You forgot to add that she is also in the process of getting a divorce. If any player could use divine intervention, she is the one.

Get well Corina and good luck for the rest of the year.

I'm happy for Els Callens she won, but I like Corina Morariu as well...

Well, her father and brother are both doctors who recognized her trouble when she came back from Europe and got her into chemotherapy early enough for her to have a fighting chance. I suppose in the larger scale of things, I would consider that GOOD luck. She is in remission now. I do wish she would have some good luck in tennis. Drawing Serena in the first round of the US Open was BAD luck!!!

Sigh..and to think that before and after she had cancer she was plagued with injuries.

I remember one year at Wimbledon she had to play her best friend and doubles partner Lindsay Davenport in the 1st round and after a good 1st set she had a very nasty fall somewhere in the 2nd, it was shocking because for a couple of minutes she was still lying on the ground before she was helped! I think Lindsay actually came over to her first! The result was a fracture in her elbow. Anyone remember this??

In 2001 she sprained her foot at the German Open before learning she had leukemia and last year in Bali she had to retire her match because of shoulder tendonitis. :(

Of course, Corina is a role model to all she is SUCH a fighter! :)

I remember this very well! It was Wimby 2000, as she fell she let out a screem to which Lindsay rushed over immediately (the crowd applauded Lindsay too). They had to unfortunately pull out of doubles that year - they were the defending champions! :o

Knee surgery? Are you sure? I thought she was out for shoulder surgery. In any case, it's sad. Like Monica, Corina never seems to get the breaks. :(

Wow, I was wondering what happened, and someone told me it was her knee. That girl had the worst luck, but of course because she is so positive..she looks at being alive as good luck..which it really is. I just wish she would have some better breaks. Poor girl. She is someone really good to look up to though, cause whenever I am down, I think about EVERYTHING she went through, and it all seems a lot better. Yeah, so first she broke her arm against Lindsay..struggled..by the way..what happened in that match? I didn't see. Then she hurts her foot, gets diagnosed with leukemia..almost died from complications of that, comes back, draws Serena, get shoulder tendonitis, now getting divorced, then get surgery, now comes back and had tendinitis in her knee! I really hope she is ok and can play. Sometimes after starting back to the game, your body doesnt hold up too well. I know that. I just started playing again two days ago after surgery, and I am so tired! The body needs to get back in shape. Maybe she just needs some time. I hope she gets better soon, so she can play Wimbledon!

By the way, someone said they met her. I met her too. Isn't she sweet. Tell me how it went. Thanks.

Get well Cor!

I heard about 7 or 8 years ago that Corina was very closely involved with her coach from a friend of mine who was one of the many exceptional juniors living and training in Florida.

Is that who she is married to now and getting a divorce from?

I remember hearing that the gossip in Florida tennis circles was that even though she was underage, her father, a surgeon I had heard, did not care that her daughter was intimate with her coach as long as she was becoming a professional player. Before she became a pro, Corina was playing exclusively on the ITF junior circuit and had very strong results.
