WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bah, Serena!!! I would be in a movie with Kirsten Dunst anyday!

And if Anna Kournikova can read crappily off a card, I think Serena can do it too. LOL!

Did they say why she turned it down?

I think she said that she wanted to be challenged and playing a tennis player really wouldn't improve her acting skills. Apparently, she's got many other offers to choose from...

She is there to win a grandslam not have a bit part in the movie. I dont blame her. All her effort needs to be on defense of her title.

:worship: Serena :worship:

She's right. She needs to go for roles that challenge her. I mean why do a part in the sport you play in? She applies this same philosophy to the clothes she wants to design (evening gowns, etc.). The Williamses don't want to limit themselves or be labeled as just a tennis player. They're doing everything to ensure that by avoiding all things related to their current career in relation to their future careers. :) Those are some smart girls.

They only wanted her so kristen could beat her on court for the movie. Whatever. She was right to turn it down.

it could be seen as a wise move (if she took the role people may not think she is a serious actress) but in turn if she has declined people may say she isn't serious about acting because she didn't take the role or they'll think that she is to good to play such a role but let's face it everyone needs to start somewhere and i think serena should have taken the role but only to help her in the future with getting better roles, a start is a start serena could have had a start but she won't not now anyway. i think she should have taken the role to get a foot in the door so when she really wants to take acting seriously then it will be easier for her to get a good role.

Yeah I heard she was up for an Actor's Guild award for "The Crow:Salvation" :p

Gowza she's already started somewhere when she played the teacher on that Damon Wayans show.

oh well, i didn't know that. but still, whether she took the roll or not people could still say she isn't really serious about acting. i think it's a bit unfair but i guess that is what happens when you're already in the spotlight and you what to mchange careers (or add another career).

good for SErena not to allow herself to get stereotyped if she is serious about acting! ;)

Rocketta
Jun 14th, 2003, 02:11 AM
Yeah I think I remember her saying that she didn't want to play "herself" by doing guest appearances? I don't know I guess we'll see if it was the right decision or not.

well, from the article it seems like she's got so many offers that she has to turn some of them down. I can't say if that's really the case or not but it does seem like she can pick which door to put her foot through first :)

Gowza, you are correct. It appears that she's in quite a conundrum. However, she has had two foot in the door opportunities in Black Knight and My Wife and Kids, those were really small roles. It's time for the next step and I'm not sure how big this role in 'Wimbledon' was supposed to be. For Serena to be getting, in her words 'lots of scripts', the roles were obviously enough to peak the interest of some directors and producers.

I believe the real thing to worry about with Serena is scheduling. It's going to be hard for her with so few opportunities to shoot scenes for a big role that she's hoping to get. Tennis isn't like basketball or other sports that have a substantial amount of time off. I admire her for going after her dream and when she does pull it off I'll be right there watching her on the big screen. But for now I'm wondering how she's going to pull it off.

Smart girl.

What if the movie is bad? Besides...I recall reading
a piece from the LA Times business section about
the marketing potential of the Williams sisters. The
article went onto quote Serena's non-tennis agent
and she said the scripts that interest them would be
something out of what people would expect, mainly
non-sports type things such as the role of a victim
in a Crime drama etc...things that Serena can really
show another deeper side of her emotions.

Since Serena is so famous she'll be able to get a lot more roles. Turning down the movie was a wise decision if she didnt like the script or what the role invovled. I dont think actors should try to compromise their values to act in a crappy movie just because they need the work. Maybe if they're poor and they need to, but not someone as rich as Serena. I just hope the acting wont get in the way of her tennis. Acting can be very demanding physically and emotionally too so it might have a negative effect.

"What happened at the French (Open) happened a week ago," Williams said. "It's all water on the bridge and I've moved on."

Lol, the woman is actually a walking malapropism generator.

Water under the bridge, Serena. Under.

I was justing waiting for someone to point that out lol hey maybe the reporter misheard her ;)

I think it was a wise move not making the movie, but I've got to admit I'm not taking Serena's acting career seriously... the thing is I don't take HOLLYWOOD seriously. As long as Serena doesn't do any teen slasher film I'll guess it will be alright.
Just keep it Real Serena.

I'm a good actress and I have a lot of skill and I would like to challenge myself. If I'm playing a part in a tennis movie it's not going to challenge me at all."

Geesh!! Too bad Serena has no confidence. Girlfriend needs to work on that part of her personality.

Anyway, I've only seen her in that TV show and she did a passable job, probably because it wasn't all that demanding. And, from what I've heard, that small part in the movie she did was left on the cutting room floor. Plus, her "modeling" in Sports Illustrated didn't amount to much. So, I think whether or not she's a "good actress" or "model" remains to be seen.

Having said that, it was a good move to NOT do that Wimbledon movie. Wouldn't make much sense to play a tennis player.;) My suggestion would be for her appear in a couple of television shows (either comedy or drama) so people can see what she can do and then maybe she'll be offered the movie roles she wants.
