happy that patty pushed her and started playing well again, but upset that unforced errors in the third brought about patty's downfall. she had such a big opportunity for a GS semi.

oh well, if she keeps working with rainer harnecker then next year i believe she will make up for it!

Don't get me wrong here, I'm extremely happy Justine won but Patty played better imo. She was a bit more aggressive and her serve was good. Patty is so unpredictable. She came up with amazing winners and then she made stupid mistakes. Justine her serve was off today. I think she has to play better to defeat Chanda (if she wins) in the next round.

i agree. i think justine is very lucky to come out of this match the winner. the four unforced errors from patty at 4-2 henin in the third was the telling point because that game still went to deuce, and if patty got it there would have been a huge momentum shift.

My opinion was that it could go any way in the beginning of the third set.
This win tells more about Justine.
She still has to work on her network cause today that wasn't good at all and her serve. Yet we saw an agressive Juju and some great points (ok from bolt sides)
But if she can win this, she is ready for more cause Patty isn't the easiest to play and win against.
Good match of bolt girls ...
What Patty needs to learn is to be patient and keep her game constantly cause she is definitly someone who can shock in tennis

Very lucky?
don't get me wrong Patty played a great match but if she hits UE's why does Justine has luck than?
Patty needs to take risks but if she isn't able to take the points she looses the match (hehe)
Justine forced her to take risks, Patty did the same for Justin and the 'best' one won, the one who made less UE's at the end

Justine didn't play that well, too many DF and UE. Patty played better than I expected.

I'm happy it was a bit of difficult match, bolt knew it would be a hard match and they prooved that they bolt wanted to go for it ...

Patty, and those drop shots from the baseline.
The brain cramp came in set number 3; but
I'm still happy with her performance- see she
can play and compete. I do believe if she didn't
dump those first 2 games in set number 3, Patty
would've won it.

It was refreshing to see real clay courters take
the stage for a change this week in the women's
draw.

i am not trying to take away from justine's win, what i meant by justine being 'lucky' was that patty made a chunk of unforced at the crucial times, whereas justine's where more scattered thoughout the match. i don't mean that luck is the only factor or anything but rather that patty's errors came at a lucky time for justine, because they essentially handed her the match. i don't know what the definition of an unforced error was for this match because from what i saw unforced errors were being recorded from very deap and powerful shots from both players.

anyway, bad 'luck'( ;) ) patty, congrats justine. now i hope chanda gets through and can get revenge for patty (chanda is my second fav so nothing against justine)

Well done Justine and Patty. Justine is still playing it out tough. Patty showed again she can play like a top 10 (5?) player. The UE figures are probably as useless as they have been all FO, but you do wonder what would have happened if Patty had not gone off in her first game of the last set. Graf used to have a rest after 6-7 good games but it proved costly for Patty.
Have you seen the lovely match stat at the FO site. Fastest serve Patty 239kph!!!! I don't know what the truth of that was (not 239) but if it stays on the site she gets some record ?

SHIT!!!! i really have to make a big correction to my post. "if she keeps working with RAINER HARNECKER"....OMG i can't believe i wrote those words, i can't even believe i could accidently write them. I meant to say Eric Van Harpen! i had this suddenly sick feeling in my guts while i was watching the tennis and then i realised i wrote those evil, evil words. i don't like patty's current rainer, but i would never wish harnecker would come. sorry to anyone who read it and i thought i was fan of the orange juice guru

best best better

As both a fan of Patty and Justine this was a pretty good result.

Patty did play better than Justine overall, but her walkabout at the beginning of the 3rd set did the real damage.

As for Justine, I honestly think that these first 4 matches have been all about controlling her nerves. I think she so wants to get to the 'business end' of this tournament, that she's almost forgetting how to play. Her next match is against Rubin which is another really tricky one that has '3-setter' written all over it.

But a great birthday present for Justine anyways! :D

well the main thing is Justine is through. Congratulations Justine and Happy Birthday :D

Patty should have won this match - she coasted the second set, mainly because she was varying her game and Justine was misfiring.

At the start of the third set she just let Justine roll over her after she missed that volley in the second game.

A real shame really, but still Justine had to win it so congrats to her.

Good Luck to Justine tomorrow against Rubins!! If she wins, she pulls to #3 in the rankings.

It's "both", not "bolt" :)

I'm very happy Justine won, difficult or not, the win is that counts. Congrats Justine!
