I hope this serves as a wake-up call for Venus, she put on a pathetic display. Venus played worse than her 97 form, at least back then her backhand was reliable.

Is STEFFI GRAF the only player capable of coming into a Grand Slam injurred and w/a lack of match play and still win? She showed the world her championship mettle time and time again, it's Venus's turn to step up and deliver.

Vera played a very smart scrappy match.

Looked to me from her press conference like she doesnt give much of a toss anymore. I think she's lost interest, certainly in winning Roland Garros ever and possibly in tennis a little bit in general.

If there's one thing i've learnt in this life, it's to never judge people by the appearance they put up for the public

How can you judge Vee by her attitude durindg a press conference for Godsakes?
What did you want her to do? Shed some tears?!!

I agree Venusgod, Venus would never want to reveal too much to the general public, but if you ask Oracene in two weeks how Venus took the loss, she'd probably say she was devastated.

Believe me you, Venus is not happy w/her play, or her current sliding ranking. Venus has a keen sense of history, and I have no doubt that she will come out fighting.

Let your injury heal properly, and get your ass back on the practice court, hopefully w/BJK in your ear.

This match was def. winnable. Venus let so many opp. to take the net, slip by, she has had a dramatic loss of confidence.

Does this loss mean that kim deserves the #2 ranking now?

Does this loss mean that kim deserves the #2 ranking now?

Nah, dont be silly, she doesnt deserve it because she plays too many tournaments and wins them, she's got "too easy a draw" at RG, she isnt black and her surname isn't Williams, she is a pesky no good European, she keeps her tennis in perspective and doesnt go crying too mummy when she loses, she is gracious in defeat to her opponents and is fantastic to her fans. :p

Kim is the number two ranked player in the world, based on the points she's earned, and the number of tournaments played.

Has she proven that she's a better player than Venus? NO If Kim does better at Wimbledon(her worst surface) I might concede, but I want to see them play ea. other.

I have to agree, I think Venus is taking the money and running, she knows she can return to her comfortable pad and nurse her bruised ego. Whereas these Russians are starved, wounded and blighted by -10F in which they live. They intend to mechanise their groundies to the point where they would be unbeatable. I like Andrew Castle's last words on Eurosport yesterday ..... 'the russians are coming'. Venus can go home and contemplate whether she wants to go to school, an office or just count her millions.

It's all about hunger at the end of the day and in a way I understand her dilemma. How do you motivate yourself to topple someone you love so much and want to protect?.

I do not think it is good at all for Venus. It is like saying a Broadway flop (I have had ONLY A FEW, while Neely HAS HAD SEVERAL) makes you a better performer. No, it does not. It just erodes your confidence more. If Venus is a barracuda, like me, then she will bounce back, but a loss of rankings and getting shit-canned in the Round of 16 is bad all around. It is like saying that losing a bunch of money in an investment is good because you can write it off. Maybe, but it is much better to have a profitable investment and pay taxes on it.

Venus has known for close to a year that she needed to improve things. I do not think this loss changes that, it just makes it worse because Serena is not the only person who can beat her now. She will bounce back if and when she wants to.

Aren't there some off broadway acting msg. boards somewhere? Good grief. If you get a shitty script even the best actor can't make it Tony/Oscar worthy.

I've seen plenty of players suffer a crisis of confidence and bounce back

Navratilova/Evert/Graf/Seles/Hingis/Davenport/Capriati/Conchita/Serena/........

I think you should mention Monica as well.
I think Venus is pretty smart young girl, and she doesen't need any bad loses to wake up, but maybe she doesn't want to wake up
