View Full Version : Something Has Been Overlooked With All The "Celebration" Over Venus Losing Yesterday

And that is Jennifer's Capriati's slide this year. She started off the year at number three and with her 4th round loss at the FO yesterday, will be ranked eight, at least until the Eastbourne tournament, where she is scheduled to play next. She only reached the quarterfinals last year at Wimbeldon last year and though it is possible she could gain points, she could get a possible draw that could prevent that and she isn't as great on grass as the Williams sisters, Davenport, Mauresmo or Henin-Hardenne and it is possible she could meet one of them in the fourth round or quarterfinal.

People wrote Jenn off as washed up and "over" since pretty much the Fall of 2001. Only recently has it been determined that Venus is washed up and "over" as well, so her loss is getting more attention as I guess some are still holding out hope that she can rise again, while Jenn has been completely written off.

There is absolutley NO NEED for this thread what so ever.. its just being thrown out there to deflect Venus loss and thats well, lame.

If people want to talk about Venus, then let them talk. And it hasnt all been negative talk, like your elluding to. In the same aspect, if people want to talk about Jenny, then they will. We dont need people like you to make a thread about her, bashing her season.

For the love :fiery:

I refuse to believe that Venus is over and that is because she is still capable of winning a title, she just has to work on her forehand and her second serve, the weakest parts of her game. She was able to get away with it in the past becasue the other players weren't as good or could beat her, but that has changed and she will have to change also or she could find herself sitting at home or in the stands watching like Martina Hingis. Fortunately, she has realized this and is planning to play more tournaments and commit herself more to tennis.

jen is not "washed up" and "over" else she wouldnt be playin as well as she is.the only reason she didnt beat petrova yeaterday is because petrova is on fire! jenny played really well apart from a few serves and she is gettin back on form and im sure its the same for venus too.just give them a break its a tough season where they dont really get a break and are constantly training.its hard on everyonebut some players throw themselves into a game so much and give their all that the strain SOMETIMES shows.when this happens it does not mean that they are "washed up" and "over.

There is no need for threads saying Venus is over, but I don't see you complaining about that. Facts are facts. Yes, Venus lost, but she will at least fall to number four, possibly five from number two since January. Jennifer has fallen five ranking spots since January and if you want to go back to last year's FO when she was number one, she has actually fallen seven rankings spots since then.

Sorry, but that's signifcant.

i think that there is no point comparing the two because jenny may have fallen 7 places but that is since last year and she is still on fine form.the point is that unfortunately venus has deteriorated RAPIDLY and it is VERY noticeable!!!!!!!!!!!she is gonna fall hard!

But what do you benefit from pointing this out s what Im saying? Does it make you, as a hardcore Venus fan, to call Jenny out since your tired of hearing people talk about Venus's loss. I just think its lame.

And if you want to know why people are talking more about V than Jen, its obvious. I like both the girls, but Jenn's results have been pretty consistent this year, as well as last. Semis, some finals but unfortunatley she hasnt won tourney. V has been winning tournaments and well as been in mulitiple finals with her sister.. So of course its more of a shock when she goes out than Jenny...

If so, why then is she still number three? Plus her best season is coming up; the summer hardcourt, plus you can't count her out from Wimbeldon.

I am sick and tired of Jennifer knocking the Williams sisters sucess, especially Serena's.

u cant have it both ways mate
either jennys is number 7 and venus is number 3
or
jenny is number 8 and venus is number 3 4 or 5

pick rankings from either before or after the FO if ur gonna compare.

and for the record venus isnt gonna b number 3 anymore so u better come up with a better argument

u cant count jenny out either
it is a fact universally acknowledged that JENNY IS A FIGHTER!!!!!!
she is still a big contender for all the titles....or are all the papers wrong??????

As far as I'm concern, there is continuing hope for both. Until one or the other retires, I'll not count either out.

I agree with people saying this thread is pointless. JenCap has been improving constantly since the Aus Open, which is where her ranking plummeted, while frankly Venus's has deteriated quite rapidly.

I don't like slagging other people's faves off but at this moment in time Jen is heading up while Venus's form suggests she's slipping down.

To be honest Jen is at a worser point than Venus at this time. Although if Venus is not careful she could go down that same road.

We all know that nothing in SPORTS is forever. Alot of us assumed that Venus would dominate forever, then Serena took over. Just as now everyone is assuming Serena will dominate forever, but it won't last forever. What goes up must come down. The same with Kim/Justine(if it happens) they will rise and fall also. It's not the END OF THE WORLD GUYS.

Venus will be fine. She will make the necessary adjustments, and come back on fire. With her recent loses the other players are forcing her to focus on tennis instead of her business. I feel now is a crucial time for Venus, she must redeem herself and put in the time and effort or others will surpass her. I love my faves but I have to be honest about it, their is no more just showing up and expecting to win. There are too many dangerous players now.

As far as Jen is concerned, she will need to win a tournament before she can get the confidence back to challenge Kim, Justine, Serena etc. IMO, Jen use to be able break her opponents down mentally. But no more, it's not working. Noone is afraid of her, and I think it's good for the tour.

I think now we are seeing lower ranked players with a lot of self belief, which will only improve the quality of womens matches. Alot of the credit can be given to Venus and Serena. Everyone is getting better, faster, stronger, fitter, and mentally tougher.

Still hope my faves can beat them all though. ;) :D

if all the papers are telling you Jennifer's a contender for all the major titles, then yes, they are wrong.

facts are facts, regardless of what Venus is doing, Jennifer is sliding too. Apparently her eyes were the excuse for losing early in Australia. what's the excuse for Paris?

She'll be down to #8 in the world after the French and I don't think she's shown anything at all this year that makes me think she can win another major.

Jen could have won that match if she had changed her tactics and not played into nadia's hands. Oh well live and learn. Anyway I think the US has a great chance of sweeping the slams this year.

So you think you can honestley say that Jen is not a contender when going into these tournaments? She always is a contender, she has a great game, and that cant be denied. I mean she is on the the few that has pushed Serena, granted she hasnt beaten her in a while, but if she's able to push the best in the tour, then she deserves to be considered a contender.

And its hard to remember, espically when your not a Jen fan, but she hold 3 Grand Slam titles, and that also put her's in as a contender. They may be from last year, but she still holds those titles. Sure she hasnt been in her best form as of late, and I dont think any Jen fan would say she has been. But she has improved her fitness again, so in that way she is' moving up.' But to say she's not a contender IMO is just dumb.

True, Jen pushes the top-players. And loses. That's why she isn't a contender for slams right now IMO.
And I can't see in which department she has improved recently.

Yes she does push players, and anyone that is known to push players, espcially the top players, is a contender. Now if she didnt push them, then no she wouldnt be considered a contender....it just makes sense...

And her fitness has improved since the beginning of the season, atleast IMO. She has things to work on, thats true.. but she's still a top player.
