had something to do with their decision. She has nothing left to prove and I agree that they shouldn't give her a WC. She's still one of my favorite players but she's been retired for 9 years now. Kick ass in doubles! Rack up those titles, Nav!
