this is a bit too much:

Q. It was suggested on TV that the only person that can beat you is you. How accurate do you think that is?
SERENA WILLIAMS: Yeah, I think that's definitely a hundred percent accurate. I mean, all the matches I've lost I've pretty much beaten myself. It's not like I went out and did everything I could have done and played great, was just amazing. It hasn't been. It's been that way for a couple years now. Whenever I lose, it's not because the girl I lost to just played an outstanding match; :fiery: it's normally because I'm making 80 errors, just not doing the things I need to do.
So I think that's a very accurate statement.

Serena, I love you girl, you are da bomb, but this is not right. I still love you though.

this girl is soooo cocky! I mean, come on, sometimes her opponents also make mistakes and still win!

nobody else makes unforced errors, right?

so you can say that if Ai played to her full potential today, she would have won...

Serena, you are turning annoying very quickly :o

Her cockyness has been debated to death on this board...The only thing that you are intertested in doing is inviting haters to come and bash...look at the very first response...

You still love her...Yeah right...

Topshotta, I am not saying Serena has not given Ai any credit at all. I am just saying that the padding on her shoulder is a bit excesive.

Haters are going to hate no matter what, this is my opinion and if your opinion is that she is right by making that kind of statement then so be it. If you think I hate her because I don't agree with what she says, deal with it.

Let me give you a bit of advice:

If you don't like Serena, stop watching her matches. Especially her interviews.

In her ESPN interview she said that she made too many errors, and AI played well. What more do you want her to say?

I know:

The other girls are the best in the world, they can beat me all the time.

THE ONLY PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS COMMENT ARE THE FANS.

FOR YOU HAVE PLAYERS AND COMMENTATORS OUT THERE MAKING THE SAME COMMENT AND AGREEING WITH SERENA.

if all the players are playng at their peak it (against Serena) and Serena is playing at her peak Serenas results show she will nearly always win. Serena knows that. She is number 1, shes gotta have full belief in her abilities. If she did not have such a confident frame of mind she would probably not be number 1.

everyone please quit using the word "haters"! My gawd...people I seriously don't think they HATE Serena.

She is annoying, however, and the cockiness is really unnecessary. She may be number one but that doesn't necessarily mean that she is invincible. She rarely gives anyone credit for beating her or playing well against her. Its really starting to make me sick...

If it annoys you than why in the fuck do you even bother?! As Pureracket said, dont read her interviews, watch her matches or even fucking bother with her. And besides, if you read her interview instead of whinning and boohooing about how your favorite player got zero credit   you would see that she did indeed give Ai credit, saying that she played very well.

see here is where again you are just confused or something. when serena wins or looses, her opponets have been playing well.

when she looses her opponents are playing (and 90% of the time the same when they lost to serena) serena is just so much better that when she is on, and her opponents are playing good anyway, serena still kills her opponents.

Serena is the only player on the tour right now, her best will kill her opponents best, her worst will still get her 3 set wins, or 3 set losses. As bad and off serena gets and her opponents are playing well she still takes them to 3 sets. do you see the big piture here yet?

Babygirl just being honest and keeping it real. She's the best! And she always gives credit. Here's what she said in her interview after she beat Ai.

Q. Can you talk about the match? Did she play really well? Was it more what you were doing?
SERENA WILLIAMS: You know, I think she played very, very well. I made a lot of errors and I wasn't hitting my contact point where I wanted to. I was slightly off today.

BABYGIRL is always gracious and beautiful. People, stopping hating on the princess! She is very nice. In fact, in her interview today, she said VERY nice things about both Martinas and Monica.

Everyone else was just talking about themselves in their post match interviews. Those selfish bitches! ;)

SERENA, on the other hand, was paying tributes to other tennis players who weren't even in the matches today!!! She's ALL CLASS ALL THE TIME!!! :hearts:

This issue about how much Serena's opponents affect the outcome of her matches is a complex one. Because she is so dominant in every department, it's true that she has a bigger influence on her matches than perhaps any top player in the history of the game; when she does lose, she usually has an abornmally excessive amount of errors and sloppy shots.

But the bottom line is, you simply cannot say that your opponents have no bearing on whether you win or lose. From the way Serena says it, you'd think she was just standing there feeding shots over the net to an empty court in all her matches, and it's only whether she keeps her shots in that truly matters. That's insulting to every player out there who has beaten her, and completely unfitting behaviour for a world no. 1. If she's the best player in the world, she should start acting like one.

Erm, I think starr's using the term 'bottom dweller' to suggest that you're a creature that lurks at the bottom of a pond, not a bottom dweller in an anatomical or sexual sense. Is that actually what you're saying? Apologies if I've misread the situation, it happens a lot...

Sorry, but I don't get why people keep bringing this quote up. She has alot of belief in her game, it's not that serious. She always gives her opponents credit, but IMO that's something that alot of you don't want to see. You guys only want to point out anything you intrepret as cocky or rude.

She gives them all credit, it's like you people want her to say they are all the best and they can beat me every time we play. No player in their right mind will say that.

Serena is a perfectionist, and in every interview she is always criticizing her game.

STOP READING OR WATCHING HER INTERVIEWS LOOKING FOR ANY AND EVERYTHING TO GRIPE ABOUT!!!!

Here's what she said about a Amelie. Now tell me she's not gracious or classy!

Q. One of Amelie's biggest weapons is her down-the-line backhand. Is it easy or difficult to read where she's going with that ball?
SERENA WILLIAMS: Actually, I think she hits a cross-court almost better. Every time -- I played her last time, she was hitting some great balls cross-court.
I don't really focus on which person's side is better or what's -- going, they hit this at this degree and this angle. Normally when I'm out there, I focus on what I'm going to do.

Do you really think that Serena is more dominant than any player in the history of the game? No doubt that when playing well she is on a level above her opposition, but to me, Graf dominated in her day even more than Serena has. Of course, I'll eat these words if Serena captures the Grand Slam this year. But Graf would make insane numbers of errors in a match and still win the match. It drove me crazy that no one could make her pay for those errors. There were a couple of people who could give her trouble on a given day, but she smoked her opposition. And I say this as someone who never liked Graf or her game.

And here's what she said when asked about Hingis! Babygirl is SO NICE and BEAUTIFUL! She said very complimentary things about a girl who has said nasty things about Serena and Venus!!!

Q. Do you miss good old Martina Hingis?
SERENA WILLIAMS: Of course. She was a joy to -- she was always fun. She was always smiling. I enjoyed playing her. Yeah, definitely miss her (laughter).
She was always really nice to me. When I was younger, it was different, because I was coming up, I didn't know much. You know, once I got to know her, she was really nice. Definitely kind of miss her being around. But she's happy now.

Love ya Serena! You're ALL CLASS!!! :hearts:

I don't read her interviews, I have better things to do with my life. However, when I see yet another quote in which she categorically states that she is the only one who influences her matches, and that her opponents have nothing to do with it, then I feel entitled to criticise her attitude. After all her recent losses, I've seen little praise for her opponent and endless criticism of her own game.

It reminds me of Hingis losing the AO doubles final a few years ago and then saying afterwards to Rennae Stubbs, on the opposing team, "Have you ever seen me play so badly?" For Stubbs, who had just won the biggest title of her life in front of her home crowd knowing it was her only chance to do so, it was an arrogant statement that completely ignored the part that she had played in that match.

Is this thread another attempt to pollute GM more than it already is? Haven't we already established that the people who think Serena is arrogant think that saying yeah she played well but I played like crap isn't giving credit? And haven't we established that the people on the other side of the coin think that giving credit followed by an I played like crap comment is still giving credit? I say yes to those questions so what's the point of this thread... it's not going to accomplish anything except start fights and allow people to use the word hater an excessive amount. Those who find Serena arrogant do and does who don't, don't so there is no purpose for threads like these!
