The very hyped Venus vs Jennifer will not happen, not even close. I'm sure many people are disappointed because first the Venus/Jennifer matches are VERY RARE and also because let's face it Venus/Jennifer is much more interesting and much more coverage/money then Zvonereva/Petrova. But great tennis from the 2 russians!

I think the all-Russian match should be excellent quality. Of course neither is as well known as Venus or Jen, but that might end up being a draw - people may want to get a look at two upcoming players.

When i saw the draw i never imagined that this would be the quater final. One upset yes but two not to mention lindsay! Well Vera and nadya enjoy! Congratulations.

Who would have predicted that for a quarter-final?!
The whole day has been a tough day for the seeds. Oh boy!

Isn't Petrova the one who knocked out Seles? She is having a great tournament - where did this come from?

If not for her injury last year, Nadya would be top 20 EASY right now, even top 10.

Nadya & Lina missed more time from injury last year then Lindsay & Chanda did.

I dont really know who could win this match.

But doesnt Vera list her most memorable momment as being beaten by nadia 6-0 6-0. Maybe its time for a little revenge!

I'm very happy a Russian woman will be in the semifinals of a grand slam for the first time since Elena Dementieva made the semi's at the 2000 U.S. Open.

Udachi Vera and Nadia! :bounce:

This is what I found under Zvonareva's bio in the official site:

"Two pet peeves are people without a sense of humor and people who donít tell the truth...Most memorable experience was losing to Nadia Petrova 60 60 at age 8."

.......hmmmmmmm, wierd.

the cat - has there been a Russian women in the SF of the Australian Open? We will have one in the French semifinal this year (and Zvereva made it back in the late 80s). Zvereva and Kournikova each made a SF at Wimbledon. Dementieva, as you said, made the SF at the U.S. Open. That leaves the Australian Open - has any Russian woman made at least the SF there?

Actually Petrova had great results in 2000 or 2001 along with Lina K. however both got injured and it hasn't been until this year when they're playing nicely again.
Good luck to them and may the best win
*waiting for a profesional in Russian tennis' correction *

I hope Vera wins! She's one of my fave pre-schoolers!

Of course, I'm devastated that Vee vs. Jen won't happen, yet AGAIN! It was slated for Miami and didn't pan out there, either! ARGH! That is truly the forbidden match. Get well soon, Venus and better luck next time, Cap. WE WILL SEE VEE VS. JEN THIS YEAR. Well, we better. :fiery:

I hope they can keep the level of play
when facing each other, and then onto the
semi finals. Remember when someone posted
who would be the most surprising RG winner
this year? If it were Nadia or Vera it
would surely be the biggest surprise since
Iva Majoli won back in 1997. Is this sort of
thing good for either of these players? Can they
handle the fame or even the spotlight in a
final of a grand slam?

Nadia has the advantage in this encounter but Vera could frustrate Nadia with her tenacity.

May the best lady wins!!!! both of you are winners already regardless of the results!!!!

I will not be surprised if Petrova wins this really easy, like 6-2 6-2
