Well, I got there at 12 - it was bright warm sunshine, BTW - Eggy - that walk to the club is not 20 mins - more like 40!!

I got there and watched Nathalie and Elena Likhovtseva practising, took a few pictures and went to Centre Court. Lisa Raymond and Anastassia Rodionova were playing - to be honest it wasn't a great match, but Lisa looked in great shape - much fitter than we see on TV.

Then i went to watch Daja Bedanova and Maria Vento - this was the match of the day for me, Daja is so hot - its unbelievable, she IS skinny, but nowhere near anorexic, she was playing really well in parts, and then coming in on a whim and getting passed so often. Her dad was ther and to be honest, seemed a little creepy, Vento's coach/husband  kept on shouting Vamos ALL THE TIME - I thought i was at a Conchita match! ;) I also watched a bit of Corina - Tara and was surprised at how little Corina went to net - thats why she lost that match - at net she's top 20, but from the baseline... :o

Then i took my seat to watch Widjaja - Callens. Els is so great - she plays with a smile on her face, and it makes you want to support her. I can see why Angie is so good on hardcourts, but i think its too early for her on grass - she looked a little uncomfortable. The funniest thing about this match was that it was on the far court, surrounded by trees and bushes, and those little white things that fly off in the wind were all over the court - it was like it was snowing. :)

Then I went to the practice courts where Martina Navratilova - Alicia - Rennae and some guy were playing a fun set of doubles, i was sat so close, part of me loved it, but part of me thought there was so little security for the players. Anyway, i can exclusively reveal that there are all heavy gamblers - Rennae was holding a sweepstake for the Queensland Aussie Rules match, each putting £2 in.

Rennae seemed quite off with the little kids wanting autographs, as Martina left to go to the weights room, i wished her good luck for the month - she laughed and said I think I'm gonna need it!!

Then Alexandra came on with Jessica - no real tension with Martina after the famous locker room lesbians comment, Alex is such a beauty - her ass is huge - but in a good J.Lo sort of a way - she kept looking over at me and smiling - i was thinking of making a move - haha! ;)

Honestly, though, she was hitting the ball so well, i couldn't believe she lost to Razzano - she is definitely one to watch at Wimbledon. Then i went to see Maggie - Jane, but alas, the rain came, i ran out of the court and who was at the crepe stand ordering a large crepe with chocolate sauce - but Maggie - i started laughing and she laughed and said "these are so good"!

Shame about the rain, but all in all, a good day! :)

i was sat so close, part of me loved it, but part of me thought there was so little security for the players.

Maybe Martina N complained about this because when I was there on Wednesday there were two police officers there at all times looking over the practice courts until she finished!.......too bad for the rest of the players though, because when she had finished - the police went off watching some tennis :o

Great report - and I agree with Maggie, those crepes are so good! When I was leaving, I spotted Eleni there too and a couple of years ago, Meilin Tu was at the burger van

BTW, I thought it was a bit suss when Eggy said it was only a ten min walk from New Street......I always catch an extra train to Five Ways - THEN it's a 15-20 min walk to the club.

i didn't like the crepes that much, but nathalie dechy obviously did - she was visiting on tuesday and wednesday. i also saw other players hanging around the crepe van and the burger van: really surprising to see them eating junk food. from all the magazine articles on tennis, fitness, nutrition etc. you'd think they'd all be eating pasta, spinach, tuna and celery sticks.

yes, that pollen was ridiculous: like a snowstorm when the sun shines. What a silly place to plant that type of tree  unless the trees were there before the courts  isn't this a really old club?

cooolconchita - we must have arrived at the same time on Tuesday. We came about 12, and nathalie and elena were hitting on the closest court. I watched Lisa against Anastassia Rodionova from about 4-1 in the first set. Rodionova had some nice shots, and nice drop shots, but really lost focus after the first set. Lisa played okay, but just had to keep her head. I like her sliced backhand.

It's funny, 'cos lisa looks trim on the court, but when I saw her off-court in tracksuit bottoms and her hairly still wet from the shower, she looked flabby and scruffy

I got the impression from seeing Rennae that she's not very kind. Nicole Pratt was also disinterested and sulking.

Els was nice, as was Asagoe and Elena Likhovtseva. The rain was awful. We took a chance and left early, and thankfully didn't end up missing a thing, even though it brightened up. i guess the courts were just too damp.

Sorry to hear that - I got her autograph and to me she seemed pretty nice. Maybe she was alright with me as she had noticed that I was sitting there for about 1/2 an hour waiting for her and Corina's autograph LOL (that was on wednesday).

She seem to have a sense of humour too she was having a laugh and a joke with Martina N and Alicia Molik.

rachel - i think you're right when you allude to the variability of the players. there are "right" and "wring" moments to catch them for a photo or autograph, and it's an art to decipher a good time.

If they've just lost, or if they're about to go on court, some players seem to make it a habit to not do these sort of things. Likewise, if they're just nipping out for a crepe, or are scouting with their coach at the side of a court.

But, if they've jst won, or have just finished practice, or are just walking about the tournament site to see what's going, most will always respond to a polite request.

i think there's also a limit. understandably, hey don't want to get into a conversation, simply because (a) you're a stranger and (b) you'll attract a larger group of people wanting autographs and a picture.

I think they have "times" for these things, when they'll happily oblige, but other times when they'll make it clear that it's not "autograph time". As a fan, one has to try to decipher the mood according to the situation.

20 mins is just about my norm from New St, i told you i can walk a mile in 8 mins :p, you got to judge it by yourself

I just got back home from Birmingham just now, been quite a day :)
on Tuesday, when it rained i went inside and hit with Abi Spears for a while until Yuka Yoshida came along

Cool! Abby :)

Have you reported on the Big Match elsewhere, Eggy? I would like to know your impressions.

Janie' there's a few bits and pieces here and there
some on Russian Roulette, a bit in Gen Mess and i put one on Eleni's ;)

I also had a little bit of a really nice one to one with Abi Spears too ;)
she's just great :)
she's finding it hard...... whether to play singles challengers or play doubles in WTA events, catch 22 situation, more doubles she plays the lower her singles rank falls by not playing.
still she was pretty happy there all week just watching the tennis after she lost in doubles qualies.
She was "hoping" that someone would pull out but not to be
She sais she's off to Holland and hope she gets into doubles there, then Wimby qualies for doubles too, then she might try singles again back on USTA Circuit.

Hopefully Abi can have a few good weeks on the USTA Circuit and get her ranking high enough. :)
