against Jidkova and Morigami. Martina/Sveta have just taken the second set in a tiebreak (8-6).

Hope someone else is here reading this cuz typing and talking makes it less nerve-wracking for me!

Oh dear, I see that they have just suspended play for the day. Now I have to wait under *tomorrow* and get all nervous again!

Zummi, or anyone, come talk to me tomorrow, OK?

I'm not so optimistic/pessimistic as you, Eggy! *LOL* But I think it will be a *great* last set. I like Alina/Akiko also as they were almost the "stars" of Amelia Island this year, as they graciously did a little exhibition with two local junior players here.

I just hope if it is as good as I think it will be, US tv will show a bit of it!

Hopefully the Russian/American team will triumph! I am surprised to see you rooting against svetlana, TBE. You really don't like Martina, do you?

I think it was just one match point when Sveta served down 3-5.

Jidkova/Morigami were up 5-3 in the tie-break, just two points from winning. Martina & Sveta were very lucky to win, I think.

Don't know about tomorrow, but the best of luck to Martina & Sveta. It will be a very difficult set and Jidkova/Morigami will have to be the favorites given how back-and-forth the match was.

I think Martina will be HOT for winning it.

It might be that they weren´t so much into the match that late a day and that if playing earlier and being under pressure, they´ll win it.

Apart from the Kuerten match, this match isn´t on the schedule for today. Is that true ???

I don´t think so because they MUST finish Guga for the 4 remaining 4th round matches played tomorrow

So both matches aren´t on the 3 show courts then right and should be placed somewhere else later ?

Yes, where is this match?

ChrisGermany
Jun 1st, 2003, 10:38 AM
There´s a mixed match for Martina as a fifth match on that court and the other courts full of junior matches. I doubt they´d have a problem finishing that match tomorrow but what speaks against that is the problem with the Guga-match

I think they could easily replace that mixed match by the doubles and the Guga-set could be on one of the 3 main courts - best on the court where all 4 other matches are finished the earliest

Chanda and Petra are about to start on Court 1, Martina & Sveta follow that match :)

Alina/Akiko...totally choked...they wasted so many opportunities yesterday...they served for the match twice...plus they had a MP and they were up 5-3 in the TB...and several times they were only two points away...

That always happens when a match restarts. It usually goes away as soon as it starts.

...where they'll be up against an in-form Chanda and an out-of-form Dani (who is getting more confident playing with Chanda). I think this will be a good game but Sveta and Martina struggled to beat some fairly ordinary opponents, in fact they nearly lost it in the 2nd, so I can see Dani and Chanda winning this is three.

Let's hope for a good game whatever!! :bounce:

I *told* you this would be a great match (*LOL*) and I really think it was! I disgree strongly that Alina/Akiko are "fairly ordinary opponents" -- I tell you, at Amelia Island they went far and impressed me as a good team. But I do agree it will be tough agaonst Chanda and Daniela (*unless* Daniela plays like she played her only doubles match as the US Open last year, where she virtually missed every shot -- and hse was in much better shape then!)

I'll just second your hope for a good match! :)

Hi Marsha :wavey:

Well, it sounds like we got a good match :D . Really close and a tough struggle but my girls got there in the end 6-4 3-6 7-5. Phew!! :D :D

Well I can't be *too-too* sad to see Chanda/Daniela win -- now I would love them to actually take the title (them or Vivi/Poli) -- with Lindsay having to withdraw, these two teams are the best remaining, IMHO! :)

That was such a great match! (the Morigami/Jidkova one) I was there on both days, and the second set was so dramatic. It was 9pm, there was an angry sky of thunder and lightning and Martina and sveta had looked well beaten. It was a great atmosphere as there were only about 50 of us in the stadium, all stalwart Martina and Sveta fans ;) Their opponents were two points away from the match on several occasions, but somehow you knew that S&M were always going to pull it off.

Pity about the close loss to Hantuchova and Rubin, but you know that Martina is just itching to get on to the grass :)
