poor jordan. my friends had them. they said the first two weeks would be pure hell. then you get adjusted to it and it doesn't hurt so much. painkillers would help. a friend of mine took advil twice each time it hurt ( so basically by the end of the day she was like drugged or something, it was so funny). try not eating anything hard right now. you'd be amazed at how some people could survive eating off noodles and soup for two weeks.

Hi Jordan! I know what you are going through. But I've done the braces thing TWICE! I first had them from ages 12-14. I thought that would be the end of it, right? WRONG! I hit a growth spurt around 15 and the doctors think that my top and bottom jaws grew wrong. So, in November of 2000 (at age 20) I had to get braces a second time! I also had to have both of my jaws broken and reset. I got my braces off in August of 2001 (right before I turned 21). After my surgery I drank soup and milkshakes for about 4 weeks. Just take some Advil and be patient. The pay will slowly wear off! Good luck!

Sorry to hear you're in pain. Well just try to think about when you get them off and people are gonna say how nice you're teeth are. Heh-heh :)

They are not that bad. I used to wear them some time ago. They only hurt for a week but then I got used to them. The main problem with me was that they kept falling out and my dentist was getting really mad at me as I was visiting her a bit too often

I had to wear braces for more than two years, ages 14 till16. It hurt every now and then, especially after the dentist tightened them. What I hated most though were the rubber bands! They'd snap every time I opened my mouth and it was such a hassle to put those thingies round those hooks. And of course, I used to have lots of little wounds in my mouth because of those hooks.

One month left for me! I hated, HATED them at first... now I kinda forghet they are there, except the band on the bottom one has snapped, so I might be held back a while.

Monica_rules, the opposite happened to me. I had train tracks right away (after having quite a few teeth removed, and I also had to wait until I didn't have any milk teeth left) and got a removable one after the tracks were gone. I only had to wear it night, the sole purpose was to keep my teeth the same. I don't have to wear them anymore.

I had them for two years. It was the worst two years of my life. Not because of the pain but they sort of put a damper on my social life, you know what I mean. Guys just don't want a certain sex act from a girl with braces! :p I thought I'd never bounce back!

I had braces for one-and-a-half years from 11 onwards, and they hurt but the results were worth it. Sadly a certain someone didn't bother her butt to wear her retainer all the time so now one side is still fine but the other is a tad crooked and I feel really conscious abput it. When you're 18 over here can you still get a brace for free as liong as you're still in full-time eduation?

argh

I was going to a zillion dentists since I was 6. I'm 19 now (yuck almost 20 :( ), and I still never had braces/retainers/whatever. There was allways something - either this tooth had to go out, or this one had to grow or this or that. Oh did I mention I genetically didn't have three teeth? :/ Good thing they were all at the same spot, so I had to just take out the fourth one.

Not sure what to do now. If I can do anything. :(

What Barrie says is true :o I've got braces and I hate them :fiery: About every month and a half I get these thick elastics put inbetween my teeth and it hurts like hell... they take them out a week later but that week is hell... I think it might even hurt more than when I got them put in

One of my "girls" got braces recently without telling me. That is really bad for someone who, how do I say it, must work with her mouth. I did not even know she had them until I was bargaining with a john for her, and he noticed the braces and was sort of put off. I was mad, but glad she was furthering herself. [Poe?] I thought about a movie I saw where someone said as a nonsensical cast-off line "I never did mind about the little things" and in a split second know what to say, thanks to that film, I simply said to the john, "She works with them" meaning the braces of course. That phrase works as well as "I never did mind about the little things." Needless to say, it worked!

Because it does hurt!

I used to have braces for 2 and a half years and every month I got them tightened, it felt like I hit my mouth againts the poll. Plus I couldn't eat anything other than soup.

I'm glad I'm not in that situation either.

beach guy, you can probably handle pain more than I can. And besides soup is good for you.
