View Full Version : Will Justine fall into the same trap as Momo?

Amelie Mauresmo came to Paris full of confidence after having posted a recent clay court win over SERENA in Rome, but was handed a devestating defeat at the hands of the Michigan Mauler from which she may never fully recover.

Now it is Justine's turn to see if she can channel her recent win confidene to something more productive against SERENA. Justine leads their clay court matchups 2-1, but none of those matches have been contested on the clay of Roland Garros which SERENA has laid claim to as her own.

Overall, SERENA leads the head to head against Henin 4-2 and she is not playing in Paris the way that she did in Charlston.

http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20030603/capt.1054654936france_french_open_rog142.jpg

This match should be much better than SERENA'S quarter final competition, but the results should still come out as another win for SERENA.

TR

Well....maybe it would if this was played in Belgium....but considering Justine has really no pressure on her....I don't think it'll be a problem. Serena will be blown away in two easy sets 6-0 6-0. My prediction. Believe it.

I just like Michigan Mauler and yeah, methinks nothing gets between herself and a grand slam. she's rather lazy in regular tourneys but she's serious as hell at the majors.

LOL Rtael!

And Conchita will work her lazy ass back into the top ten.

I don't know if Justine will have the same fate as Amelie, but I know that Serena will definitely have to play tomorrow like she played yesterday if she wants to get back to the final. And contrarly to popular belief, I think she will play Petrova. Unlike Amelie, she hasn't played like she was nervous and she can keep pace with the top players. The only thing I think may hurt her game is if this will be her first match on centre court because that could overwhelm her.

who plays her first match on centrecourt?

First match is Kim vs. Petrova.

Justine has had her problems with nerves. I don't believe they have been as serious as Mauresmo. I HOPE it will be a closer match. I thought it was painful watching Mauresmo play. Maybe go three sets, with Serena pulling out in the third.

Not only will nerves be an issue (with both players, I think), Justine will go into the match knowing she has lost two Grand Slam semifinals and a Grand Slam final to Venus. True, they were not on clay, but they were still losses in big matches.

Justine will choke on the big stage, like Amelie unfortunately did :(

Jun 4th, 2003, 05:30 PM
but that was venus. I think venus is a bigger problem for justine then serena

I still go with a 6:3 6:2 too for serena though especially when she has the face (maybe she likes king verkerk;))

Justine will give a good account of herself but will eventually succumb to the Michigan Mauler's pressure.

Justine won't be so nervous as Momo (i hope) and the big prob with Momo, I think, was her (second) serve and Justine takes more riscs on that so it will be a totally different match. Justine also can relpace her game into defense why Momo, imo, wanted to play her game to much (I hope it's clear what I mean :o)

I'm not gonna say Justine is going to win this but she sure has a good chance to do :)

I think Justine playing second is a disadvantage too especially when kim wins. then she knows a whole nation wants a belgian final wich means more pressure!

I think Justinw will surprise you all and take this match , I think the memeories of watching The open with her Mother will help her through. And to say Mauresmo was full of confidence this tournament isn t really true , in any other tournament yes but not in Paris.

 The Belgian just might win, however, I serously doubt the score will be 6:0 6:0, unless it's in Serena's favor...!!! :p :p :p :p

that no pressure crap that players talk about is just bs. Serena feels it sometimes kim feels it sometimes justine feels it sometimes its only a matter of who handles it better. GO SERENA GET REVENGE!

JuJu is going to surprise all you naysayers and although i want Serena to win, I am not super confident that she will...I really don't expect her to roll over like MoMo did. I expect her to win or lose playing well ...

*prays that waiting for Serena to make errors isn't JuJu's game plan*

:) Oh ye, of little "faith"...!!! Your "ambivalence" shows through and through...!!! Keep the "FAITH", baby...!!!

SERENA is out for revenge on those who have previously defeated her and two of those unfortunate victims are in her path to the Roland Garros title. :)

They have my sympathies. :)

I say no. Henin-Hardenne will be motivated by Mauresmo's lacklustre performance. She's also mentally stronger than Mauresmo. I can't guarantee that she'll beat Serena but she will definitely give Serena a more competitive match. I have no doubts in my mind that Serena will be out for revenge.

Justine is no longer the choking type, I just hope she plays her own game, and does not go jelly legged like Momo.

I agree with TR because Serena's too Good now.And Henin's good too.
But i think Serena will crunch her tomorrow :)

Well, if Justine plays like she has this whole tournament, then compared to Mauresmo, Serena will have to face:

1) A better 1st & 2nd serve
2) A speedier player
3) Harder groundstrokes
4) More consistent shots
5) A better slice

I don't know who will win but Justine won't fold like cardboard.

Justine won't have the same pressure Amelie faced.

say what you will, i have my methods ;) I'm not going to come on here and proclaim Serena a victor when the match hasn't happened yet because we all know Justine is capable of beating her like any one else, I dont' like eating crow. :D

LOL! I agree! I am nervous about the match also. I was never a confident fan of any player. ;)

Uhhh, that won't happen. Even though Justine's a lot more consistent than Amelie and she's already won two claycourt titles, Serena's still got the weapons to beat Henin. But I don't think Serena's gonna get it easy in the Semis...although I'm a good Christian and God will probably reward me by allowing Serena to spank that little Belgian butt 6-0, 6-0 :)

Cariosity,
If Serena is rather lazy in regular tournaments, I guess the other players are comatose. Serena's 2 losses this year demonstrate a person who is anything but lazy. Maybe she can lose focus, but lazy is not a word anyone with intelligence would use to describe Serena.

First up, Amelie NEVER said she was full of confidence. Actually, IMHO, that's half her problem - she doesn't derive enough confidence from her successes.

Secondly, you know how everyone keeps pointing out that "Venus and Serena are not the same person"? Well having the same native tongue doesn't make Justine and Amelie the same person either so why would you assume that they would make the same mistakes?

I predict Serena will win but Justine is certainly in with a chance.

Justine even admits she has problems with Venus. Venus always tries to win before the match begins and has almost always succeeded in this. She stares, she shows no emotion, ...

Justine doesn't have this problem with Serena and she is convinced she can win against Serena.

What disturbs me is that Serena used the same tactics with Amelie. She tried to intimidate and it worked. She looked mean like hell. Justine has problems with this kind of behaviour.

Kim has less problems with this. She just plays her matches.

Justine normally has a good chance of winning against Serena, but I'm not sure she won't be intimidated by Serena.

The h2h favours Justine. She has almost never lost against Serena, Venus, Kim, Mauresmo and Capriati on clay and the matches that she lost, she should have won (eg. the semi final against Kim in 2001).

Nobody has won easily against Justine on clay. I can't believe she will lose with 2 and 1, but everything is possible.

One thing is sure, Justine and Kim were better than Mauresmo on clay this year (eg Mauresmo got a 6-0 from Kim in Rome).

I think serena is not that sure of herself this time either though since for two months now she says very often how bad she played in the FCC. if she was really so convinced about that then she would let it go I guess but she doesn't.

i have no feeling one way or the other that justine beat serena. actually i might have even liked serena to with that 5th in a row.

but

i must point out to teerexx to not be over-confident next time before a match. see what could happen?
