Venus and lindsay and Jen have fallen but Serena and Chanda are still standing tall.

Venus hampered by lack of tournament preparation and coming off an injury has taken out by Vera while Veteran Conchita vanquished Lindsay when she was forced to retire. Jen stunned by Nadia Petrova. Oh well both Nadia and Vera played great. Jen and Venus will get revenge on grass and hardcouts. The clay can be such a fickle mistress.

Still We have Winners Serena and chanda holding up the US name. GO SERENA GO CHANDA. And now GO NADIA AND VERA AND CONCHITA for the bottom half!!!

I want the serena slam to continue marching forward but I will be delighted with a Chanda Win or Jen Win!

GO TEAM USA!

I know Vee was coming off an injury and lacked match preparation...but she sucked today based on her stats...the amount of errors was outrageous even by her standards...

I hope this will inspire Serena to fight hard to bring home the title...

I mean...how pathetic do u feel when u lose a match and your opponent only hit 13 winners...

Wow it was a shocking day for the bottom half of the draw. I was very sad for Lindsay, she came in playing some good tennis  Venus of course I am devastated  But she is a fighter she will rise again. Jen just got unlucky Nadia was too good today, but she should not loose hope.

Congrats still to the American ladies :bounce:

Watching the match now...pathetic...

I have never seen anyone miss so many fh's in a row...

Another is how Venus failed to come to net...she hit tons of great shots and Vera kept running them down and instead of coming to net behind them, Vee stayed back and eventually hit a UE off the FH

Vera played very smart she hit EVERYTHING to Vee's FH

Go Serena! Go Go Justine! Go Go Vera! Go Kim!

I want a non-USA final. But Belgium-Russia or Belgium-Belgium would be very nice!!!

best best better

Venus certainly helped to dig her own grave in that match. No agression. No trying to capitalise on the 2nd serve of Zvonereva - or anything remotely half-court.

Europe's on the march for now... but we'll see what the rest of the year brings.Chanda's been quietly moving her way through the draw, but I think (and hope) that her run will come to an end with the next match.

Yes vera did play smart. She worked that forehand over and over and over.

BJK should have called venus before this match and told her to move in to the net!
