Serena Williams vs Ai Sugiyama

Winner: Serena
I would be shocked if Ai wins more than 3 games.

Magui Serna vs Amelie Mauresmo

Winner: Mauresmo
Mauresmo has been playing ok and she wont go all the way, but should get past no weaponds Serna.

Justine Henin-Hardenne vs Patty Schnyder

Winner: Justin
I still think Justin is a chocker, not as big as Clijsters but Schnyder does not have what it takes to beat Justin.

Chanda Rubin vs Petra Mandula

Winner: Rubin
Never seen Mandula before so will go with seeding.

Jennifer Capriati vs Nadia Petrova

Winner: Capriati
This is hard to pick Petrova has good serve but averages about 83 MPH which is to Capriati likeing, though Capriati isn't any much better.. but this could be an upset..however I will go with mrs Manners.

Vera Zvonareva vs Venus Williams

Winner: Venus
With Venus power game she could easily be able to break Zverareva because serving is her weakness. I give Venus about 3 games to get settle then watch Venus curtsy to the QF.

Lindsay Davenport vs Conchita Martinez

Winner: Martinez
Martinez used to have Davenport numbers which ended over the last two years,, however, I see Martinez waltzing away with victory.

Magdalena Maleeva vs Kim Clijsters

Winner: Clijster
hopefully, Maleeva can make this a match.

Yu can tell people consider Jenn a real threat for this title- they are almost praying she will lose. She will win something like 7-5 6-4. Petrova has never beaten her and doesnt look good enough to do it. Also Lindsay and Chanda will win there matches. The top women in this tourney are all playing well enough to progress, and all will.

SerenaJWilliams was just asking me on MSN to do the predictions for round 4 as well because I did such a great job in the third round! (13 out of 16 right :))
So here they are:

Serena Williams vs Ai Sugiyama
Williams 6-3 6-3

I cannot see Serena struggling here. Ai will fight hard and retrieve to the end, but she has nothing except determination to hurt Serena with.
Serena 6-2 6-1

Magui Serna vs Amelie Mauresmo
Mauresmo 7-5 6-3

Magui has been playing exceptionally well on clay this year, but can she claim a real scalp? It's her best chance, given that Amelie might be nervous, but I think Amelie will come through this test with the help of the crowd.
Amelie 7-5 6-3

Justine Henin-Hardenne vs Patty Schnyder
Henin-Hardenne 6-3 6-1

Which Patty will turn up for this? She has the game for clay, and the sort of awkward shotmaking to trouble any player, but then she'll be facing variety-queen Henin-Hardenne who will thrive on the topspin rallies. If Justine is nervous, Patty will take advantage, but only if she's totally committed to going a round further and fighting it out. I'll go with Justine though.

Justine 6-2 4-6 6-2

Chanda Rubin vs Petra Mandula
Rubin 6-4 6-0

This is Petra's chance to shine. She seems to be the perennial 40-60 ranked player who hardly ever scores an upset. This match could be the most important of her career. Chanda, though in form, is not that comfortable on clay, and will need to be very focussed. I think we're seeing a revived Chanda who will not lose this type of match. Whether she can go further, though, is unlikely.

Chanda 6-4 7-6

Jennifer Capriati vs Nadia Petrova
Petrova 6-3 6-2

Jennifer has to come out sharp, because Nadia is confident and not easily unnerved. Jennifer will not want this close. That pressure may hurt Jennifer, but ultimately she just has much more game.

Jennifer 6-3 6-4

Vera Zvonareva vs Venus Williams
Williams 6-0 7-5

Venus seems to have sharpened up her game, and knows this will be a test. I think she'll play relaxed and leave Vera to make an impression. I don't think Vera's there yet, and will put too much pressure on herself.

Venus 6-2 6-2

Lindsay Davenport vs Conchita Martinez
Davenport 6-3 6-2

I'm sure Lindsay will have some doubts going into this match. Conchita used to own her, and has seriously picked up her game again in the last 9 months. Conchita seems to be winning the close matches now, and causing some upsets for the first time in ages. Lindsay has a minor injury problem, but it could play a part if this goes a long way. Conchita, certainly, will fight to the end - she wants to do really well here. I think Conchita has more heart, and that Lindsay's shoulders will slump once again.

Conchita 2-6 6-4 6-3

Magdalena Maleeva vs Kim Clijsters
Clijsters 6-4 6-3

Maggie has an unimpressive record in slams - she's only reached a slam quarter final ONCE in her career, and that was 11 years ago. Her performances at the French are even less impressive. She's fought well to get here, but now she plays an in-form Clijsters who's been tearing through the field. Can't see Maggie producing anything to worry Kim. Sadly.

Kim 6-2 6-1

S Williams vs Sugiyama 6-2 6-3

Ai will try her hardest and run everything down, but Serena will always have too much.

Mauresmo vs Serna 6-4 7-5

I think Mauresmo knows this will be a struggle unless she focuses on the job. And with that incentive, she'll have too much extra spin and muscle for Serna.

Henin vs Schnyder 7-5 6-3

Schndyder won't be outhit - she'll hit herself to defeat. She'll test Justine, but she'll let herself down.

Rubin vs Mandula 3-6 6-4 6-4

Rubin will probably be shocked by Mandula - to begin with. Rubin has a lot of sitcking power these days, though, and I think gradually she'll wear the Hungarian down.

V Williams vs Zvonareva 6-4 6-1

Venus will raise her level and Zvonareva will only cope for so long with the pace and the athleticism.

Capriati vs Petrova 6-4 6-3

Will be a hard-hitting duel, but Jen always has the strength to handle pace, and the important ability to retrieve well. That combination will finally be Petrova's undoing.

L Davenport vs C Martinez 7-6 6-2

I think Martinez will test Lindsay, but Davenport knows the mistakes she once made against Conchita, and will be aiming to run the Spaniard around. I'm not convinced Martinez is able to cover the corners of the court so well, nor get the depth on her spins that she once did.

After a close first set, Lindsay will over-power Conchita. It's the most interesting match-up of the last 16, though.

Clijsters vs Maleeva 6-2 6-1

Clijsters will return everything Maleeva throws at her with maximum interest. As long as Kim's okay, there's only one winner.

Of the Round of 16 matches tomorow, the only three players I see getting the quarterfinals without troube are Serena, Justine and Kim. The others (in order) are ripe for an upset:

Lindsay
Jennifer
Chanda
Venus
Amelie

I say this becasue with Lindsay's toe bothering her and her lackluster sucess on red clay, I think she can be beaten by Conchita. Jennifer played Petrova in Rome and the score was 6-3, 7-5, the difference in each set is a break of serve, so if Jennifer's serve is off and Nadia's game is very good, then Jennifer will be beaten. Venus has never played Vera and if she loses her rhythm, then she will be beaten too. Contrary to popular belief, Amelie has been playing a medicore French adn if her serve is off, she could be beatn by Magui, but the chances of that happening will be slim if Magui sprays unforced errors like she did in her third round match.

serena def sugiyama 6-2, 6-3

serena will not play that well but will still overpower ai

mauresmo def serna 3-6, 6-4, 6-4

mauresmo has not been playing that well in the matches i have seen her this week and i think serna is going to give her some trouble, and perhaps even continue amelie's nightmare at RG

schnyder def henin 6-3, 1-6, 7-5

the score is much more likely to be 6-2, 6-4 to hein, with schnyder wasting about 10 games at 0-30 or 30-0. although i know i have am heavily bias, i give patty i better shot in this match than in berlin, because she played really well against daniilidou in the last round and i think she has been building up to RG all year.

rubin def mandula 6-4, 6-4

i haven't seen mandula play this week so i can't really know, but i think chanda will turn up to this match and take it out. it could be close though

venus def zvonareva 6-3, 6-4

vera is not ready to win this watch IMO. venus played very well against silvia and even if vera gets in a winning position i do not think she will have the nerve to close it out. i see vera crying in this match

capriati def petrova 7-5, 6-3

capriati has looked good this week, so has petrova. this definitely could be an upset and i having feeling it will fizzle into little more than tough match for capriati.

davenport def martinez 6-3, 6-3

neither player has really been playing that well in their opening matches. i say davenport will win in straight sets, with a lot of tight games though

clijsters def maleeva 6-1, 6-3

clijsters is far too strong. maggie struggled past grande, clay is not her surface, and will be lucky to finish with a respectable scoreline.

I like Vera Zvonareva, but honestly I think people are giving her too much credit. She has nothing to really hurt Venus. She is still a 22nd ranked player who is inconsistent. I don't understand how she can be thought to be stable enough to defeat Venus. Venus is not so easily defeated. The players in the top ten save for Serena can't beat her, so what does Zvonareva have that they don't. Think it through people.

Almost everyone is counting out Lindsay, but they never ever had any enough good reasons for conchita to beat Lindsay. The last time conchita beat her was when Lindsay is not top player yet. Lindsay is still a top 6 and won the last 5 times they played.

BTW: guys, plz give Ai some credit!!!! I do think she'll put up a credible fight against Serena - she did well against Shaugnessy (6-4, 6-1) and not to mention, she's probably playing her best tennis now!!!

OTOH: She DID lose 6-3, 6-2 to Kim in Rome....

And Kim is probably the best pick for RG champion this year. She's playing so much better. I think Justine will probably be the biggest threat to Kim though (though, I really want Serena to kick Justine's ass - 6-0, 6-0 sounds nice).
