View Full Version : AUSSIES going good in $25 challenger

May 31st, 2003, 11:59 PM

just reading and fond out that 5 aussies played quailies in a challenger and 4 made it through - would have been 5 but 2 played each other

with an incredibly lucky draw no 2 play each other in the final round so we could have a few more players joining Samantha Stosur and maybe Racheal McQuillian in the main draw.

This is great to finally se some good results from those outseide the top 200 and perhaps this is the kick start some need to start or resume promising careers and get some confidence leading into Wimbledon and Us Season

Most likely Rachel McQuillan will play Surbiton and I really hope she will play!

McQuillan pulled out of Surbiton and is not playing singles!!!!!!

Hardly good results.

Bryanne should have thrashed Melissa Berry, cant believe she lost a set.

Sekulowski scrapped the first set against a player against an injured opponent!

McShea beat a girl ranked below 1000!!!!!

and Musgrave won the battle of the 2 aussies.

Not as impressive as it looks! Anyway hope some confidence came out of those wins. I'd be surprised if more than 1 qualified but I hope all 4 do!

Oh really? :(

If the opponents were a little tougher I'd be more optimistic ;)

Anyway we'll see how they go in the next round...will be a lot tougher and I'm not expecting anything really...

BTW, dont forget Dubravka Cupac who is playing qualifying in $25K Seoul :) She should take advantage of a weak draw and do well there. I think Mireille Dittmann is the only other Aussie entered? (main draw). Players like Van Elden, Breadmore and Adamczak should have entered this too.

Yes i know its not really good but besdies Evie taken venus to 3 sets in the 2nd round there haent been much too cheer abuot lately.

Nicole has alot f poitns to defend to . . . . . . ..
Evie will lose some places after only making second round
Same as Wheeler - 1st round though

not a good future ahead but hopefully even if these wins are againgst 10000000 ranked people its still a win!!! and the aussies need some practice and besides when an aussies 350th ranked plays a 40th ranked american we still cheer the same for outr player as the americans

Thats also great to see others playing other tournaments too, wish wheeler, watson and graheme would play too, also wish the Wta would puublish the draws for challengers and futures on there website like the atp tour website does.

p.s. the good thing is that our girls did really shit in wimbledon and us open so there are heaps of points there for the offering!!!!!

(13)Musgrave bt Sewell 6-7(4) 6-3 7-5  :fiery: :fiery: :fiery:
shit nicky really wanted you to win this one and get your confidence going was close at least so hopefully you will take some positives from the match

mcshea defeated 2-lee in str8 sets so that was another good result
and also stewart got through dont know about beti and trudi's second round results

Jun 3rd, 2003, 06:18 AM
Only bri anne and lisa made it through, and they bith have very winnable matches in the main draw

unfortunately beti lose a close 3 setter and trudi was well out played by a jap player.

its still awesome news that we have 3 women in the main draw and have others in draws around other tourneys, could be a good week ofr aussie tennis

Molik is stil goin strong in RG doubles too thats great to see hat atleast one aussie chick can do seomthing good at RG

Jun 3rd, 2003, 06:44 AM
Evie is playing doubles with Stosur here! Wonder why she didnt enter the singles?

Some other higher ranked players are in the doubles draw including Granville, Tanasugarn and Bartoli.

Jun 3rd, 2003, 06:56 AM
I think the reaons that evie and racheal didnt play singles in becuase they passed the date for admission since they were still in doubles and mixed doubles at rolland garos.

Of course both lose and thats bad luck but get some practice playing doubles and get ready for wimbledon

Well that was short lived

holy shit just about every aussie girl in the world lost there match as colourfully illustrated by oz fan in most threads

THE FUTURE IS BREAK . . . . . . . . . . . . PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG!!!!!!!

I dont think we have ever had such a bad tournament here!!!

This is the worst showing of Aussies here ever!

Not a single aussie into the 2nd round, thats disgraceful! Considering we have had several Aussies win this event in recent years.

McQuillan, Evie, Wheeler and Breadmore should be shot for not playing here! I can understand that Rachel may have pulled out of singles to avoid possible fines but no excuses for the others.

Well when I looked at the draw I knew it wasn't going to be pretty

Good efforts from Lisa and Bryanne to qualify...but I knew they'd lose in the first round. Disappointed Bryanne let a 4-1 lead slip in the first set! Had she won the set, she would've won the match I feel. Also disappointed in Stosur's effort...I mean, Baltacha is good but I honestly don't see much of a difference between them. Bally just has more grass experience and I guess that was the telling factor.

Would've been good to see Evie and Rachel in the singles.

evie could get there in time for singles apparently
wonder which idiot decided dellacqua should play french juniors instead of surbiton qualies
