I know they said that they would never go back again after what happened in 2001, but the tournament is being upgraded to a super Tier I (like Miami). Do you think they will relent and play anyway? The extra points can't hurt.

AH...I thought it already was a tier 1....what do you mean by "super tier 1"?

even more money and more points, I assume.

my guess is a big fat 'no'.

I would be very surprised to see either one there in 2004, but I guess you never say never.

No. I think they expressed why very clearly. Anyway I think its more fun to watch the press and everone get all riled up instead of just letting it go and not mentioning it. No player has to play any tournament if they choose not to do so.

I think a super Tier I not only awards more money, but awards more points and is considered one step below a Grand Slam. The event has also been expanded to two weeks for everyone instead a week and a half for the women and a week for the men.

Who cares if they don't play there? Monica won't play in Germany. It's her choice. I can't see getting upset with either Venus or Serena for not playing Indian Wells even if Serena did say she would return to defend her title.

I am more concerned with what Pasarel can do to get Justine to play next year.

I hope they never play there again, but then again playing there could get them conditioned to face the Franch Crowds.

I like thier answer to the question. "We play to entertain, we play where we're welcomed" (paraphrased)-Serena

The Will play but only after Kournikova wins her first title.
