GISELE ADVANCES AT BIRMINGHAM!

The 8th seed, Gisele Noventz from Cuba didn't have problems to defeat USA's Bryanne Applegate in the first round of DFS Classic in Birmingham.

The Cuban with powerful serves and volleys didn't give any chances to her rival who even tried to make it tough during the 2nd set, but Noventz was stronger and got the tiebreaker.

"I'm really happy with the way I played today" said Noventz who plays Adriana Gonzalez at the quarterfinals.

"It's going to be a tough match. Adriana is having an incredible year, but I'll give my best." said Noventz who's defending a semifinal at Wimbledon, in two weeks.

"I'm nervous. That's why I'm trying everything at this grass season."

An Interview with Gisele Noventz, who'll be at the semifinals against Larisa Ferrer.

Q: Gisele, you finally seem to be comfortable with your game.
A: Yeah. Everything is working. I totally expect to be better from now on, everything ok. Let's see.

Q: You had good wins in here. Your part of the draw was a strong, with Bryanne, who's a former top 10 and Adriana Gonzalez who's consistent player on tour.
A: I know. Those victories mean a lot to me. I'm really trying to take one match at time. I have to say that I'm not satisfied with it yet. I have some things to change, but until now, it seems to be working. Like I said, I have a lot to defend at this grass season, but I'm feeling no pressure. I'm just playing my game, and trying my best..

Q: You play Larisa Ferrer. You were quite disappointed at the last time you two met. In Wimbledon wasn't it?
A: Yeah. It was a tough match to me, cause it was my 1st semifinal and I was incredibly nervous. I fell in tears in the end, but everything is ok now. I was just really confident thinking I would win and in the end I lost.

Q: Do you think now it's gonna be a different meeting?
A: Definitely. Larisa is still the favorite, but I guess it's going to be a tough match cause I didn't get here for nothing. I'm not going to give up.

Q: Now, outside tennis, is your DVD done?
A: (smiles) We're gonna finish it soon. I just took a break from the production cause I have my tennis to take care of. But after Wimbledon, I'm going to Brazil to finish and shock you guys (laughs)

Q: Ok Gisele. Thank you, and good luck.
A: Thank you.

Interview with Gisele Noventz after Birmingham's final

Q: Hi Gisele. After all you had good week. How do you rate yourself after this?
A: I think I played OK. I would have rated me higher, if I won the finals, but I didn't play very well in the third set. I could've played better and maybe won.

Q: This is Ana Maria's first title. When you won your first title you defeated her also, and it was in Hertogenbosch, do you remember?
A: Yeah. Ana Maria is a great grass courter. She knows how to volley and she's very quick. I knew it would be a tough match cause we all know she's very dangerous on grass, so I just knew.

Q: You had a great win on the semifinals. Most say that was the final.
A: Yeah. I didn't play my best but I was still able to defeat her.

Q: Was the first time you defeated her?
A: Yeah. Every time we played I had a chance, so It was kinda boring.. I finally showed her I could play her and beat her. Beat the crap out of her..

Q: There were some controversial moments during that match. That volley that she hit at the tiebreaker in the second set, do you think that was decisive for her?
A: Yeah, she was lucky cause you know, the umpire loves the top players. It's unfair for the lower ranked players, cause we know the umpires always go with the top players, and in that moment everyone knew it was out, and he marked in, cause I was playing against almighty Ferrer.

Q: But you still beat her.
A: I had to do my part.

Q: Gisele, you always have found a way to criticize Larisa's actions. Os there something between you and her?
A: No. I wish we never had something. I just think she's very ridiculous. Everyone likes to lick her butt, in the locker rooms, on everything. And when a player who doesn't like her comes here and talk, people think this player should be punished and etc.. I don't like her and never did.

Q: You were mad with her for playing a tier III.
A: Of course. She's a top player. But I don't blame her for playing here. She played in a very weak tournament before, and everyone was criticizing her. Everyone was glad she was beaten, and I'm glad I beat her this week, cause she has a lot of titles.. I'm sure she won't miss a tier III.

Q: Changing the subject, where are you going now? Eastbourne or Hertogenbosch?
A: Thank you. I'm going to Eastbourne.

Q: You're not defending your title?
A: No. I'm going to Eastbourne to try something.

Q: Are you nervous that Wimbledon is just in a week?
A: I'm almost peeing myself (laughs) I just hope everything's fine to me.

Q: Ok Gisele, we wish you good luck and comeback next year.
A: Thank you, I will I will.
