LLEYTON HEWITT and Kim Clijsters are talking about tying the knot, the Belgian revealed here today.

World No.2 Clijsters, who has reached the quarter-finals at the French Open and will turn 20 on Sunday, the day after the women's final, said that she and her world No.1 boyfriend Hewitt, who has already been eliminated from the tournament, have discussed getting married.

"We do talk about it sometimes," Clijsters told French television. "But I'm still young. I'm going to be 20 in a few days. Lleyton, he's 22. So I think we have time."

But Clijsters admitted that she is considering a change in residency because of the amount of taxes she pays in Belgium, and did not rule out becoming an Australian citizen.

"People have been saying a lot of things. I'm thinking about changing residency, and I spend a lot of time in Australia, but I'm really happy to go home from time to time."

Clijsters' father, Leo, a former Belgian international soccer player, revealed that she pays the taxman between 50 and 60 per cent of her earnings, much less than soccer players in Belgium.

The player from the northern Flemish-speaking part of Belgium admitted that her life has totally changed since reaching the finals here two years ago when she was catapulted to the status of national heroine.

"My life completely changed after the 2001 finals. When I returned all the street was covered with flags," said Clijsters, who hopes to become the first Belgian ever to win a Grand Slam event.

"I realise how important it is for people, particularly when you play in Paris there are a lot of Belgians who come."

Clijsters, who has won 12 WTA titles, takes on Spain's former Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez, the 24th seed, for a place in the semi-finals.

I'm assuming she pays a higher percentage b/c she makes more and she is in a higher tax bracket then soccer players or ???

LMAO, I saw that interview on French TV and she denied becoming an Australian citizen. She said the only thing she was considering was changing residency, but never citizenship.

well, ready for a tax lesson? ;)

this is belgium's income tax:
25 % on the part between 0,01 EUR and 5.705 EUR
30 % on the part between 5.705 EUR and 7.565 EUR
40 % on the part between 7.565 EUR and 10.785 EUR
45 % on the part between 10.785 EUR and 24.800 EUR
50 % the part between on 24.800 EUR and 37.185 EUR
52 % above 37.185 EUR

Belgium is know for it's very high tax level, but you also get one of the best social security systems (and one of the best countries to live in). Off course, if you have loads of income, you have to contribute more than you get.

btw: about football: there's a different system for top football players. They have to pay less social security payments, and can stop easier. The government is checking to make this system available for all top sportmen & sportwomen, and Clijsters statements may well be made in order to make this change go faster ;).

Well, I haven't seen Lleyton cut the flowers around the court for a bouquet like he did last year.

Doesn't the article say that she pays LESS THAN the soccer players?
