Oracene Price, mother and coach of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams, was questioned by the Paris police for about 45 minutes following the crushing victory of Serena over Amelie Mauresmo in the Roland Garros quarter finals.
"This was just a routine investigation for possible improprieties in the competition," lead detective, Jaque Meoffe, informed the the media after the questioning.
The investigation stems from the complaints of some French fans, some whom are bookmakers and at least one competitior, possibly a losing quarter finalist, who believe that Price masterminded a plot to have her daughter, Serena, lose a close match in Rome to Mauresmo, in order to bring up the betting odds in the event that the two would met in competition in Paris.
"It has long been thought that Richard Williams was behind the match fixing of the two Williams daughters, but I belive it was Orecence behind the scenes all along," said one Frenchwoman with a great backhand, who asked to remain anonymous.
Price was unavalable for comment as her agent informed the media that she was on the phone with her stock broker and would be shopping the rest of the day at Versace's.
