Has there been anyone who beat Kim and Justin back to back just like Kim did against the sisters at last year's year end championships?
For Serena to win her fifth consecutive slam, she will most likely have to accomplish this feat. Can she?

Didn't Lindsay do it in Zurich last autumn?

That's a very doable task for Serena, but which I guess that means Justine will have to sustain an injury, and then ret. in her match, then Serena would have to beat and exhuasted Kim in the final.

So Henin need to get injurred, and Nadia has to drag Kim all over the court during a long hard fought three setter before finally losing.

I'd rather have Serena crush both of them when they are seemingly in top form.

I dont think all that is necessary for Serena to accomplish this...It is very doable for Serena...:D

BTW, Kim did not really do it to the sisters...she won five games against an injured Venus...

Add serena to that list of Lindsay victims of USOpen 2000, though she was victimized by Venus in final, lol!!!!

Anyway, I think Lindsay used to do that before her injury. Seles might have done it also before.

You're right, Kim beat an injured Venus and an out-of-form Serena, so basically she didn't even really beat a Williams sister at that tourney :p

No she definetly beat Serena, being tired is not excuse for losing a match. All the players know how many matches it takes to win a tourney, not being fit enough to play that often is a lame excuse.

5-0 is a type of match being played on WTA. It is true that Venus
retired for an injury and by that Kim won. But when you are talking
about accomplishing something special as in the case of beating the
two sisters in one tournament then you don't include Kim Clijsters
because Venus did not finish that match.
I know of three who did fair and square:
Martina Hingis in 2001 Ausopen--how long it took her to do that? she
knows herself.
Sanchez Vicario- don't know the year but I am sure it was when Venus
and Serena were playing in every tournament.
and the third one should be Graf.
Martina herself admitted that it is not easy to beat both sisters in one
tournament. And I am so many players will also admit to that.

It would be nice to see SERENA run the table on Belgium, but she may have to play a Russian in the final. :)

Okay, okay this was not the topic and has been discussed too much here before

To go back on topic: has anyone beaten Kim and Justine back to back since their breakthrough year 2001 (or even since their RG semi-final that year)?

irma

indeed lindsay in zurich last year
she beat kim in the quarters and then justine in the semis

If Serena does it here it will be a great accomplishment as Kim and Justine are playing alot better than they were in 2001.

Sooooooooooo GO SERENA and do your thing.:)

Do you have any idea how ridiculous it sounds that you are still clinging to the "3 set Capriati rule" 7 months later?

Do you know how stuupid you sound. I've always felt being tired was a lame excuse and posted as much well before you posted your so called rebuttal. R.I.F.

Venus did at the Proximus Diamond Games 2003. Venus schooled both of them like 6-2 6-4 and 6-2 6-3

Well said disposablehero? He was loud and WRONG! I never used Serena being tired as an excuse for her season ending loss to Kim.

nope she never did. This year Kim beat Justine in the semis and yes, Venus beat Kim in the final. The year before Kim didn't play because of an injury and the year before The Proximus Diamond Games didn't exist.

Monica beat them in Fed Cup 2000.

As for the family double, Aranxta did it in 1998, Steffi in 1999. Martina was the only one to get the Williams double AFTER both of them were Grand Slam Champions and Top 5 players. :)

If no player has done it (when both Justine and Kim playing as well as they have of late)...I'm sure Serena can.

Whipping both Belgians back to back will solidify SERENA as one of the all time greats. :)

Really? I thought winning more than 5 GS titles and being #1 for over 150 weeks would mean more than beating two players who have never won a GS title or been ranked higher than #2 and #3 respectively.

It sure does solidify her validity at the very top by doing it en route to her 5th straight major title.

Because there are only finger-count tourneys they played together.
