no joke! Her name is Irina Delitz, apparently really beautiful, and a very nice person. She is from Germany and talks about the life of being a tennis-professional without entering Slams or even winning them, without interviews and photo-sessions and without fans behind her.

Pretty interesting stuff!

Is that where all the Clijsters, Henins, Williamses and Capriatis came from?

here is the link to it:

hmmmm, no one even looked at this topic, and it got dropped to side 2 :-(

seems the most people here are only interested in topics which includes the words "williams" or "kournikova"

acutally quite sad....

That was a lovely story. Thanks for posting it.

It's nice to read about players other than the top ones. The players seem so sincere and so unspoiled and eager to please. That's why I'm hoping the Tennis Channel is up and running soon in my area. I would love to see more of the "not so great" players who are trying to get into the top 100.

I read it. It was interesting. But please don't diminish her like that, she's actually the #560 right now. ;)

She does come across as a nice girl, even if this aspect, her alleged niceness, is stressed a bit too blatantly by the interviewer. Did he expect she would mug him?

I agree with the points she made about Hingis being an exception that other young talents shouldn't necessarily measure themselves against. She states the Top 100 as a career objective. Not awfully realistic looking at her age and recent results, but as long as her parents are willing to bankroll her aspirations, she should give it a shot as a "pro".

but she has not tried seriously before. She has basically no single decent result beside in the last year. She is still improving her game, only because she started late....

Lisa Raymond became pro aged 23, didnt she?

Would you have predicted the same for Lisa, just because of her age when she was 23 and ranked somewhere around 200? "She will never win something?"

Indeed, there are plenty of late bloomers. But reviewing her results, I would be very surprised if she gets inside the Top 250 (I'm being very generous here). First rounds at $10K's consistently seem to be her stumbling block. Her results from the first half of 2002 might point to something, but she hasn't been able to repeat any of that this year. I don't see much progress considering the effort she puts in and the fact that she is guided by a former ATP player. That's fairly favorable conditions already, but it doesn't seem to have gotten her anywhere. But of course she may prove me totally wrong.

BTW. Were there any pictures accompanying the interview somewhere? ;)
