Why does Nadia Petrova make a muscle with her right arm and point to it after she wins a match at Roland Garros? I've noticed her do that a couple times this tournament. But the funny thing is Petrova doesn't have any muscle definition in her arms! LOL! :p Nadia has just about the least developed arms I've ever seen! And she has skinny legs, too. She really needs to hit the weightroom! But Nadia sure has alot of natural power in her strokes. Just think of how much more potent her shots would be if she actually developed some muscle.

It looked to me as she is pounding her hand against her heart?

Good question. The Moroccan, El Anoyoalureljaljr does that as well.

I just read Nadia's interview. And she says she's going to continue to make a muscle with her right arm and point to it with her left hand. Maybe she thinks it brings her good luck.

LOL at DIVa! :D Good one!

Yoshie, that was well said. But Nadia's heart is stronger than her skinny arms. That's for sure. ;)

at least the gestures meant that she is confident and have the will and determination to win. :)

this only her way of motivating herself signifying that she's got the strength and heart to realize her dreams.;)

"strength of arm, strength of heart"

The cat, Eurosport commentators repeatedly mentioned that Nadia works very hard in the weightroom and takes it very seriously. The mere fact that her muscles are not so much visible as in other girls (e.g., Meghan or Serena) does not mean she has none. Lets say that she just has different constitution ;)

Its actually because she once served time in prison for armed robbery and on her parole was given a micro chip in her arm to trace her location at all times. She shouldnt even be at Roland Garros, and at night little voices call her from the arm and tell her she's going to be in trouble. When she wins a point, she's talking to them.

i watched her against Capriati and I have to say I was impressed.. it seemed she hit pretty hard, flat, and her shots were pretty fast.To me it seemed the Cap-Petrova match was faster than Venus-Zvonereva??

Well, well...
I saw Petrova in Rome from a few metres during a training session and she didn't like skinny at all, she's just very fit and she looks that thin because she's also very tall. In fact she was hitting on a court just beside the one where Daniela Hantuchova was hitting, and... well, if you call Nadia skinny, how would you define Hantuchova? A shadow?

Thanks for that info Mrs. Eggy!

LOL at Jon! :D

Andy, let's leave Dani out of this. But I would describe Daniela as Slender-Ella! ;)

Nadia's bulk seems to be concentrated around the middle area. Her extremities make her appear thinner than she really is. She looks potato-esque.

I have to disagree that it was a good match. Although it was tense and it was an important moment in both their careers it was riddled with errors (not surprisingly) and ugly. I think Brad Gilbert would have been proud of Petrova!

As for Zvonereva - it was the first chance I had to see her play and why does everyone rave about her?? She looks like your stock Russian player - good groundies and very average serve. If she is to live up to the expectation she is gonna have to learn how to serve much better. She should be able to as well, she is tall, strong, athletic and also seems to have a good tennis mind. Thinking about your serve and not just simply getting the ball in is surely key to developing a decent serve.

I guess everyone thinks that Kim will cruise tomorrow but I say this - everyone thought Monica would win, everyone thought Venus would win and the majority thought Vera would win.......

Should be an interesting match.

In the other semi - Serena will demolish Henin - although I would LOVE to be proven wrong by Justine!

I dont think Nadia is skinny at all. Shes very strong and well built. How can she be skinny? I havent seen her in a while but i cant imagine how she could be skinny.

Experimentee, Nadia has a very lanky build. Check out her puctures. By contrast, her friend and Compatriot Elena Dementieva who is about the same height of Nadia, has plenty of muscle on her frame.

And Penne1, I thought the Petrova - Capriati match was just outstanding. It was the Zvonareva - V. Williams match that was an error filled but still exciting match. I think you got the Russian girls mixed up! ;)

Could it be that that gesture has some Arabic roots? That's the only thing I can think of that Nadya and Yones have in common.
